Basketball - Club/CountriesHouston Rocket:
Houston Rocket is a professional basketball team in Texas. It is in western group in the NBA. The team was born in 1967, in San Diego. After 4 years, the team moved to Houston.
The beginning of Rocket wasn’t smooth, they lost St. louis Hawks just by 1 point. the starter of Rocket in that game was John Block(C), Don Kojis(PF), Jonny Green(SF), Mcglockin(SG) and John Barnhill. After Houston moved to Houston, Wayne Duddleston and Billy Goldberg bought Houston Rocket. But people didn’t come to watch Rocket playing game a lot. Houston likes football more. But Rocket was getting better and better. In 1976~1977 season, Moses Malone came to Rocket and they won 49 games and lose only 33 games. They won the champion in the western part. But unfortunately, Sixers have beaten Rocket. Rocket have got the first champion in 1994. Rocket beaten Orlando Magic 4:0. In 2000, there is a brand new Rocket team. Moses Malone is gone, and every member in Rocket team is almost changed. After 2 years later, Yao Ming came to Rocket. Rocket have changed, and they were ready to have a big fight. In the season of 07~08, Rocket have create the second best record in the league, the best in the Rocket history, They win 22 games in the roll, just before Lakers. After 2 years, since McGrady got injury and Artest had gone to Lakers, Rocket have never played such a good record.

•Give the definition for the following 11 terms:
Rotation
You rotate in a clockwise direction one position every time you get the ball to serve.
Although, once you get better and have a specified position, rotation gets more complicated so that
players play their position.
Setter
Similar to Point guard in basketball, quarterback in football. She/he is in charge of the
offense. She/he decides who should get the ball and when. It doesn't matter how good a team's
hitters are if it doesn't have a setter that can consistently deliver a good ball to hit. The setter is
a very important position in volleyball.
Spike
It is a skill of offending. in volleyball, a spike shot is a shot performed in order for the
ball to travel faster and to also make it harder for opponents to defend the shot.
Dig
A dig is a way of passing the volleyball back from a starting down low position - "digging"
under the ball - and the ball is either passed or spiked back. It is most often used to prevent
someone's spike from hitting the ground.
Ace
An ace is when Team 1 serves the ball and Team 2 is unable to return it. It hits the floor
without anyone on Team 2 touching it.
Kill
Kill is a force of hit that makes the return impossible.
Double Hit
when one player touches the ball two times in a row. a double is also called when a player
sets the ball and their hands are uneven.
Libero
The libero is a player specialized in defensive skills: they must wear a contrasting jersey
color from their teammates and cannot block or attack the ball when it is entirely above net
height. When the ball is not in play, the libero can replace any back-row player, without prior
notice to the officials. His or her replacements also do not count against the substitution limit each
team is allowed per set, although NCAA rules only allow the libero to be replaced by the player
whom she/he replaced.
Pass
There are only 2 passes in a row, after 2 passes, you have to hit the ball over the net.
Set
A ways of passing.
Side out
It is regular term for old v-ball rule when you win on other team's serving game to
take back the serving rights in order to win points.(on old rule, you don't get points on side-
out, but only on your serving game) Now, Side-out becomes a history, but people may still
apply it to a receiving game.
•Using diagrams explain how to do the following skills
Serve(overhand)
When you are serving overhand. You should stand straight first. Then toss the ball up(a
little forward), step your left foot forward, and use your palm to hit the ball.
Dig
When you are digging, your arms should be absolutely straight and you should put your arms
together. The ball must be hitten to your arms, not hands. your hands should be like this:
Set
Setting is a way of passing
the ball, like digging. When
you set, your wrists must be
relaxed. When the ball touch
your hands, ur hands recoil
and your arms push the ball
up.
Spike
spike is when you offending, you
smash the ball over the net. You
spike often after someone pass to you. When the ball is falling down, you jump as high is you can
and us your arm’s power to smash it over the net.
•What is the height of the net for men and women? (metric – in metres)
for womens volleyball net: 2.24 m
For mens volleyball net: 2.43m
