ADVANCED GEOMODELLING 20 – 22 September 2016 | Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Course Overview Geomodelling is the corner stone between geological concepts underlying reservoir development and numerical solutions attempting to represent the same reservoir. With the progress made in computing capabilities, highly demanding tasks such as 3D reservoir visualization, property prediction and dynamic simulation became routine and occupy most of the daily duty of the reservoir geologist/engineer. The Advance Geomodel Building course explores the more advanced Geomodelling techniques by going through an advanced Geomodelling workflow for supporting a dynamic simulation. Under its current format, the Advance Geomodel Building course is tailored for a Petrel Geomodelling platform.

Why should you attend This course describes all the steps for the advance geomodelling workflow used to support dynamic reservoir simulation of a field. Attendees of the Advance Geomodel Building course, will have the chance to go through a full Geomodelling cycle and replicate the main elements of the process step by step with a strong emphasize on best practices and most common pitfalls.

Who should attend Development Geoscientists or Geomodellers who wish to bring their Geomodelling skills to the next level. Experienced staffs who wish to acquire or consolidate their geomodelling skills are encouraged to participate What will you learn? Specific topics that will be discussed include the following:

- Type of data and other subsurface disciplines integration needed to develop the understanding of the field - Input data import and conditioning - Guidelines to build an effective structural model - The use of Property modelling to populate the geomodel away from Well control - Volumetrics calculation - Exporting the geomodel to the dynamic simulation platform and getting feedbacks

About Your Expert Trainer Raffik Lazar has a Master Degree in Geology majoring in carbonate sedimentology and geomodelling from Université de Provence, Marseille, France. Aside of a short term assignment with Geopetrol, the smallest French O&G operator in France, building their first geomodel ever, Raffik spent his remaining time

with Shell International Exploration and Production and held several positions:

- Carbonate Geoscientist in the Carbonate Research Team, in Rijswijk, The Netherlands

- Field Engineer, seconded by Shell to Schlumberger to gain drilling operation exposure in Oman and Offshore Iran

- Development Geologist in the Onshore Asset Team in the NAM (JV 50% Shell, 50% Exxon) in Assen, The Netherlands

- Senior Development Geologist in the Sarawak Asset Team in Shell Malaysia Exploration & Production, Miri, Malaysia

Across his career, Raffik has developed a strong passion for Geomodelling, focusing on how to add value during the development phase of a field by using the geomodelling tool. In every position he has held, Raffik has always been the “go-to” person for geomodelling related inquiries for his colleagues. Recently, his apparition at the EAGE and the APGCE conferences increased the recognition from his industry peers. Logically, he has been designated as member of the technical committee for the third EAGE Integrated Reservoir Modelling conference, in Kuala Lumpur, in December 2016. Raffik has modelled several tens of fields ranging from Carbonates to Clastics depositional environments, from pre-exploration to very mature fields and from single-well development to giant fields for both Oil and Gas reservoirs. Raffik has been directly involved in drilling operations as wellsite and office based geologist for several wells drilling through various type of reservoirs in Europe, the Middle East and South East Asia. His activities were involving well planning (well deployment, well design strategy, depth prognosis, PPP), drilling monitoring (picking section / well TD, active geosteering in the reservoir) and post drilling activities (post drilling report, post drilling model update, pre drill / post drill comparison, communication with stakeholders). Raffik has a proven track record as successful Coach / Mentor via his supervision and guidance of several young graduates and interns. His interpersonal skills and passion for sharing with younger staffs have been recognized by his peers in all the locations he worked. Throughout the years and thanks to his determination and fighting spirit, Raffik has been known as the person who makes the impossible possible. It is with this mindset that he co-founded GeomodL. He joined Shell as development geologist and worked in several locations around the world (Netherlands, Oman, Iran, Malaysia). In every location he worked, his passion, skills and enthusiasm for geomodelling made him the “go-to” person for all geomodelling related matters. He is currently the Founder, Managing Director for GeomodL, focused on Reservoir Modelling.
