!!!Welcome to Moss! !On behalf of Østfold County Council, Moss Municipality and Barnas Fredsverden (Children Peace World), it is my pleasure to welcome you to the International Youth Seminar Youth & Action organised in the frame of the 200th celebration of the Norwegian Constitution

This year, we are celebrating the Norwegian Constitution with a lot of different events and the youth seminar is the main arrangement in Østfold County Council.

The seminar program is founded on the core values of the celebration, based on the fundamental characteristics of life and peace between countries, comprising intercultural communication and dialogue.

We have invited youth from Norway and from other parts of the world, we have sent a special invitation for participation from the sister-cities of the municipalities in Østfold. Many thanks to all for taking interest and participating in our seminar. I would also like to express my gratitude to the organisations and the volunteers who are involved in the realisation of the seminar and to the sponsors, for their continuous support and commitment to this big event.

I hope that you will enjoy the speeches, the workshops, and all the cultural activities, in our city, Moss, and in the other places you will visit. It is my sincere wish that this seminar will give new inspiration and knowledge and will contribute for further work within the values of the anniversary and the seminar - peace, freedom and democracy.

We all want to live in peace and harmony and most of us are making continuous efforts in this direction, every one in accordance with our own understanding and view about life, happiness, prosperity and relationships with other human beings and also with nature. Unfortunately, every day, we are facing conflicts - as individuals, in our family, in our friendships, in our school, in our job, and at all levels in our society. Most conflicts are stemmed from differences in views and values but if you ask people what their future looks like, what they really want, you would be surprised to see how similar the aspirations are. To ask the simple question “what do you really want?” to someone who is bullying or seeks for quarrel, is often the first step towards peace, at least towards dialogue. To share ideas and thoughts with the others is basic - we all know that - but sometimes to be open, to see and to listen is just enough.

But do we really see one another? Do we really listen to each other?

2014 is a very special year for Norway, the whole nation celebrating the 200th anniversary of its constitution and 200 years of peace. As the country resonates with prestigious commemorations throughout the year, Moss stands at the centre of a series of very diverse and eclectic events among which our International Peace Seminar.

For its third edition, YOUTH & ACTION: TOWARDS A NEW GENERATION FOR PEACE hopes to improve cooperation and mutual understanding; that together we can take a step further to solving intricate daily struggles and give some keys to be able to find together alternative ways to spread goodwill, energy and joy around the world. Almost 200 youth, aged 13 to 18 years, coming from different parts of the world (Cuba, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Israel/Palestine, Guatemala, Norway, Russia, Sweden, South Africa, Tanzania, USA and many other countries) will spend 5 days around those topics and will meet/discuss/exchange and play around peace, conflict resolution and dialogue.

The programme has been designed around four distinguished, engaged and inspiring personalities who have accepted our invitation to come and share their vision and their work. HRH Crown Prince Haakon, Professor Johan Galtung, Jeremy Gilley and Marco Elsafadi have traveled the world, and their continuous efforts are helping create and sustain ideas and actions for a better world.

We have also invited several organisations such as Global Dignity, Peace One Day, Crossing Borders, Norwegian Refugee Council, Play for Peace, Sadaka Reut, hello!earth, Sabona, and the Nansen Center for Dialogue and Peace that will propose playful, interesting and original workshops and interventions, mainly using experiential (non-formal learning) techniques. We really look forward to their sessions and we are thankful for the time and work they have put into our project during the long months of preparation.

Last but not least, as you will read in this brochure, we are organising a lot of cultural and social events; like for example the concert of the excellent Norwegian group Disaster of the Universe, the exhibition of New faces of Europe, the street party, the tour of 3 cities of our region, the Peace Speech and a lot of other fun activities which we believe strengthen the process of learning and makes the programme come together.

Prof. Johan Galtung (born 24 October 1930) is a Norwegian sociologist, mathematician and the founder of the discipline of peace and conflict studies. He is the founder of the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo (1959) - the world´s first academic research centre focused on peace studies - as well as the influential Journal of Peace Research (1964). He has helped found dozens of other peace centres and has served as a professor for peace studies at universities all over the world. He has developed several influential theories, such as the distinction between positive and negative peace, structural violence, theories on conflict and conflict resolution, the concept of peace-building, the structural theory of imperialism, and many other theories.

Prof. Johan Galtung will open the seminar with historian Truls Øra on Wednesday 13th August from 10.00 to 11.00. After the speech, the participants of the seminar will be able to debate with both our guests.

Jeremy Gilley is a social entrepreneur, filmmaker, actor and businessman. Following an acting career, Jeremy began making his own films before founding the non-profit film project Peace One Day in 1999. The film presented the world with Jeremy´s efforts to establish a day of global ceasefire and non-violence every year. Subsequent to his campaign, United Nations states unanimously adopted a general assembly resolution in 2001 that 21st September would be from then on, the International Day of Peace. Jeremy is undertaking campaigns all over the world, bringing substantial responses.

Jeremy Gilley is invited as one of the special guests on stage with HRH Crown Prince Haakon holding the annual “peace speech” at 16.30. Jeremy will present Peace One Day and his current actions to the participants of the seminar on Thursday 14th August from 18.30 to 19.30. (to be confirmed)

After his brilliant opening speech in 2013 about confidence and how important it is to give people a second chance, Marco Elsafadi is back to our Peace Seminar as the main facilitator of the Global Dignity Day. Marco (1976) is a Palestinian refugee that came to Norway with his family in 1987. He is a basketball player at the top level and has represented the Norwegian national team for 12 years. In 1993, he began his commitment to children and young people working with disadvantaged youth, drop-outs and violence. In 2014, he has won Mesternes Mester, an adventure game TV programme based on sports.

Marco Elsafadi will hold his speech on Thursday 14th August at 12.00 in Kirkeparken Vgs.

At 12.30, Marco will be the main facilitator for Global Dignity Day.

HRH Prince Haakon holds a BA in political science from University of California at Berkeley (1999) and was awarded an MA in development studies, specializing in international trade and Africa from the London School of Economics and Political Science (2003). The same year, he was appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and in 2006, HRH founded the Global Dignity initiative with two other Youth Global Leaders members. He is a very engaged man who undertakes a broad range of official and charity engagements all over the world. He will host the Global Dignity Day event on Thursday 14th August 2014 from 12.30 to 14.30.

Sarah Camille Ramin Osmundsen is slam poet, actor and singer. In 2011, Sarah Camille won the Norwegian championship of slam poetry. Slam is a relatively new artistic form, which has its origin from the rap culture. It enables to share personal views on society with rhyme and rhythm, and has recently found grand popularity as a form of self-expression among many teenagers. !She will perform during the opening ceremony on Tuesday 12th august at 21.00

Ingri Guren was born on 20 July 1988. She lives on a farm in Rygge, Østfold. She is an economist and works in a hydropower company in Oslo. She is educated as a singer and choir conductor. She enjoys playing the norwegian fiddle, a traditional stringed instrument very similar to the violin, though with eight or nine strings (rather than four as on a standard violin) and a thinner wood, it provides a pleasant haunting, echo-like sound. !Ingri will be the MC (Master of Ceremony) presenting the guests, speakers and sessions in the programme of the seminar. She will host the official opening ceremony on Tuesday 12th August at 21.00 and will play some nice tunes on her fiddle too!

Trond Gundersen is a percussion artist, he has been playing drums and percussion for over 30 years. He is currently teaching drums and percussion classes at Kulturskole in Moss/Rygge/Våler and in Greåker School and gives concerts in many different places, cafes, festivals and events. !Trond will perform with his trio called Slagverktrio during the opening ceremony on Tuesday 12th august at 21.00.

!!!!!!!!!Ice-breaker - workshop led by Crossing Borders Common session for all the participants !

Tuesday 12 August 2014, from 16.30 to 18.30 (Jeløy Folkeshøyskole, Gymsal) !As an introduction to the peace seminar, the participants will work to design a global peace village to serve as a model for a globalised world we wish to live in. !The aim of this group exercise is to enable us to reflect, discuss, and exchange ideas, better practices and to combine our visions in designing a truly global village in which the culture of peaceful coexistence and fair sharing of the global space and resources prevail. In this village, unity in humanity and cultural diversity are the rules. !In each group the participants will discuss the concept, the needs and pre-conditions for building a truly global village where the inhabitants live on equal terms and opportunities. Then design a global peace village with all the necessary environmental, cultural, religious, social, political, economic, financial and educational facilities placed in the right places for the right purpose. !The participants will have an area of 25 square kilometre piece of land with a river flowing through from the South to the North. There is enough rain and the land is fertile. The climate is temperate with an average of 25 degree Celsius in the summer and 15 degree Celsius in the winter. There is plenty of sun and sufficient wind. There is small forest in the southern part of the territory and some hills in the North. This piece of land is rich in strategic mineral resources such as oil, gas, uranium. The livestock resource consists mainly of dairy and wild animals. The population is 500 inhabitants; some are Muslims, Jewish, Christians, Hindus and Buddhist, while the remaining cultural groups practice indigenous beliefs. Each cultural group has its own distinguished language and tradition. !When designing the village the participants will have make sure also to decide on national language(s), national song, flag, education system, political system, form of governance, budget allocation between social, education and defence sectors in terms of percentage, national religion, voting rights with regards to gender, age and minorities, holidays… !At the end of the workshop, the group will present their village in the form of a bazaar where the audience will be able to go around visiting the different stands of the different peace village models. !For this workshop, we are very thankful to borrow free legos from Lego Norge.

!!!!Multicultural Capacity and Social Capital: The Heritage from 1814 !

Wednesday 13 August 2014, from 10.00 to 12.00 (Jeløy Folkeshøyskole) !The historian Truls Øhra will present the historical mix of culture, religion and entrepreneurship that laid the ground for the events in Moss - and Norway in 1814. His thorough research has uncovered many intriguing details connected to happenings in and around Moss. Truls Øhra's focus is to find how we can capture what really happened - to see how we can learn from history and bring the best of the ideas to life in the cultural and geographical settings we as individuals are part of today. !Professor Johan Galtung will follow up with placing Norway's "1814" in an international setting. Napoleon - England - Russia; where Denmark/Norway took on Napoleon, while Sweden went for Russia. How the happenings in 1812 paved the way for 1814, and the "Miracle at Eidsvold" as domestic politics geniality and foreign policy shut out. Johan Galtung will also elaborate on the importance of the "Moss Peace Treaty" - how could it come about, and what is in it for us today?

!Peace One Day !

Thursday 14 August 2014, in the evening - time to be confirmed (Jeløy Folkeshøyskole) !Peace One Day, as an organisation, operates across music and film, dance, sports and education, and embraces the evolving technologies specially with internet. Millions of people from all over the World have taken part in Peace Day since it was established in 2001, and areas of conflict have now been accessible to organisations looking to carry out important work for the community. !Peace One Day ambassador, Jude Law, and Jeremy Gilley lead a campaign that has resulted in 4.5 million Afghan children receiving polio vaccinations who would otherwise have been inaccessible. Peace One Day’s main objective is to create global unity and cooperation to make Peace Day self-sustaining; a notion that has not been attempted nor even openly contemplated before. Peace Day 2011 saw Jeremy Gilley launch the Global Truce campaign – an effort to assemble the largest number of individuals, from across the World, in the name of peace with the view to measure the reduction in World violence. Building a series of networks and enabling organisations to show off and be inspired by each other’s Peace Day plans, are part of the concept. Jeremy is also developing methods to measure how successful his campaign is each year and what can be done to ensure it does better the next. !Peace One Day and Jeremy’s role within it is all about raising awareness of Peace Day. This includes collaborating with the relevant people, companies and charities and stems out to making globally-viewed documentaries, as well as organising concerts attended by some of the biggest names in music. !!Global Dignity Day !

Thursday 14 August 2014, from 12.30 to 15.00 (Kirkeparken Vgs, Moss) !The mission of Global Dignity is to implement the universal right of every human being to lead a dignified life. We all have the ability to increase the dignity of others and thus we increase our own dignity. The dignity approach works on all levels: it works for children and for adults, it works for men and for women, and it works on the micro and macro level. !Global Dignity is an autonomous non-profit, non-criticism and non-partisan initiative. Global Dignity wishes to be an inspiration-based project: commending and encouraging best practice and dignity-centered leadership. Global Dignity is the brainchild of three friends, concerned global citizens who met as Young Global Leaders at the World Economic Forum: HRH Crown Prince Haakon (Norway), Professor Pekka Himanen (Finland) and founder of Operation HOPE, John Hope Bryant (United States). The three friends realised that the one thing that everyone in the world could agree on, irrespective of their differences is: we all want our Dignity to be recognised. Dignity is the very foundation of our humanity. Dignity is universal. Dignity is also the source of human rights. !The co-founders created Global Dignity in 2006. Since then they have worked with many Young Global Leaders and other partners in over 40 countries, hosting what are known as Dignity Days. This involves visiting local schools and communities around the world and teaching a "course in dignity" to youth. !Marco Elsafadi will be the main facilitator of our Global Dignity day. He will be helped by 10 other facilitators/volunteers recruited locally by Barnas Fredsverden. Barnas Fredsverden is Global Dignity´s coordinator for the region of Østfold.

Our Real and Dream Worlds !In order to share experiences about our respective parts of the world we live in, this workshop will do the following exercise. First, they will be a division into groups. Each group will get a wall or a long roll of poster paper. In silence with inspiring music, each

group draws/paint on the first section of the wall/poster all the things they value, appreciate, and are happy about and satisfied with, in the world they live in today.

Then, each group draws on the second section of the wall/poster all the things they hate, not happy with, angry or worried about in the world they live in. Finally, each group draws on the last section of the wall/post their dreams, hopes and wishes for the world they wish to live in and leave behind for the next generations.

Garba Diallo !“Hello, I am Garba Diallo. Although I was born in Mauritania and now a Danish citizen, I feel more of a global citizen than belonging to a particular country. I grew into being a global citizen thanks to 25-year experience as educator, writer and lecturer on global issues of peace, sustainability and culture sensitive media. As part of my global activities, I have visited and given lectures at various universities across Europe, Africa, China, Japan and Brazil. Since coming to Denmark 20 years ago as education expert, I have been teaching global studies at the International People’s College and Krogerup Hojskole. Inspired by the dialogue based on non-formal education system of the folk hojskole, I founded Crossing Borders NGO, whose mission is to create space for dialogue and to provide enabling skills to youth, educators and media workers from around the globe. In terms of method, Crossing Borders uses interactive and participatory teaching and learning activities comprising role-plays, simulations, forum theatre and other art forms, as well as video storytelling. In sum, the method I use consists of expert inputs and facilitation, open structured dialogue, and group work leading to concrete output for which the participants have ownership of and responsibility. I look very much forward to working with you and learning from your experiences and visions for a better world for all. !Crossing Borders (CB) is a non-profit, non.governmental civil society organisation whose mission is to create impartial dialogue space and to provide enabling capacity building for youth, media workers and educators to participate actively in the development processes of their societies. The overall goal of CB is to increase the possibilities for world peace and international understanding through learning to live together on equal terms. Crossing Borders started as a project in 1999 in Denmark in support of meaningful dialogue between the conflict parties in the Middle East. In response to increased activities and demands for the CB concept and educational activities, it was transformed, in 2004, into an international civil society organisation with activities in Denmark and abroad.

workshops Barnas Fredsverden has invited 7 partner-organisations, working in the field of peace and conflict resolution to propose and design 7 different workshops for the participants of our seminar. They have been asked to use different methods & tools that will allow the youth to learn and experience what stands behind the concept of "intercultural communication" and how they can open up for dialogue. The duration for the workshops is set to 3 hours - with a brake. !The participants will be able to choose freely the workshop they prefer to attend based on this information that has already been shared through our webpage and our Facebook group page as well. The registration will be based on the first-come, first-served principle. Upon arrival the participants will be able to register on a white board placed in the registration area of the campus. !Here you will find the presentations describing the workshop, the facilitator, and the organisation. This information has been sent by the facilitators themselves. On the right side, you will find a red box indicating the age group the workshop addresses preferably; the blue box if it is an indoor or outdoor activity; the green box indicates how many participants can be part of the described workshop - taking in consideration that the work is sometimes better delivered with less participants and some other times it is required for more. !When all the sessions are finished, Christiane Seehausen our facilitator from Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue will gather all the teams and open up for a common session debriefing and reporting what has been experienced and get to know how the others have worked and how they felt.

!Beyond Intercultural Communication: Experiencing Intercultural Connection !

Play for Peace workshops are interactive, fun and can be life changing. All of the workshops are based Kolb’s Experiential Cycle, so while concepts and theory will be

introduced, the focus will be practice and reflection with the group leading to personal insights and interpersonal connections. In this workshop, Play for Peace will approach the development of effective Intercultural Communication through 3 points: knowledge, attitude and ability. Through a series of activities and experiences, ways to increase cultural knowledge will be explored, there will be reflection on beliefs and reactions to others through Miguel Ruiz “Four Agreements” and effective verbal and non-verbal communication tips and suggestions will be shared. !! !

Andres Armas & Sarah Gough!Andres Armas, Play for Peace Certified Trainer, has collaborated with youth leadership and educational projects in Guatemala for over 14 years. He is a training and team building consultant for universities, International Schools, businesses and organizations including PeaceCorps, University of San Carlos and Childfund International. He is committed to creating and maintaining peace in his conflict ridden country through strengthening local capacity for leadership, violence prevention, development and peace. Sarah Gough, MSW, is Play for Peace's Director enjoying over 20 years field work with youth in diverse settings. Involved with Play for Peace since 2001, Sarah co-authored “Peace circles” (2013) and has facilitated training and workshops in experiential peace education around the world. Through Sarah’s leadership Play for Peace has grown to include thousands of children, youth and adults in over 20 countries. !Play for Peace® is a dynamic global learning community dedicated to connecting children, youth and organisations from communities in conflict through cooperative play to create laughter compassion and peace. Play for Peace methodology is straightforward and effective; they train youth around the world to lead peace education and community wide activities that are cooperative, inclusive, caring and fun. !

!Prejudices & Assumptions !In this workshop, we will encourage the participants to think about their way of communicating with others. Prejudices and assumptions of those they define as

different from themselves will be challenged. Based on their communicative experiences, the participants will get the opportunity to work on new ways of

communication with others and reflect about how values and attitudes are influencing their communicative behaviour. The workshop will be interactive and based on dialogue.  !

Christiane Seehausen !Christiane Seehausen works as a senior adviser at the Nansen Centre for Peace and Dialogue. Her main responsibility in the centre is the training of dialogue workers and keeping  workshops in communication and conflict management. She is engaged in projects in Kenya, Somalia, Iraqi Kurdistan and in different countries in Europe. Beside of that she has started up dialogue groups in the multi cultural communities in Norway. She is also lecturing about her work for different institutions in Norway and other European countries.  !Nansen Center for Peace and Dialogue is an organization using dialogue to build bridges in divided communities. With communities we mean all kind of groups of people like a local community in a post conflict area, a school in the multi-cultural Norway, a women centre in Iraq Kurdistan, all these big or small communities, where people do not interact with each other, because of uncertainty and fear created by assumptions and prejudices. Nansen Centre for Peace and Dialogue tries to bring these people together, creating spaces where they can learn to talk to the   "others" in a more open way.  On the basis of these experiences, NCPD also trains different groups of people in dialogue, communication and conflict management. Through these training's NCPD wants to spread knowledge to others who can benefit from it.  !!!!!!

“HOW COME WE PLAY WAR AND NOT PEACE?” TOO FEW ROLE MODELS.” ― BILL WATTERSON

! !The Local Ministry of HappinessWhat if happiness was taken into account as an important factor to be cultivated and measured success upon in our society? Join an exploration into the complexity

of questioning what really makes us happy and looking at personal, social and political dimensions of cultivating happiness as a society.

The workshop includes creative explorations to do with governance, self-organisation and reflection on values. We will involve ourselves in brainstorm exercises, dialogue groups and participatory games .This results in the production of voting papers with features of possible candidates for a ministry of happiness, concluding with The First Assembly for the Local Ministry of Happiness. Included in the process is information on The Ministry of Happiness in Buthan and the UN Happiness report among others. !

Vera Maeder !Vera is a theatre director, choreographer, performer and trainer, with a practice in the cross-field of performance / dance, theatre, installation and visual arts. She is teaching in interdisciplinary contexts Srishti School of Arts and Design, Bangalore, India or the Arts Academy Copenhagen, and in the field of intercultural understanding and empowerment through the arts; past projects among other in Palestine (UNESCO project), Nepal and the Philippines. The workshops she runs are for youth, adults or kids. They offer a space for embodied knowledge to unfold, and create a playful testing ground for re-evaluating complex realities and issues - be it global, social or personal ones. Vera has recently been working on a publication on the approach of hello!earth, which will be released in autumn 2014.

There will be one more facilitator joining for this workshop.

hello!earth creates cross-disciplinary, participatory art projects. These include interventions in public spaces, social art projects, participatory walks and travels, among other. All works to sense and do, rather then to sit and see and with the embodied experience of the participant as the centre of the work. Based on their specific approach “new adventures“ which points at shifting our habitual perception, they created numerous works in collaboration with leading art institutions, both in Denmark and internationally in India, Brazil, Jerusalem and several places in Europe. Community participation and workshops form part of their artistic projects and they run activities and taught in very different cultural and social contexts. The workshops offered build on the knowledge of their artistic practice developed over time, and each is based on a larger artistic project.

A Friendship Experiment !

This workshop is based on an experiment: a friendship experiment composed of games likes the "playful names round", the "broken phone", the “help me help you” game and the "silent communication". !

“My name is Ahmad Amer, I'm a Palestinian with an Israeli citizenship, I'm originally from Kufur Qasem, a small town in the heart of Palestine (now Israel) and currently residing in Tel Aviv. I'm a medical student in my 5th year hoping to be a paediatrician one day. I encountered Sadaka Reut for the first time in my 2nd year in the University where I participated in a bi-national group consisting of my classmates, there I started creating and forming my political and social views relating historical justice (or the lack of it), solidarity and the importance of dialogue. 3 years later I'm still with Sadaka Reut, but now as a facilitator working in my home town of Kufur Qasem, there I work with a wonderful, all able youth group for the second year now. I fell in love with working with youth and with the kids themselves, and for me it was a life changing experience. !Sadaka-Reut - Arab-Jewish Youth Partnership educates and empowers Jewish and Palestinian Israeli youth and university students to pursue social and political change through bi-national partnership. Founded in 1983 by a group of Jewish and Palestinian Israeli university students who shared the vision of a better future for both communities, we firmly believe that the only way to confront and overcome the antagonism between Jewish and Palestinian citizens of Israel is by promoting joint partnership models for change. Our grassroots dialogue and leadership development programs seek to address the deep-seated injustices caused by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and create a new generation of young activists promoting a shared society based on equality, solidarity, and justice !!!

Synøve Faldalen !“Hi - Sabona! I am Synøve, a pedagogue by profession, and what really inspires me is to develop everyday tools to understand what happens between people - how to solve conflicts, and how to create good relations. The tools we will work with are based on a UN manual for Peace Workers. Why not get familiar with the top notch theories that will last a life time! And now I am looking forward to work with you - to see what we can create together, and to learn what you can take away to enhance your life! !Sabona means "Hi - I see you - I acknowledge your existence". Originally from the Zulu culture - an everyday greeting in many African countries. We chose Sabona as name for the toolkit because it symbolised the basic attitude: "I see you - and I am willing to see not only what you do - but seek for the goal behind the behaviour". The Sabona team has specialised in creating tools and recipes to analyse, understand and solve conflicts. We have also found that the same elements are there to build friendship. Everyone will become part of a conflict from time to time. It is frustrating and sometimes bring up anger and even hatred. If you do not know how to handle the situation - it is more likely to turn to violence. Better know what to do! ! !

Humanitarian Worker for A Day !In this workshop the participants will be encouraged to be humanitarian workers for a day. They are part of the Emergency Standby Force of a humanitarian organisation and will be sent to an unknown culture. Through this, the

participants would be exposed to circumstances and challenges faced by humanitarian workers, as well as by the people they are seeking to serve. The youth

will get challenging exercises. The workshop will be interactive and based on dialogue. !

Mette Røkke & Marit Elverland !Mette Røkke is a social worker with an M. Phil in Peace and conflict transformation. She has a long work experience with humanitarian work in Asia, Middle East, Africa and Latin America. For NRC she has worked with UNICEF on how to include the most vulnerable children in schools, health and emergency programmes. She is currently working with multicultural artists and culture at the Municipality of Trondheim. !Marit Elverland has done humanitarian and development work, particularly capacity building and project management, after completing a Cand. Polit. in social anthropology. For NRC, she has particularly worked with training on how to manage camps for displaced people. Currently she is working for Red Cross Norway on a project providing conflict resolution skills workshops for local youth. She enjoys facilitating participatory processes. !Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a humanitarian organisation which provides humanitarian assistance, protection and durable solutions to displaced persons in 20 countries worldwide. It has a special focus on children in war and conflicts and providing schools is a priority. It has projects in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and America. In addition NRC has an Emergency Standby Forces -NORCAP- with 850 men and women who are able to leave their homes in 72 hours notice to deploy anywhere in the world to support the United Nations and other international organisations with humanitarian aid and emergency relief operations. !!!!!!!!

!!!!!Signs of Peace !All the Kindergarten of the Municipality of Moss have been invited into a collaborative artistic project raising awareness around the concepts of peace, freedom and democracy. More than 200 children (aged 5) were questioned about their perception of freedom, and through drawings, visualised the elements of life they value the most. Based on a specific design with both technical and practical specificities, the children’s contribution  symbolizes  a fantastic diversity  and a very individual expression. This project has been supported by Dextra Artes and led by Punkt Ø. !The sculpture will be set  in the centre of Moss and will be inaugurated on 14th August 2014.  It will remain there during the whole autumn. !!!Østfold in One Day!Spydeberg, Fredriksten in Halden and Fredrikstad are 3 cities in Østold that have invited all the participants of the Seminar for a special visit. They have planned guided tours, speeches, presentations, fun activities, food, games and cultural events. Buses have been put up to take around all the participants on a real workshop on wheels! !The excursion will take place the whole day of Friday 15th August 2014 from 9.00 to 22.00. !!Street Party 2014 !

Thursday 14 August 2014, from 12.30 to 16.30 ((Moss center) - public event !Every year since 2012, the tradition has it that the youth participating to the peace seminar, the volunteers and the staff co-create a street party at the end of the programme, where everyone goes out in the streets of Moss to share what has been learned, to give back what was given, to organise small workshops (making peace tattoos, braids, or body-painting), to dance, to play different games, to bring joy and positive energy with the local communities and specially the families and the younger children. Don´t miss it ! Music, food, dance and a lot of surprises are expecting you in the street of Moss. !In 2014, the Street Party will be held on 14 August 2014 from 12.30 to 16.30. !!New Faces of Europe !

Thursday 14 August 2014, from 12.30 to 16.30 (Moss center - the lotus tent) - public event !The project New faces of Europe aims to capture bits of life of youth between 13 and 18 years, giving a glimpse of their daily habits, happy or sad thoughts, reflexions and other moments in their life. A survey composed of 20 simple questions (that can be filled online in less than 5 minutes) and a picture of themselve (or a selfie) showing us a piece of paper with a word which they would like to share with the others compose the main pillar of the project. The selfies and the responses coming from Norway, Iceland, Israel, Palestine, Sweden, Iceland, Greece, Bulgaria, Belgium, France, Denmark, Holland, UK, France and many other countries have been collected and digested in an exhibition which will open during the street party on Thursday 14th august in a very special lotus-tent. Thursday 14 August 2014, from 16.30 to 18.00 (Moss Verket) - free public event On 14 August 1814, the Moss Convention is signed in a building known as Konventiongaard. The Moss Convention is a ceasefire agreement that led to peace between the Nordic countries and ensured that the Constitution from Eidsvoll gave Norway its independence (since Norway was in an union with Sweden). That act, signing the Nordic peace, has lasted 200 years. The idea of an armed conflict between Norway, Sweden and Denmark is just completely crazy! North is a peaceful place. !On 14 August 2014, we will all celebrate the Constitution, the Convention of Moss and the Nordic peace. On that special day, HRH Crown Prince Haakon will honour us with his presence, holding the main speech on stage. HRH Crown Prince will be accompanied by artists and other distinguished guests like the Nordic Council President, Mrs Karin Åström from Sweden, the founder of Peace one Day, Jeremy Gilley, the artist Melissa Horn and many others. Some of the youth participating to the seminar will also be present on stage! We are all invited to be part of this very special celebration. !Disaster of the Universe !

DISASTER IN THE UNIVERSE is a new alternative rock band with influences from different continents and cultures. The band has created an exciting sound combining rock, electronica, psychedelia and tropical instruments and rhythms. Though they are Norwegians, they perform their songs in English, French, Portuguese, Spanish and Ronga.
