Slide 6:Union squareThis slide contains a location drawing of Union Square by Veronica Lawlor. It has a sketchy art style, which captures all the details that is required for the artist. It can be used as a quick reference much like a photograph. It would be more personal to the artist since the artist was the one who drew the image. Location drawing is a way for the artist to observe a scene and quickly put information on the page. Much like photography, the aim is to capture a scene or moment that has been observed, but by drawing it, adds a layer of texture to what is captured.

This stage of drawing is used for designing characters and locations, it isalso used to explore different ideas before the final submission. Concept art isessentially a trial and error process. Slide 10: Bart One of the main aspects of character design lies within the idea that a character is represented as a specific shape that would match their personality or trope. In this case I will use the Simpsons characters to illustrate this point, the square is typically used for the basic design for the main protagonist, which is normally symbolising how athletic or strong the character is. The square can be interpreted as a strong solid structure and thus represents the strength of the character.

As an example we have Mr Burns from the Simpsons, as you can see he is clearly the villain of the series, which is represented by his triangular structure. When comparing the triangle to the circle previously mentioned, it is clear how basic shapes are used to show the differences between character designs, with the circle showing a certain gentleness, which is considered as positive and the triangle shows frowning, which is known to be negative.
