BBeing a leader means, aboveall, getting there ahead ofthe others. This is virtually

a rule for Antonio Carraro, thegreat designer name for specialtractors, a top trademark in Italyand on the world scene for com-pact 4WD tractors with enginesranging from 20 to 100 HP. Thesemachines continue to offer end-users the highest levels of perfor-mance and comfort in operationin keeping with the company’sconstant search for a different andunique style. And these end-usershave grown steadily over time innumber as well as type thanks tothe extreme versatility of the trac-tors created by the Campo-darsego manufacturer. The flexi-bility of these machines takesthem beyond the boundary ofspecialized agriculture to makethem suitable for successful usein many other areas, transformingthem into unique machines forground care, that is, the mainte-nance of public green areas andprofessional utilization for sportsfacilities, road maintenance andurban cleaning jobs. These are thequalities which have made it pos-sible for Antonio Carraro to takeover a large number of new nichemarkets. Multifunctional, moreover, has beenthe key word and fundamentalconcept since 1910 when nine-teen-year-old blacksmith GiovanniCarraro, full of imagination, begandesigning and building for the firsttime a multipurpose agriculturalmachine able to plow, seed, har-row and cover simultaneously.This revolutionary prototype con-tained the seeds of a bright futureduring which the smithy was trans-formed into industrial plant for theproduction of seeders and, later,traditional tractors. Well aware of the challenges of thefuture, the company embarked in2003 on a three-year internal re-structurization plan aimed at amore modern and efficient organi-zation. Assisting was PorscheConsulting, one of the world’sleading specializes in corporate re-organization, chosen by MarcelloCarraro, president of the company.Thus, with the help of the Stuttgartexperts, the company’s philosophyand work system were revolution-ized under the heading “kai-zen”,an Eastern term meaning continu-ous small-step improvement ex-tended to all activities.
