Stateoftheart

•  Innovationasresearch=ieldstartedtobeexploredwithworksofJosephSchumpeter(1934)whowasthe=irstonehighlightedtheimportanceofinnovationforeconomicdevelopment.

•  AccordingtoSchumpeter:innovationistreatedasnewcombinationsintheeconomy,includingnewcombinationsofgoods,methods(productiontechnology),markets,suppliersandorganizationandthesourceofcompanies’pro=its.

•  Innovationisverywildlyunderstoodphenomena,f.e.:–  aninteractiveprocesswhichreferstothebehaviourofenterprisesinplanningandimplementingchangestotheiractivities(NauwelaersandWintjes,2002)

–  theintroductionofneweconomicactivity,includingboththeintroductionofinnovationintothemarketplace,aswellasenteringasanewimitativecompetitor(Koellinger,2008)

–  assuccessfulimplementationofcreativeideas,–  Innovationrequiresthedeparturefromexistingtechnologies,practicesandventurebeyondthecurrentstateoftheart(Dess,Lumpkin,2005).
