Pedal Power Workshops Free Cycling Events June & July 2013 Pedal Power runs throughout June and July 2013 at venues across Leeds. They are part of East Street Arts’ trailblazing arts programme ‘Juliana’s Bike’ that includes workshops, exhibitions, games, and a smorgasbord of artistic interventions. Key themes include bicycle fashion in the 21st century, performance and live art responding to pedal power, and inventions to make life more interesting through bicycles East Street Arts and partners will explore the potential of cycling through a range of activities including transportation, sport, interaction and other imaginative happenings in the city. June & July 2013

Pedal Power runs throughout June and July 2013 at venues across Leeds. They are part of East Street Arts’ trailblazing arts programme ‘Juliana’s Bike’ that includes workshops, exhibitions, games, and a smorgasbord of artistic interventions.

Key themes include bicycle fashion in the 21st century, performance and live art responding to pedal power, and inventions to make life more interesting through bicycles

East Street Arts and partners will explore the potential of cycling through a range of activities including transportation, sport, interaction and other imaginative happenings in the city.

In the lead up to next year’s Tour de France in Leeds, Juliana’s Bike is also included in Bike Fest, a city-wide celebration of cycling in 2013.

“On your bike…?” is a participatory workshop with Sohail Khan exploring issues, perceptions and views of young people and their relationship with bikes in Leeds through mapping, voice recording and photography. Many thanks to The Works Skate Park Charity for their generous support and hospitality.

Come and join us for a Sunday sing-a-long to Queen at the Adelphi whilst sharing your favourite cycling stories over a pint. Led by professional singing coach Isolde Freeth-Hale. All levels of singing ability are welcomed, there will be a part for everyone. Bring along a bicycle bell and a story to tell!

Join our noble quest to resurrect an ancient sport. We’re looking at design, safety, rules of engagement and much more in this bespoke introduction to a new resource in the city; Leeds’ first pedal-drawn chariots!

A Toolkit for City Cycling 23 & 30 June / 7 July (12.00 - 3pm)Pedallers’ Arms 37 Mabgate Green, LS9 7DS

The workshop is aimed at building confidence and skills for anyone interested in cycling for transport around the city. Learn how to carry out basic maintenance and be more confident riding in traffic. Led by qualified bike mechanics and national cycling instructors.

Seacroft Gala 6 July (12 - 4pm)LS14Trust Seacroft Village Green, Fearnville BMX Track & Graffiti Wall (Fearnville Sports Centre)

Seacroft Gala 2013 hosts an urban wellbeing extravaganza, with a live BMX course and urban art wall promoting alternative local activities for young people in Seacroft.

Leeds Bike Polo 28th June (6pm)TNL Collective / Charles Hunt Brudenell Social Club, 33 Queen's Rd, Leeds, LS6 1NY

A scene start-up with a DIY attitude, taking place in unused public spaces and people who are involved in cycling in Leeds with an open mind and taste for something different. The workshop includes the design and distribution of information, rules about the game, workshops on mallet making, and a teambuilding ride out with bike control sessions. The final will be a game of bike polo, giving the ability for new teams to spawn from the workshop and continue the game.

Learn how to make a bicycle trailer following an easy to replicate, low cost and weld-free design. The trailers we build will be available in return for a donation to Pedallers’ Arms for use of their workshop space.

CycloGeographic is a series of creative cycle explorations of Leeds. In small teams – Situationists and Romantics – you will embark on journeys of adventure and discovery, of sublime sojourns and errant dérives. Fuelled by prompts and provocations, your escapades will be recorded through pictures and poesy, texts and tweetings. Age 16+.

The Culture Vulture invites you to help create a Wheelie Ace printed commemorative zine in a day. Photographers, writers, illustrators, storytellers, poets, or cub reporters are invited to sign up to a limited capacity workshop.
