TRAUMA CASE #2: History: 25-year-old female from NYC on a Friday nite was playing with her friend’s dog on a visit to her friend in PA. The dog jumped up and hit her in the face and broke #8. She came to the ER at the PA hospital where I was on call. There was no mobility and only pain to cold due to the exposed dentin. The pt came in with the broken piece. I offered to bond it back on but she did not want me to do it and wanted something done hold her over for the pain to cold only and no mobility. She wanted her dentist in NYC to bond it on the next day. Goal: Do a GIC band-aid for relief from pain. Due to the pt being needle phobic, this allowed me to mix it and place it with no need for local anesthesia at the same time offering relief from pain to cold so that she could sleep that night and eat the next day. Procedure: GIC band-aid Isolated the tooth with cotton rolls. I conditioned the exposed dentin with the GC America conditioner and agitated it for 10 secs and then rinsed for 10 secs with water and then gently dried. I mixed and placed the Fuji IX extra and put some at the mesial contact with the mesial of #9 to lock it in because the pt had excessive demands such that I anticipated that with the the slightest problem she would have called me all night and that is why I locked it in to make sure it did not fall off. After that, I shaped it, smoothed it, and checked the occlusion and did not need to be adjusted and the pt was dismissed.
