wartime speeches alone cannot begin to describethe misery and fortitude, desperation and terrorendured by the civilian population during the‘Blitz nights’ in Coventry, the London docklandsand the east end as night after night bombs andincendiaries rained down on them. their personalexperiences and those of war correspondents likeJames negley Farson are as vivid, poignant anddescriptive as those of the bomber crews carryingthe war to the enemy in the early night bomberoffensive. these too are mostly recounted at firsthand and they tell just what it was like to fly in aheavy bomber over occupied europe during theSecond world war.
