Pennsylvania Program goals support Healthy People

2010 Objectives: Change community norms through state-

advised, community-driven systems that create environments where it is uncommon to see, use, and be negatively impacted by tobacco smoke products and tobacco smoke pollution

Reduce consumption of tobacco products in Pennsylvania youth and adults to less than 12% by 2010

Excise tax increased 69 cents ($1.00 total) July 2002

Act 112 of 2002 enacted August 2002 – amended youth access to tobacco law

Synar Survey of 2002 reported non-compliance rate of 14.5% (Survey 2001 – 27.9%)

Chronic Disease Programs Heart Disease and Stroke - defining

cardiovascular burden of disease and creating a statewide strategic plan

Oral Health – training of PA dentists to conduct oral screenings and promote PA’s Free Quitline in FQHC’s (primary population African American males)
