BOARD OF SAFETY IN SPECIAL
SESSION DECIDES UPON RE ¬
COMMENDATION OF MARSHAL
SANDERS TO HAVE THREEWATCHES
After considering the matter at itsregular meeting the Board of PublicSafety in special session last nightgranted the recommendation of Mar-shal Sanders for eighthour policewatches thus making three watches-for each day the present forcewhich was Increased by the recent ap ¬propriation of the council to be di-vided
¬
into three squads This be ¬comes effective on November 1
In making this change the marshaland board believe that much betterresults can be obtained by officersworking eight hours instead of twelve-as at present Not only do the off-icers
¬
at present serve twelve hours ontheir beats but many of the nightforce have to spend from one to threehours at the police courts givingthem but little time for rest andsleep
Marshal Sanders communicated with-a number of clUes where the eighthour watch Is in force and ascer ¬tained that in these cities excellentresults are obtained
The marshal will divide the forceinto three squads and the hours ofduty will be as follows Squad No1 from 8 a m to 4 p m squad No2 from 4 p m to 12 midnight squad-No 3 from midnight to 8 a m
