WhenthetimeforPentecostwasfulfilled,theywereallinoneplacetogether.Andsuddenlytherecamefromtheskyanoiselikeastrongdrivingwind,anditfilledtheentirehouseinwhichtheywere.Thenthereappearedtothemtonguesasoffire,whichpartedandcametorestoneachoneofthem.AndtheywereallfilledwiththeHolySpiritandbegantospeakindifferenttongues,astheSpiritenabledthemtoproclaim.

NowthereweredevoutJewsfromeverynationunderheavenstayinginJerusalem.Atthissound,theygatheredinalargecrowd,buttheywereconfusedbecauseeachoneheardthemspeakinginhisownlanguage.Theywereastounded,andinamazementtheyasked,“ArenotallthesepeoplewhoarespeakingGalileans?Thenhowdoeseachofusheartheminhisnativelanguage?WeareParthians,Medes,andElamites,inhabitantsofMesopotamia,JudeaandCappadocia,PontusandAsia,PhrygiaandPamphylia,EgyptandthedistrictsofLibyanearCyrene,aswellastravelersfromRome,bothJewsandconvertstoJudaism,CretansandArabs,yetwehearthemspeakinginourowntonguesofthemightyactsofGod.”
