PASTOR’S FALL SUNDAY AFTERNOON STUDY

It began at the Shadyside Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh some 83 years ago and by 1940 the practice had been adopted by the Federal Council of Churches (the predecessor to the National Council of Churches today). And from there it began to spread all around the globe, growing into a truly international and ecumenical celebration of Christian unity.

Some eighteen hours ago, for instance, Methodists living in Tonga shared in the observance of it, and as the sun has risen around the globe today, millions of Christians in many denominations have already joined in. Now it’s our turn to participate and as we come to yet another World Communion Sunday we would invite you to contemplate just how incredible the broadness of the Body of Christ really is.

In our festival service this morning you will notice that the music will reflect some of the global nature of this day. And your gifts left at the altar rail in any of our worship times will similarly go to support the United Methodist program of scholarships for both U.S. and international students.

How beautiful indeed is the Body of Christ! And don’t forget to pass it on!

THE WEEKLY WORD“One in Him” TODAY’S FOCUS

Looking for a church home? All are warmly welcomed at Christ Church. We invite you to stop by our “I’m New Here” table downstairs in the Gathering Hall where you can find out more about our congregation. First time guests can also pick up a special welcome gift there. If you would like to join the Christ Church family today, you may do so either by professing your faith in Jesus Christ, or by transferring your membership from another Christian congregation. Simply fill out a new member card which may be found in the Sanctuary pew racks and bring it with you as you come to the front to meet the pastors during the closing music at any of our services. If you have not yet been baptized, we will be happy to recognize your decision today as well as arrange for a convenient time to talk with you about the meaning of that sacrament before scheduling it for one of our upcoming worship services. For more information about our programs, staff and beliefs, please visit our website at www.christchurchsl.org.
