Portable Device Engine Data
This document is intended for “Portable” kits that move from vehicle to vehicle frequently, requiring
connection outside the dash. Devices that remain in the same vehicle for any length should be connected
using the standard connections documented on the PeopleNet Support Center.
Different vehicle manufacturers have offered different engine data output connectors over the years, making
the creation of a “universal” portable connection impossible.
The G3 OBC required an external MultiBus Adapter, which acted as a jumper and allowed the G3 to sit farther
from the vehicle connector. PeopleNet Mobile Gateway (PMG) includes an internal MBA, making the standard
cable shorter. As such, a 120” extension cable is recommended for PMGs, allowing the cable to route from
the passenger’s seat to the diagnostic port safely.
The below recommendations show PeopleNet’s currently available options for the most common vehicles.
Check the PeopleNet Support Center for vehicles not mentioned here.
WARNINGS
Always route cables so that they will not interfere with safe vehicle operation or interfere with the
driver’s ability to enter and exit the vehicle safely.
The L-016-0614 adaptor includes three different connectors for different vehicles. It is absolutely
critical that the correct connector is used. Failure to do so could cause vehicle issues.

All 9-Pin Vehicles - PMG
Follow the guide below for all vehicles with round 9-pin diagnostic ports, green or black. This will include
Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner, International, and Volvo/Macks with Cummins engines.
Always verify that the correct connector on L-016-0614 is used. Failure to do so could cause vehicle errors.

Hino – PMG
Hino model years 2011 and 2012 use an OBD-type connector, mating to PeopleNet cable L-016-0534.
The only engine data access in 2013-and-newer Hinos is inside the dash near the fuse panels, mating to L-
016-0593. Refer to the PeopleNet Support Center for more information on connection location.

9-Pin Vehicles – G3 OBC
Follow the guide below for all vehicles with round 9-pin diagnostic ports. This will include Peterbilt, Kenworth, Freightliner,
International, and Volvo/Macks with Cummins engines.
NOTE: The L-016-0511 option on the following page is recommended for pre-2010 vehicles, as it includes J1708 data. Some
Model Years require J1708 for Fuel and other data.
Always verify that the correct connector on L-016-0614 is used. Failure to do so could cause vehicle errors.

G3 OBC with L-016-0511
The L-016-0511 9-Pin solution is recommended for older vehicles, as it includes support for the J1708 engine data bus. This
was the original engine data circuit, phased out in the late 2000s across most vehicles. Some data, including Fuel, may not
be available without that circuit on older vehicles.

Devices that move exclusively between Hinos can use L-016-0533 in place of L-016-0152, L-016-0593, and
optional L-016-0533.
Hino model years 2011 and 2012 use an OBD-type connector, mating to PeopleNet cable L-016-0534.
