The host student was more than a substitute resource, offering additional positive elements, viz -

a). Accessibility to learners – commonality from involvement in the learning experience, lowering the power gradient, contemporary vocabulary

b). Motivational – “I could be there next year”

c). Enjoyable – fewer time pressures, less sense of “being a nuisance”

d). Contributing to host achieving their own learning outcomes
