What type of work will I do?Summer Internship Program


Market report for a country or region that Pepper is considering for expansion or

investment. The project would include an analysis of the macroeconomic environment,

competitive landscape, customer dynamics, and a concluding investment recommendation

with discussion of an appropriate entrance strategy.

Orchestrate deep-dive research into global and domestic trends within the fintech and

digital lending space, and what they mean for Pepper’s existing and future businesses.

Conduct research that targets a better understanding of the demand-profile of

millennials and Gen Z with respect to disruptive or innovative financial products.

Drive a fundamental research project into a prospective asset Pepper is considering

for investment.

Maria SerovaIntern – 2019

London Office

BSc Biochemistry – Oxford

Originally from Kyrgyzstan but studying in the UK, Maria joined us for the

Winter class of our Global Internship Program based out of our Regent Street

office in London. Maria worked closely with one of our Australian interns on a

deep-dive research project into how AI/ML is changing the supply chain

financing vertical. Despite having limit prior exposure to the financial sector,

Maria excelled across all fronts and will be returning to Pepper in 2020.

Nick ZylstraIntern – 2019

Sydney Office

BSc Economics & Entrepreneurialism – University of Virginia

Nick grew up in Sydney but currently studies Economics with a focus on

Entrepreneurialism in the States. Nick has held a number of leadership positions,

including Head Prefect of Scots College in 2015, and more recently as Student

President of the oldest fraternity in the University of Virginia. While at Pepper,

Nick drove a research project into consumer sentiment in Australian Banking that

provided strong context for a recent investment decision of Pepper’s.

“As someone from a non-financial background, I found the Program to be an

extremely valuable learning experience. The most enjoyable aspect for me was the

potential impact that our projects could have and the fact that we were able to

present our findings to the execs, as well as the balance between guidance and

freedom that we had with our projects. The learning element of it was especially

manifested by the high quality of training we were given. Despite being interns, we

were also essentially given daily access to those in the highest positions of the

company, who were happy to address any questions we had.”

My time at Pepper exceeded all my expectations. The interest the executives took in

the Program made us feel valued and encouraged me to continue working hard

every day. The scope of the projects was an exciting challenge, forcing us to

collaborate not only with our dedicated partners, but with the entire team of interns

across the world. While this had its own set of hurdles, I believe that working in this

environment taught me a great deal about not only the world of finance, but also

about how to be an active member of a global team. I can definitely say that my time

with Pepper was an incredibly experience and I am extremely grateful for the

opportunity.
