I. Introduction Background of FPAM

The Financial Planning Association of Malaysia (FPAM) is a non-profit organisation with a mission to raise the standards of competency and ethical practice of qualified Financial Planners in Malaysia and to educate the public on the benefits of financial planning. It was formed in December 13, 1999 to promote the CFP certification process and the CFP designation as the highest level of competence in the financial planning profession in Malaysia. The Association is represented by a group of corporate and professional individuals representing the diverse financial services industry such as insurance, unit trusts, banking, legal services, stockbroking, accounting services and assets management.

The primary purpose of FPAM is to educate the Malaysian public in the process and benefits of financial planning and to raise the professionalism in the delivery of financial products through a more comprehensive and holistic approach. Towards this, FPAM endeavors to provide professional education programs for candidates aspiring to be CFP licensees, through qualified, Approved Education Providers.

OBJECTIVES

The objectives of the Association includes :

to establish a professional self-regulatory organisation to benefit the public by fostering professional standards in financial planning

to introduce the concepts of financial planning to practitioners and other related professionals in the financial services industry

to develop practice standards for the profession in Malaysia to establish open dialogues with financial services entities and encourage them to adopt

ethics, education and practice standards for their representatives to develop strategic partnerships with consumer groups to promote the importance of

financial planning to promote and assist academia in establishing a knowledge base for financial planning

in Malaysia to strengthen cooperation with the international Financial Planning Standards Board and

other national affiliates to develop cooperative policies that promote the CFP certification as the globally recognized standard of excellence for financial planners

MISSION STATEMENT

To educate the public in the process and benefits of financial planning and to raise the standards of competency and ethical practice of qualified financial planners in Malaysia.

II. Objectives of PERAK FinEx 2010

The objectives of PERAK FinEx 2010 include:

Providing a forum to disseminate and educate the public about financial planning

Providing the investing public with access to the various financial products and services from our Charter Members

Providing an avenue for organizations which are engaged in financial planning to

profile and promote their products and services.

III. Date and venue

The Perak Financial Expo will be held on:

Date: 7th and 8th of August 2010

Venue: Syuen Hotel, Ipoh.

Day 1 and Day 2: Exhibition by various financial institutions and financial planning talk will be delivered by the renowned speakers from the financial sector.

IV. About Perak FinEx 2010

PERAK FinEx 2010 will be an exciting and engaging event. PERAK FinEx 2010 is targeting over 10,000 visitors to the two-day exhibition comprising young professionals, business owners, high net worth individuals, upper middle class income families and affluent retirees. The financial planning profession is also expected to show strong attendance.

PERAK FinEx 2010’s programme will comprise an exhibition (approximately 29 booths) by companies involved in personal wealth such as banks, insurance companies, unit trust companies, companies that deal in trusts and wills, security houses, financial planning consultancies and property companies. Running in conjunction with the exhibition will be a series of talks, workshops and mini seminars by well-known speakers on financial planning and related issues. The main related regulatory and statutory bodies are also expected to participate.

The organizer will undertake an extensive promotion and marketing campaign to target the desired audience and will include the traditional print media as well as the electronic media. This will be complemented by carefully targeted drop mails as well as posters and buntings around the town and other appropriate areas.

The targeted audience will be drawn largely from the affluent Perak State, including the major town of Ipoh, Taiping, Sitiawan, Teluk Intan, Cameron Highlands and other small towns.

Platinum and Gold sponsors will have the opportunity to host and participate in the various financial talks/ workshops held during the event to promote their products and services to the public.
