Sea going vessels require large amounts of fuel to operate. Therefore diesel engine performance is paramount to a ships owner’s bottom line. Most marine diesel engines operate on lower-quality fuels that can cause ignition delays and incomplete combustion.

Properignitiontimingreducesexhaustgastemperatureandtherateofexcesscarbonbuild-up. Tuning the engine may reducespecific fuel oil consumption (SFOC). Foreach degree that the ignition is retardedSFOCincreasesbyapproximately2%.ThePREMET®Mmayprotectagainstcost-ly downtime by implementing predictivemaintenance. Major defects can be eas-ily detected. Engine maintenance can beplanned,thussavinginpartsandlaborbychangingenginepartsbasedonneed,notontimedintervals.

The PREMET® M has a rugged housingand uses a Kistler PiezoSMART pressuresensoroflatestdesignwhichisbeingcon-nectedtotheindicatorvalveofthecylinderfor ameasurement. 4-stroke engines canbe measured without pick up with highaccuracy but to achieve an even higheraccuracy a pick up can be used. Acoustic Emission (AE) waves are commonly defined as transient elastic waves within a material caused by the release of localized stress energy. Hence, an event source is the phenomenon which releases elastic energy into the material, which then propagates as an elastic wave.

Shaft Power Meter

The CMT Shaft Power Meter is the cost effective solution when reliable shaft power measurement is required. It is a permanent monitoring system which continuously measures the shaft (effective) torque, power and RPM.

TheShaft Power Meteritselfconsistsoftwometaltapeswithmagneticpattern,twosensorsandatransmitter.

A4-20mAsignal,proportionaltotheshafttorquein%oftheMCRvalueisaveragedbyapresetnumberofupto255consecutiverevolutions.

The4-20mAtorqueoutputandthepulseRPMsignalcanbeconnectedwithanyshipautomation.ShaftpoweriscalculatedbytorqueandRPM.AlldatacanbetransferredtoaPCviatheUSBconnector.
