Your Guide To Keeping Plaque, Gingivitis & Periodontal Disease Under Control

Your Dental Professional has determined

that you have a form of periodontal

disease and that you need to take a more

disciplined approach in caring for your

teeth and gums. In healthy gums, tissue

and bone structure keep teeth firmly in place. In diseased gums,

a bacterial infection can lead to swelling or bleeding and can

ultimately destroy the gums and bone that support the teeth.

Plaque Is Unavoidable

Dental plaque is a thin, sticky film that occurs naturally on the

tooth surface. Proper brushing, flossing and rinsing can remove

or disrupt the normal daily accumulation of plaque. However,

if left undisturbed, dental plaque can become pathogenic and

may lead to dental caries, gingivitis and periodontal disease.

Gingivitis Is Reversible

If the plaque remains undisturbed, it becomes increasingly

difficult to remove. If left untreated, this can lead to an infection

in your gums called gingivitis. This early stage of periodontal

disease is usually characterized by inflammed or bleeding gums.

Gingivitis may require “co-therapy”, involving treatment by

your Dental Professional and a disciplined approach to your

at-home oral care.

Periodontal Disease Is Controllable

Advanced stage periodontal disease occurs when a bacterial

infection worsens and destroys the gums and bone that support

the teeth. “Pockets” can form between the teeth and gum,

trapping bacteria. If left untreated, the pockets may deepen,

weakening tooth support and increasing the potential for tooth

loss. Advanced stage periodontal disease requires co-therapy

to help control the infection.

Compliance™ 28 Day Oral Co-Therapy KitThe alcohol-free Compliance Oral Co-Therapy Kit is designed

to make the essential oral habits of brushing, rinsing and flossing

a pleasant daily routine for you. The products in the kit will

augment your current oral hygiene habits during the length of

your treatment as recommended by your Dental Professional.

1. Brush

The Compliance kit contains ControlRx™ 1.1% Sodium Fluoride

Toothpaste and a soft-bristle toothbrush. The toothbrush should

be used exclusively throughout the 28 Day treatment period

and then discarded.

ControlRx toothpaste provides a prescription level of fluoride

in a gentle, yet effective formulation. Its low abrasive formula

is especially beneficial for sensitive or inflamed gums and

exposed root surfaces.

2. Rinse

The Compliance oral co-therapy kit also contains two PerioMed™

0.63% Stannous Fluoride Concentrate Co-Therapy Rinse Kits.

Each rinse kit includes PerioMed rinse concentrate, a proven

bacteria fighting medicine, and 14 PerioMix™ Mixing Solution

packets. This daily rinse mixture combats bacteria that can

cause gingival inflammation.

3. Floss

Proper flossing is your first line of defense against plaque

accumulation between teeth and below the gum line. The

Floss N Toss™ Disposable Flossers that are included in the kit

are convenient, quick and easy to use. They can be bent at

angles for ease of use in reaching back teeth and also have

a pick at the opposing end for added convenience.
