SE TRATA DE UNA DESCRIPCIÓN A TRAVÉS DE UN RESUMEN

“La señorita Brooke poseía ese tipo de hermosura que parece quedar realzada

por el atuendo modesto. Tenía las manos y las muñecas tan finas que podía

llevar mangas no menos carentes de estilo que aquellas con las que la Virgen

María se aparecía a los pintores italianos, y su perfil, así como su altura y

porte, parecían cobrar mayor dignidad a partir de su ropa sencilla, la cual,

comparada con la moda de provincias, le otorgaba la solemnidad de una

buena cita bíblica —o de alguno de nuestros antiguos poetas— inserta en un

párrafo de un periódico actual. Solían hablar de ella como persona de

excepcional agudeza, si bien se añadía que su hermana Celia tenía más

sentido común.”

LA MEJOR FORMA DE DESCRIBIR A UN PERSONAJE ES A TRAVÉS DE SUS ACCIONES

“Rosemary alzó la mirada y vio que se dirigía a la puerta; le miró sin tener la

más leve idea de lo que pasaba por su cabeza, vio que avanzaba otro paso

lentamente y se volvía para mirarla de nuevo, y por un momento sintió deseos

de tenerlo en sus brazos y devorarlo: deseaba su boca, sus orejas, el cuello de

su chaqueta, deseaba cercarlo, apoderarse de él. Vio que su mano agarraba el

pomo de la puerta. Entonces se dio por vencida y volvió a dejarse caer sobre la

cama. En cuanto se cerró la puerta, se levantó y fue hasta el espejo y empezó

OTRA FORMA DE CONOCER A UN PERSONAJE ES A TRAVÉS SU FORMA DE HABLAR.

“—¿No lo oyes? Yo lo oigo, sí. Lo oigo y lo he oído. Durante mucho, mucho,

mucho tiempo… muchos minutos, muchas horas, muchos días lo he oído…

pero no me atrevía… ¡Al, piedad para mí, mísero desdichado que soy…! ¡No me

atrevía a hablar…! ¡La enterramos viva en la tumba! ¿No te dije que mis

sentimientos están agudizados? Ahora te digo que percibí sus primeros

movimientos, débiles en el fondo del ataúd. Los oí hace muchos, muchos días

y, sin embargo, no me atreví a hablar…”

EL ENTORNO QUE RODEA AL PERSONAJE, TANTO SOCIAL COMO GEOGRÁFICO SUPONE UNA LIMITACIÓN A SUS DESEOS QUE SUELE PONER EN MARCHA LA ACCIÓN DE LOS RELATOS. TANTO EL PAISAJE COMO LA GEOGRAFÍA PUEDEN ADEMÁS AFECTAR AL ESTADO ANÍMICO DE LOS PERSONAJES. Y OCURRE LO MISMO EN SENTIDO INVERSO. EN OCASIONES LAS EMOCIONES DE ESTOS SE PROYECTAN SOBRE EL PAISAJE.

“Sintió la respiración de Dick en el hombro. La obligó a volverse hacia él y ella le besó

varias veces, y cada vez que se acercaba, agarrándose a sus hombros, se le agrandaba

el rostro.

-Está lloviendo mucho.

De repente se oyó una detonación que venía de las laderas cubiertas de viñas del otro

lado del lago; estaban lanzando cañonazos contra las nubes cargadas de granizo para

romperlas. Todas las luces de la avenida se apagaron y luego volvieron a encenderse.

Entonces se precipitó la tormenta, que cayó primero del cielo y luego en torrentes de

las montañas, arrastrándose estrepitosamente por los caminos y las acequias de

piedra. Llegó acompañada de un cielo sombrío y amenazador, rayos feroces y truenos

que parecían partir la tierra en dos, mientras las nubes desgarradas pasaban en su

huida destructora por encima del hotel. Desaparecieron el lago y las montañas y el

hotel se encogió en medio del tumulto, el caos y las tinieblas.”
