Las Escobas restaurant is the oldest tavern in Spain. There are reliable sources telling that around 1386 there were a local broom maker had to make brooms and at the same time serve wines to the visitors. So he put a table with barrels, while he was alone with no customers he made brooms that he hanged all over the ceiling to sell it.

This tavern was located in front of the Cathdral´s for-giveness door, it was necesaty to enter going through a

narrow street. We know that it was close by the Cathedral´s stairs, where there was marketing, so some times the tavern was visited by knaves and troublemakers the bater days. The good taste for the high quality wines gave good luck to the broom maker who stopped selling brooms, that its had been left all over the local ceiling.

Many years later, when the city became the Indias port, and it was visited by travellers, Las Escobas turned into a mandatory inn, where a lot of people from different possition walked into it, could be found poets, painters, writters...drinking good wine. In the Spanish Gold Century people as Cervantes or Lope de Rueda were sitting on the tables. During the Romanticism verse were composed in the place by Becquer, Dumas or Lord Byron...The 98th Generation made this tavern a must a obligatory meeting point, Alvarez Quitero Brothers, Santiago Montoto ...were fre-quent customers as another poets from the 27th Generation.

Until few years ago it was a mandatory place to highbrow people. This place has the same name from the begin: LAS ESCOBAS. Almost clo-sed in the senventies, XX century, the marriage Victor Soriano and Helena Valenzuela, original both from Seville, took the tavern to keep going with the tradition. They renovate the establishment with all their devotion, knowing that the had in theirs hands a part of the Sevillian history. Their sons, trained in officers Hospitality colleges and taking as a reference their grandfather, Sevillian master cuisine, ensure the continuity of Las Escobas improving old recipes from the Sevillian stove. ¡ Enjoy your meal !
