What is a Personal Slab Box
• Personal-should tell the viewer something about the artist
• Slab-made from slabs• Box-a container with a lid and handle
Our Project
Make a personal slab box:• Must have a functional lid• Must have a handle on the lid• Must tell the viewer something about the
artist• Must be atleast 5 inches tall
Step 1 – make walls• Roll out slabs- should be even• Cut desired shape/size – sides, top and bottom
• Set aside until leatherhard
2. Assemble Box• Once leatherhard• Slip, score and weld on walls together
3. Lid
• Decide on a design for the lid• Engrave it on the box• Use a cutting tool to follow the engraved line
and slice off the lid
4. Lip
• Add a slab to the inside of the box following the cut line– This holds your lid on
5. Design• Engrave things designs, add clay…anything to
decorate your box• The theme is you-so your decorations should
tell about you• Also Add Handle to lid
6. Underglaze
• Use underglaze to paint your box – Inside and out
7. Firing and Glazing
• Bisque fire• Glaze – paint on two layers of clear glaze• Glaze fire
