HOW TO WRITE PERSONAL STATEMENTS What to do on your personal statements:

• Your personal statement should clearly explain the reason(s) behind why you are applying for your application. You should always ensure that the details you want to express are clearly written. Your assessor can only assess your application based on what you have provided on your personal statement.

• If your application asks for any specific details please make sure that you consider this when writing your statement. • Write neatly to avoid any misunderstanding – having a clear, readable assessment of your application will prevent delays for the

assessment of your application. Example of a personal statement EXAMPLE: Dear UTS Student Centre, EXAMPLE: I am submitting an Application to Reduce Study Load due to Academic Difficulties in my course. EXAMPLE: During my first year at UTS I failed 2 subjects. I was studying at an overseas university before I entered this course. I found the transition into my new course difficult and I was also still adjusting to moving to Australia and living by myself for the first time. EXAMPLE: After realising how much I was struggling, I made an appointment to meet with my course director. My course director recommended that I reduce my study load to 3 units per session rather than 4 to ease the pressure on myself. I also made time to speak with the Student Centre who also helped me with organising my study plan. EXAMPLE: I have attached the written approval from my subject coordinator to support this application. Need help? You may receive assistance in person at UTS Student Centres.
