ENTRY REQUIREMENTS.
The Personal Support Worker program prepares graduates to providesupportive care to individuals across their lifespan by assisting themwith their activities of daily living, including clients experiencingcognitive impairment, physical disability, and mental healthchallenges.The range of services provided by Personal SupportWorkers depend upon the individual needs of each person theysupport and may include personal care such as dressing, personalhygiene, mobility and other routine activities of living in accordancewith the Regulated Health Professions Act, home management suchas shopping, light house cleaning and meal preparation, familyresponsibilities such as routine care giving to children and assistingwith social and recreational activities.As front line workers, PersonalSupport Workers must develop a broad range of abilities beyonddexterity skills. They must provide not only for the comfort, safety andwell-being of their clients, but also demonstrate sensitivity and respectfor those in their care.

Also maintain open communication,professional boundaries, and adhere to confidentiality andprivacy legislationIdentify client information using basic assessment andreport the findings in accordance with the requirements ofemployer policies and procedures and all other applicablelegislation.Promote and maintain a safe and comfortable environmentfor clients, their families, self and others including theimplementation of infection prevention and controlmeasures and emergency first aid procedures that are inkeeping with the plan of care/service plan, employerpolicies and procedures, and all applicable legislation.Use identified approaches and best practices to supportpositive and safe behavior in clients experiencing cognitiveimpairment, mental health challenges and/or responsivebehaviours.
