General: The Division undertakes research intothe factors governing natural precipitation proc-esses and the ways in which these processes canbe modified. It carries out laboratory investiga-tions, and studies natural clouds in the fieldusing its own extensively instrumented aircraft.A considerable amount of theoretical work isundertaken in association with this research. Duties: To set up and lead a small theoreticalgroup whose aim will be to formulate numericalmodels of clouds from which predictions can bemade of the effect of different environmentalparameters on cloud growth and the developmentof precipitation. It will be regarded as essentialto test the predictions against the behavior ofreal clouds and the applicant will be expectedto determine means of carrying out such tests.Participation in the field testing would also bedesirable.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree or equivalentqualifications in meteorology, physics, or appliedmathematics together with demonstrated researchability and considerable experience in numericalmodeling techniques and in computer program-ming. Prior experience in the development ofcloud models is essential.

A TRAINING PROGRAM IN THEPATHOLOGY OF MEMBRANES

YALE UNIVERSITYThe program is designed to provide advanced

research training for M.D.'s and Ph.D.'s withinterest in the biochemical, biophysical, andmolecular biological aspects of Cell Membranes.An emphasis is to be placed on the role ofmembranes in human disease.

Eligible: M.D.'s with 1 or 2 years of residencytraining or Ph.D.'s who wish to obtain addi-tional training in fundamental approaches in thestudy of membranes as well as experience indealing with problems related to human disease.

Fellows will have access to facilities in thedepartments of Pathology, Immunology, CellBiology, Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry.Chemistry, Physiology, and Internal Medicine atYale University.The training program will include formal

courses in physical approaches to the study ofmembrane structure, techniques in isolation andcharacterization of membrane components, semi-nars in the area of the molecular biology andpathobiology of cell membranes, trainee meet-ings, and an invited lecturer series. Trainees willbe encouraged to develop research programs in-volving two or more of the participating labora-tories.
