Conclusions• Organizations must engage in a scientific analysis

to profile the communities they serve. • An integrated approach to nursing workforce

planning that includes IENs will help to meet the needs of a diverse patient population.

• IENs provide human capital that adds value to employers and the healthcare system.

• The Canadian population is changing and has more diversified and complex needs.

• Safe and comprehensive care requires a workforce that reflects the health needs of the population.
