FALL BACK: DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME ENDSOn Sunday, November 1st, at 2 a.m., most residents of the United States and Canada will revert back to standard time, turning our clocks back one hour. Often referred to as "fall back,” this marks the end of daylight saving time. All U.S. states participate in this time change with the exception of Arizona (the Navajo Nation in Arizona does honor daylight saving, however) and Hawaii. Enjoy an extra hour of sleep!

TRAVEL SPOTLIGHT: SANTA FE, NEW MEXICOThere is no place quite like Santa Fe, especially during the holiday
season. Called “The City Different,” Santa Fe offers a rich and diverse cultural experience. The history, food, art, architecture and
natural beauty will inspire you. Hotels or vacation rentals range from $55 – $200+ per night. Here are a few things you won’t want to miss:
Canyon Road is home to over 100 art galleries, boutiques, and restaurants. The annual Christmas Eve Farolito Walk begins each year at dusk and continues late into the night. Sip cider, stroll galleries, sing carols, and cozy up near one of the many bonfires along the way. VisitCanyonRoad.com offers more details.
Ten Thousand Waves is a Japanese spa nestled in the Santa Fe National Forest and offers outdoor hot tubs and spa treatments that will ensure relaxation during the holiday hustle. A soak in one of their private tubs is especially enjoyable after a long day of skiing. TenThousandWaves.com has all of the details.

Sleep researchers have long warned that
watching TV, working on a computer, and using
other electronic devices will disrupt sleep patterns.
The type of short-wavelength enriched light that many backlit devices emit, known as blue light, is powerful at suppressing the release of melatonin, the hormone that helps
bring on sleep. At Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, the chief of the hospital’s division
of sleep and circadian disorders, Charles Czeisler, says, “Many people read
things to help them fall asleep. They don’t realize
that this technology is actually making them
less likely to feel sleepy.” The study by Czeisler and colleagues appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy of
Sciences.

1. Preheat oven to 475 degrees and spray baking sheet with nonstick spray. Combine onions, ¼ cup flour, panko and 1 teaspoon salt in a mixing bowl and arrange evenly on the baking sheet. Bake until golden brown, about 30 minutes, tossing every 10 minutes. Remove from the oven and set aside.
2. Turn oven down to 400 degrees. In a large pot, prepare the green beans by bringing a gallon of water and 2 tablespoons of salt to a boil. Throw green beans into the boiling water, blanching them, for 5 minutes. Drain and immediately plunge beans into a large bowl of ice water. Drain and set aside.
3. Melt butter in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add the mushrooms, 1 teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon pepper, and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes. Add garlic and nutmeg and continue to cook for another minute. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons of flour over the mixture, and stir to combine. Add broth and simmer for 1 minute. Add the half-and-half and cook until the mixture thickens, approximately 6 to 8 minutes.
4. Remove from the heat and stir in 1/4 of the onions and all of the green beans. Pour into a baking dish and top with the remaining onions. Place the dish into the oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until bubbly. Remove and serve immediately. Serves 4-6.

‘Tis the season to make a list, check it twice, and find a great deal on those holiday gifts! With a little planning, you can score some extra savings. Here are the major holiday
shopping dates to remember.
BLACK FRIDAY – NOVEMBER 27TH The most popular day of the year for
shoppers to take advantage of great deals is Black Friday. You can start by visiting
BlackFriday.com to sign up for ad alerts. You can also use the site’s mobile phone app,
Black Friday Shopping, to view all retail stores’ deals at once, as well as create a wish list.
SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY – NOVEMBER 28THThis day was created to encourage holiday shoppers to patronize small, local brick and mortar businesses. Small businesses create
jobs, boost the economy, and preserve neighborhoods. If that isn’t enough, small businesses usually offer more unique gift options and a more personal shopping
experience over big-box stores.
CYBER MONDAY – NOVEMBER 30THIf shopping in a crowded mall isn’t for you,
then you can merrily check loved ones off your list from the comfort of your home computer. A large percentage of online retailers include free shipping on Cyber
Monday, so take advantage and let them do the delivery. Also, try stacking coupon codes. For example, retailers might take a code for
free shipping, plus another for 20% off. Check out CyberMonday.com for lists of deals!
GIVING TUESDAY – DECEMBER 1STToday is a global day dedicated to giving
back. Founded in 2012, #GivingTuesday is a day that people can serve their communities
by giving time or goods to those in need. Check out GivingTuesday.org for more
information on how to get involved.
