FIP Pharmacy Education Taskforce Newsletter Volume III Issue 3 March 2011 News and Updates This month, we congratulate the PET leads, Advisory Group and Community of Practice members for their articles in the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education. Transforming Health Professional Education by Claire Anderson, Tina Brock, Ian Bates, Mike Rouse, Jennifer Marriott, Henri Manasse, Billy Futter, Suresh Bhojraj, Andrew Brown and Diane Gal The viewpoint article reflects on the global independent Commission on the Education of Health Professionals for the 21st Century that recently published an evidencebased argument focusing on the Millennium Development Goals as these relate to medicines. To address the workforce policy challenges mentioned in the article, the issues in pharmacy need to be addressed at national and global levels. In order to have a better understanding about pharmacy education across the globe, the FIP Pharmacy Education Taskforce and the World Health Organization (WHO) are currently implementing a global survey of pharmacy colleges and schools. Evaluation of Croatian Community Pharmacists’ Patient Care Competencies Using the General Level Framework by Arijana Mestrovic, Zivka Stanicic, Maja Ortner Hadziabdic, Iva Mucalo, Ian Bates, Catherine Duggan, Sarah Carter and Andreia Bruno In a Croatian community pharmacy setting, pharmacist’s used the General Level Framework (GLF) to assess their performance. The study was conducted in 38 pharmacies, involving 100 pharmacists with an adaption of the GLF. The results show where the performance of the pharmacists was best and poorest and also where their behaviour had the most variance. In conclusion the study shows which competencies need to be developed to improve pharmacists interventions, in the Croatian community setting. This study was the first of its kind in Croatia, and it can be used as a base for further considerations and actions. Resources    WHO  announces...  

The   launch   of   a   web-­‐based   public   hearing   from   21   March   to   17   April   2011   on   the   draft  guidelines   for  monitoring   the   implementation   of   the  WHO   Global   Code   of   Practice   on   the  International  Recruitment  of  Health  Personnel  ("the  Guidelines").  WHO  invites  contributions  to  this  public  hearing  on  the  draft  Guidelines  and  kindly  requests  dissemination  of  this  call  for  contributions  among  relevant  contacts  and  networks.  The  web-­‐based  public  hearing  and  the  draft   Guidelines   can   be   accessed   at   http://www.who.int/hrh/migration.   All   persons  concerned  with  the  international  recruitment  of  health  personnel  are  invited  to  contribute  to  this   web-­‐based   public   hearing   on   the   draft   Guidelines   -­‐  Member   States,   health   workers,  recruiters,  employers,  academic  and  research  institutions,  health  professional  organizations,  and   any   relevant   sub-­‐regional,   regional   and   international   organizations,   whether  governmental  or  nongovernmental.  

Input  received  during  the  course  of  this  web-­‐based  public  hearing  will  contribute  to  a  revised  draft  of  the  Guidelines.  Complementary  documents  concerning  the  Code  are  also  available  for  download  from  the  HRH  website  (http://www.who.int/hrh).  

Contributions   can   be   submitted   in   any   of   the   six   official  WHO   languages   (Arabic,   Chinese,  English,   French,   Russian   and   Spanish).   The   comments   can   be   submitted   by   email   to:  [email protected]

CALL  FOR  ARTICLES  |  IPJ  2011  Volume  1

The  call  for  articles  for  the  first  issue  of  the  International  Pharmacy  Journal  2011  is  open.    

In  this  issue  FIP  will  be  focusing  on  “Sustainability”    -­‐  that  is,  methods  and  innovations  that  are  allowing  the  pharmacy  profession  to  be  sustainable   in  the  context  of  an  expected  future  that  will   see   displacing   replacing   technologies,   re-­‐examination   of   professional   scope   of   practice,  growing  patient  knowledge  and  empowerment  and  a  changing  healthcare  policy  environment.    

FIP   is   requesting   that   articles   for   the   upcoming   IPJ   focus   on   Sustainability   in   relation   to   the  above  mentioned   issues.  Additionally,   there  should  be  a   focus  of  an  awareness  of   global   and  environmental   sustainability   and   to   showcasing   visionary   ideals   and   proposed   practical  solutions  for  current  and  future  challenges.      

DEADLINE  FOR  SUBMISSION  IS  15th  APRIL  2010.

2.1 / DO’S AND DON’TS LOGO & SIZE

Standard size (A4).Standard Height = 35 mm

Scaling.There is no limit to enlarge the logo. However, to scale it to smaller proportions is limited.If you have to scale, whether you minimise or maximise the logo, do it in steps of 20% if possible. This way, there will be only a small amount of larger and smaller logos which is essential for uniformity.

Minimal size.Don’t use the logo smaller than 40% of the standard size. The minimal height is 14 mm.
