Guest speakers Peter and Sue with Chairman
David and Keith.
Chairman David introduced Peter Quennell and Sue Lawrence, joint secretaries of the Gippsland Vehicle Collection.
The GVC is a not for profit organisation. The concept was born after a parade of local cars in Maffra inspired local
enthusiasts to find a home to display the cars of collectors from the district. The idea found fruition on October 14 2006
when the collection was opened in the old M.G. Coop. building which was then unoccupied after a colourful career
serving many purposes. GVC is currently in negotiations to purchase the building and have spent over $150,000 on
renovations so far.
GVC runs a rotating show every 4 months with a different theme such as “Best of British” and the current show “Never
Been Kissed” – a sow of original vehicles which have never been restored. The next show to start soon features historical
4-wheel drive vehicles.
The Collection is run completely by volunteers and sees 10,000 visitors PA. They also run a variety of activities for
members such as the Melbourne to Maffra Rally and the fundraiser, “Tops off for Cancer” featuring convertible vehicles.
Sue emphasized what a great place it was for social connection, particularly for men, through a shared interest along the
lines of the Men’s Shed movement.
The shed is open every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday and every day during the school holidays.
Lyndon thanked Peter and Sue with a small memento of their time with us.
Lynda and guest daughter Chloe enjoy the presentation.
