2. ISP and Learning Account

• 13 courses from first stage are taken into your ISP : “Individual StudyProgramme” or ISP

• ISP consists out of study units (related to the courses)

• Learning account functiones as a backpack.

• A backpack full of study units (SU) – at the start: 140 SU

• SU are taken out upon every ISP registration (first stage BBA = 60 SU)

o 140 minus 60 = 80

• Successful SU will be recharged in your backpack

• As long as your backpack is loaded with study units, you go on with yourstudies.

• So : the difference between number of successful study units (>=10/20) andnumber of study units taken into your ISP must stay small, otherwise yourbackpack will be empty soon(er).

6. Exam results

• 2 chances to pass the course

o E.g. fail course in January 2nd chance in Aug./Sept.

fail course in June2nd chance in Aug./Sept.

o you keep the best mark

(only within the same academic year)

E.g. Philosophy

June: 9/20

August: 6/20

=> End result: 9/20

Page 18: Peter Vanmol - feb.kuleuven.be...2. ISP and Learning Account • 13 courses from first stage are taken into your ISP : “Individual Study Programme” or ISP • ISP consists out

6. Exam results

• 10/20 or more: credit

• 8/20 or 9/20: choice

o Retake (2nd exam chance or next academic year) or

o Tolerate (optional)

• Only for 8/20 or 9/20 and if study efficiency ≥ 50%

• For 18 SU in bachelor (in case of exemptions less).

• 1st year : up to a maximum of 12 tolerances

• ≤ 7/20: retake

Page 19: Peter Vanmol - feb.kuleuven.be...2. ISP and Learning Account • 13 courses from first stage are taken into your ISP : “Individual Study Programme” or ISP • ISP consists out

6. Exam resultsCourse with 2 parts

o At least 8,00/20 on both parts (A & B)

Final grade = average of part A & part B

• E.g.: part A: 8,20/20 – part B: 11,10/20 average: 9,65/20 = (from .5

rounded up =) 10/20 credit

o Less than 8,00/20 on one or two of the parts

Final grade = the lowest grade

e.g. Part A : 6,3/20 and Part B : 11,7/20 => End result =

6,3/20 (lower than .5 rounded down = ) 6/20

2nd exam chance only (!) for the unsuccessful part

Last (NOT the best) result counts for parts !

Again one of the two parts less than 8/20? Both parts again next year

8,00/20 on both parts? Final grade = average grade

Page 20: Peter Vanmol - feb.kuleuven.be...2. ISP and Learning Account • 13 courses from first stage are taken into your ISP : “Individual Study Programme” or ISP • ISP consists out

7. Study Progress Measures

A. Calculating Cumulative Study Efficiency (CSE)

number of credits (10>=20) (tolerances not included)

= __________________________

number of study units taken into your ISP

calculated over all preceding years

• E.g. Results AY End 1: 45 credits/60 SU SE 75%

Results AY End 2: 50 credits/55 SU SE 91%

CSE = (45+50)/(60+55) = 83% CSE

Page 21: Peter Vanmol - feb.kuleuven.be...2. ISP and Learning Account • 13 courses from first stage are taken into your ISP : “Individual Study Programme” or ISP • ISP consists out

7. Study Progress Measures

A. Cumulative Study Efficiency (CSE)

• For students who didn’t obtain 60 SU by the

o End of Year 1:

- CSE < 30% no access to the same programme

for 1 year!

- CSE < 50% access possible + compulsory

conditions

o End of Year 2:

CSE < 50% no access to all KUL programmes

for 1 year!

Page 22: Peter Vanmol - feb.kuleuven.be...2. ISP and Learning Account • 13 courses from first stage are taken into your ISP : “Individual Study Programme” or ISP • ISP consists out

7. Study Progress Measures

A. Cumulative Study Efficiency : overall result

E.g.: Results

• AY now (end): 24 credits/ 60 SU

CSE = 24/60 = 40%

access + binding conditions

• AY next (end): 29 credits/ 49 SU (=59% !)

CSE = (24+ 29)/ (60+49) = 48,62%

49%

no access to all KUL programmes

for 1 year!

Page 23: Peter Vanmol - feb.kuleuven.be...2. ISP and Learning Account • 13 courses from first stage are taken into your ISP : “Individual Study Programme” or ISP • ISP consists out

7. Study Progress Measures

B. Cumulative Study Efficiency : single courses

• 2nd time in your year programme: YES (unless SE < 30%)

• 3rd time in your year programme:

* CSE ≥ 50%: YES

* CSE < 50%: NO

No access to KUL programmes of which the

course unit is part - for 1 year!

• 4th time in your year program: NO

No access to KUL programmes of which the course

unit is part - for 3 years!

! The registration in your ISP counts, not the fact if you take the exam or

not!

Page 24: Peter Vanmol - feb.kuleuven.be...2. ISP and Learning Account • 13 courses from first stage are taken into your ISP : “Individual Study Programme” or ISP • ISP consists out

7. Study Progress Measures

C. Prevent situations A & B!

• Reflect:

? Enough study time?, Enough effort?, Slow/fast track?,

Tutorials?, Coaching?, Trial exams ? Exam feedback? …

• In 2nd semester:

• ? Adaptations in ISP (less than 30 SU)? (deadline = 1st of March)

• In 2nd BBA:

• Limited number of study units in ISP (less than 60 SU)?

• Professional bachelor (BBM at Odisee) instead of academic bachelor?

Contact the study coaches for more information!
