3. Peterlee Beerfest, Shotton Hall, Saturday 28 October 2017, doors open at 2pm
Members are asked to note and approve the ongoing arrangements to stage an ‘Oktoberfest’-
style event at Shotton Hall on Saturday 28th October 2017.

4. Community Cinema
Members will be informed of proposals to run a pilot ‘community cinema’ service from
the Helford Road Pavilion in summer 2017.

5. Christmas extravaganza – lights etc Shotton Hall
Members will be informed of proposals to provide lighting and other Christmas festive
decorations in Shotton Hall grounds over the Christmas 2017 period.

Members will receive an update on progress with a number of Town Events including
Peterlee Show, Peterlee in Bloom, Fireworks/Bonfire Nights, and Summer Fun Days.

Report to: Peterlee Town Council Event’s Sub Committee

Subject: Update on Peterlee Show & other outdoor events 2017
Report of: Janet Hugill, Show Co-ordinator
Report Purpose: To present Members with the details of activities and
entertainment booked for Peterlee Show, Family Fun Days and
Bonfire Night Celebration 2017. To give an update on Peterlee in
Bloom and the Leisure Gardens competition.
Background: Peterlee Show now in its 45th year has been a popular family event with approximately 10,000 people visiting over the weekend. Over the nine years I have organised Peterlee Show there have
been a lot of changes some of which include the layout of the Show, number of marquees used for various activities, stage performances and arena entertainment.
For details of this year’s Show please see appendix 1.
The family fun days have been taken place in Woodhouse Park for 4 years. All activities are free, including the kiddie rides and
children’s entertainment. The dates this year are Friday 21st July and Friday 11th August, 11am until 4pm.
Bonfire Night Celebrations will take place this year on Saturday
4th November with children’s entertainment in the Pavilion, Helford Road between 4.00 – 6.00pm. The fireworks display will commence at 6.30 for a 20 minute display choreographed to a selection of music from Pirates of the Carribbean.
Peterlee in Bloom is the Town’s annual gardens competition. The judging day is held on Monday 10th July starting at 9.00am where the Mayor and judges are taken around to look at the gardens that have entered the competition. There are prizes for the best large

and small gardens, 1st to 5th place. There are also prizes for 5 other categories. Further detail is provided in appendix 2. On the same day as the gardens competition the leisure garden plots who have entered the competition are also judged. There are prizes for full and half plots, 1st to 5th place. All winners of Peterlee in Bloom categories will be invited to the presentation lunch at Shotton Hall on Thursday 20th July from 12.00 noon. As part of the lunch we have the presentation of the winners, a quiz and a raffle. There is a display of different photos taken from all the garden and plots for all residents to see. If you know of anyone with a nice garden please ask them to consider entering. Application forms are available from Shotton Hall, the Pavilion and on the Council’s website.

The stage will this year be host to professional artists and begin at 11.00am with a performance from Peterlee Gt Brass Band. From 11.40am there will be a mix of performances from dancers and cheerleaders. The performances from bands will begin this year at 2.00pm and continue until 10.00pm when we will conclude the night with a spectacular fireworks display

Companion Dog Show This Show receives considerable attention from our visitors who like to compete with their furry friends and hope to win prizes. Come along to register from 12.00 noon on Sunday 3rd September, judging will start at 1.00pm. A copy of the schedules now available. Fun Run Why not take part in our Fun Run, held on Sunday morning at 11.00am. Approximately 2 miles around the Denes and back. Fun for all the family, prizes to be won for adults & children. Entry forms available from July. Inter Club Sports Event This will be held on the Sunday afternoon on the cricket pitch. All sports teams that train at the Pavilion will be asked to enter a mixed team of adults and children. There needs to be a minimum of 3 teams and a maximum of 10. The sporting games will include, to name a few; relay race, throwing game and tug of war. Fun Fair Nobles will once again be onsite this year to provide the most thrilling rides for our visitors, proving to be a constant source of enjoyment for all of the family, residents flock to the field to have some fun. Marquees This year the marquee will be dedicated on Saturday to; Voluntary Organisations, information stalls and a food and Craft Market organised by Events2gogo. On Sunday, there will be our Vintage Fair with the fantastic range of stalls. Application forms for Voluntary stalls available now.

Horticultural Show The Horticultural Show will be held in the Brian Joyce Room, upstairs in the Pavilion. There is a new schedule for this year, including 2 new classes for the children’s section. The produce will be on display all weekend for visitors to view the fantastic selection of flowers and vegetables, finishing with the auction of produce at 4pm on Sunday afternoon. Events2GoGo Will bring a fantastic selection of Craft and Food market stalls on Saturday, including, jewellery, soaps, candles, cards, clothes, breads, cakes, cheeses, and lots more.
Other Activities The RAF and Army will be attending with recruitments trailers and a variety of equipment for display purposes only. Sheridan the Sheepdog will be riding around the Showfield on his bicycle to mix and mingle with the children. The Parks Department will have some of the vehicles including tractors and grass cutters on display and a member of the team will be on duty to talk about what they do and the areas of Peterlee they look after. Children will be allowed to sit on the machines to have their photos taken.

Sunday Entertainment Keep your eyes peeled for the robot and LEGO men walking round to meet and greet the children for any photo shoots or just to say ‘hello’.
Vintage Fair
The Little Red Wagon will be Rockin' & Rollin' towards Peterlee Show on Sunday 3rd September with a convoy of more than 35 intrepid vintage traders to bring you the best of pre-loved & reproduction clothing, homeware, jewellery, art, music & quirky items from 1940s, 50s & 60s. Our Vintage Market is more than just a chance to shop. With fantastic live music from three rockin' bands, to get you on the dancefloor, a great selection of classic cars to see, mouth-watering treats to eat from Lickety Split, pin-up hair-styling for the gals and even a classic barber for the gents too...there is certainly something for everyone!

The Town Council are once again organising a competition for the domestic gardens and leisure gardens (allotments) in Peterlee.
This competition is open to all residents of Peterlee; (with the exception of Members, Staff of the Town Council and their immediate families). Entry is completely free. You do not need to be an expert gardener!
