A message from your Artistic Director/Theatre Coordinator
We acknowledge the Elders, families and descendants of the Wurundjeri people who have been and are the custodians of the land on which these events take place. We acknowledge that the land in which we meet was the place of age old ceremonies of celebration, initiation and renewal and that the local Aboriginal peoples have had, and continue to have, a unique role in the life of these lands.

STUDENT THEATRE GROUPSStudent theatre groups are groups of students who produce and perform their own shows, across many different types of performance from theatre, to dance and music. There are over 20 affiliated student theatre groups — you can find one you like, or even start your own. Student theatre is co-curricular so it doesn’t matter what you are studying — anyone can participate in a wide variety of roles the groups have on offer.
MENTORSHIP PROGRAMDo you need a creative mentor? Someone to guide you in your creative process? Be a sounding board for your ideas? Support you through your project? Or maybe you just need a creative friend. Union House Theatre staff are offering dedicated mentoring for students. Mentorships are available in Theatre Direction, Arts Administration, Marketing, Production Management, Technical Production and Set Building. In Semester 2 we are also running a Fringe Festival mentorship group for those of you putting on Fringe shows. UHT’s things we should talk about rehearsal Photo by Harriet Wallace–Mead
The Writer-in-Residence program at UHT is an opportunity for students to work closely with an industry professional as they develop a piece of theatre or performance. In 2018 students worked with playwright, dramaturg and theatre-maker Mari Lourey.
In semester 2 participants put their work in front of an audience for the first time, in the UHT Playreading mini-fest. Over two nights you’ll hear snippets of work, see new ideas and meet the playwrights from the program as they test and trial their scripts.
