Katherine. Everyone wants to marry her younger sister, Bianca. No one can marry Bianca until Katherine has been taking off the hands of her demented father, Baptista. Petruchio decides that he will tackle, and marry the fierce Katherina.
PLOT SYNOPSIS
Petruchio is a young man from
Verona, Italy.He is out to discover the world in his quest to find and marry a wealthy woman. Petruchio is an antagonist in Taming of the shrew because of his verbal and mental conflict with the main character, Katherine.

Set in Padua, Italy.
Set in 1590-1591

TAMING OF THE SHREW
Person Vs Person. As Petruchio mentally and
verbally treats Katherine badly to gain her respect.
Person Vs Self. As Katherine mentally breaks down when she is forced to marry Petruchio.
Person Vs Society. As Katherine believes she does not have to respect anyone else's views or respect anyone but herself.
CONFLICT IN THE TAMING OF THE SHREW
The main force of conflict in
The Taming Of The Shrew is Person Vs Person. This is between Petruchio and Katherine. This is the driving force in the play as Petruchio shows no respect to Katherine in attempt to change her moral values. This causes many arguments and fights during the course of the play.
DRIVING CONFLICTING FORCE.
Beginning
Exposition-Petruchio arrives in Padua, Italy. He wishes to marry a wealthy woman.
Exciting Force- Lucentio falls in love with Bianca, Katherine’s younger more beautiful sister. Bianca is only allowed to be married when Katherine is taken off the hands of their father. This is Petruchio’s role in the play.

Middle
Conflict/ rising action- Petruchio believes this is the perfect chance to get married to a wealthy woman. He meets Katherine and vowels to marry her no matter what she is like. Catastrophe or falling action- Petruchio finally meets Katherine, he sees what she is truly like. He follows his vowel and begins planning their wedding. Katherine abruptly refuses to go through with the wedding.

End
Resolution- Katherine finally agrees to the marriage. Bianca and Lucentio are pleased
because they know they will be married once Katherine does.
Denouement- After the wedding Petruchio shows he is not as kind as he first appeared as he begins to treat Katherine Badly and with no
respect. The does this until she begins to change the she acts. He tames her.

Comic/ Dramatic relief
Baptista, father of Katherine and Bianca throws a feast to celebrate the recent weddings. Petruchio shows that he has successfully
tamed his wife in front of everybody at the feast. They have a completion to see who has the most loyal wife. Every one is surprised to
learn that Katherine is now the most loyal of all the wives this proves that Petruchio has
successfully tamed the shrew.

Beginning
Petruchio a is seeking wealth rather than love, he believes this will make him happy. “Come to live wealthily in Padua; if wealthy then happy in Padua.”Petruchio shows no fear when he is told how fierce she is. “Why came I hither but to that intent? Think you a little din can daunt my ears?”Petruchio is ambitious and believes he can tame her. “I know she is a irksome brawling so old: If that be all, I hear no harm.”

Motivation
Petruchio is driven by his desperate want of wealth. The only way he knows how to do this is to marry an already wealthy woman. This was a general custom for this time period. Petruchio sees marrying Katherine to be the best option
for him to gain wealth. He is not discouraged by what people tell him about Katherine.
“I know she is a irksome brawling so old: If that be all, I hear no harm.”
PETRUCHIO TRAITS
Relationships with others
Petruchio generally gets on well with others, he is not too well known however his fathers well known name lives on in him.
Petruchio does not however, get on with those below him such as servants. He mocks them and abuses them with insults. “ you logger-headed unpolished grooms.
Petruchio begins to realise that the only way to change the way Katherine behaves is to treat her badly. Because of this during the first half of the play he is kind and endeavouring however in the second half he becomes nasty and cruel towards Katherine.
PETRUCHIO TRAITS
Petruchio comes to Padua Italy comes to Italy looking to settle down and find a wealthy wife so he can marry into wealth. “Come to live wealthily in Padua; If wealthy then happy in Padua.”
Petruchio then learns about a wealthy woman in need of a husband. He hears that she is evil and fierce however he craves the wealth so much that he does not care “ I know she is a irksome brawling scold; if that be all, I hear no harm.
He becomes obsessed before he has even met her. “ I will not sleep till I see her.”
HOW DOES PETRUCHIO CHANGE DURING THE COURSE OF THE PLAY.
Once Petruchio meets Katherine he is disappointed
that’s he will not marry him. He doesn’t take no as an answer however and he insists that she marry him.
Once they are married his personality changes completely as he attempts to tame her. He becomes angry easily and becomes worse then Katherine herself “ She ate nothing today, nor none shall eat. Last night she slept not, nor tonight shall she not.”
He realises that he must mentally torcher her to change the way she acts. “ this is the way to kill a wife with kindness.”
HOW DOES PETRUCHIO CHANGE DURING THE COURSE
OF THE PLAY.
By the of the play Petruchio has tamed Katherine successfully. Now that Katherine is behaving like a true wife he begins to love her for who she is rather then just putting up with her for the wealth involved. “ How fares my Kate?...Pluck up my spirits, look cheerfully upon me.” “Why, there's a wench, come on and kiss me, Kate. “
Everyone is now happy with Petruchio now that he has changed Katherine. BY the end Petruchio has gained the love and respect from his wife, he has successfully married into wealth, and he has gained respect for taming Katherine.
