They married and made their home on the island of Marstrand, outside Gotenborg. Mygrandmother Marion said on tape 1990, that Carl was a fisherman, maybe a captain. Henryand Agnes Pettersson (Peterson in the US) came to Maine 1903 in their teens, leavingSweden 29 July 1903 on the ship Rollo, destination Grimsby. Erik left Sweden 31 March1908 to Maine. Agnes stayed in Farmingdale Maine. We still have the large portraits ofAgnes' parents Carl and Johanna, that she brought with her from Sweden. Henry and Erikwent to Chicago and enlisted in WW I. Marie went direct from Sweden 22 Sept 1922 toChicago. I found relatives of Josef in Sweden and they also know nothing more about them.We also have photos of Erik and Henry. Karl & Johanna both had brown hair.I have many ancestors of these familes researched by SLC Swedish researcher Tim Vincentin the 1980s.My grandmother, Marion (Boudway) Rhoades (dau of Agnes), says that Henry, Agnes, and Erik came to Maineand were greeted here by their Uncle Julius Gross; Julius had a son Fred. Agnes did not know a word of English;she just had a name tag saying where she was going. Julius taught her (and the boys too, I presume) to speakEnglish by ignoring her if she spoke Swedish. They also had two aunts who came to Maine. Hedwig Gross b1857 m Gideon Pond. Emily Augusta Gross b 1867 came to the US in 1886 and married James Bailey. TheBaileys have continued contact with the Gross family in Sweden and wrote a book.

Mtdna branch is U2e1a. Haplogroup U2 arose in the Near East about 45,000 years ago. U2eis one of the oldest haplogroups in Europe. It appears to have reached there with some of thecontinent's first modern human settlers about 35,000 years ago, at a time when Neanderthalswere the only Europeans. By the time of the Neanderthals' extinction about 28,000 yearsago, haplogroup U2e was probably distributed across much of Europe. But today, thanks tothe subsequent arrival of many other haplogroups, it has become relatively rare. U2e reachesits highest levels in places like the town of Murlo, where many inhabitants are thought to bedescended from the pre-Roman Etruscan people. It is also relatively common among the Udmurts andMordvinians, who live in the Volga River drainage and Ural Mountain regions.

At the hospital when they opened him up, they found cancer and promptly closed him backup. He lived at home with Marion at 133 Northern Ave Farmingdale (83 after 911 changes), and his bed wasbrought downstairs to the living room until Marion just couldn't take care of him anymore and he went into anursing home. That house was purchased in the early 1930s; previous residence was next door at 131, where DotBoudway Rankin also lived. Frank's sister Arvilla Boudway Dill lived next door on the other side at 135.Frank/Gramp used to tell us kids Indian stories and sing the old Indian songs that his ancestors sang around thecampfire. Then Nana/Marion would say, "Dad, stop making up those stories, we're not Indian." He was quite acharacter and over 40 years later, I still really miss him.

MAINE SOCIAL section of Kennebec Journal: Rhodes-Boudway Gardiner, Dec 16 -Miss Marion Boudway and Roland Rhodes, both of this city, were married in Hallowell byRev Nutter Saturday evening at 7:15. They were attended by the bride's father FrankBoudway, and Mr Rhodes' mother. Intimate friends of the bride and bridegroom were present at the ceremony. The newlyweds will live at 117 Northern Avenue, with Mrs Boudway's father. Genetic tree: 5'2 1/2"; wt 130-150; brown hair/eyes; asthma, allergies, arthritis, bad back; cataracts. She lovedchocolate, but was allergic. Her son Roland took a 23&Me DNA test which identifies his maternal Mtdna line asU2e, which is therefore also Marion's through Peterson, Gross, Borjesson. Her daughter Lynda took the FullMtdna test at FTDNA, and was determined to be U2e2a1a. Haplogroup U2 arose in the Near East about 45,000years ago. U2e is one of the oldest haplogroups in Europe. It appears to have reached there with some of thecontinent's first modern human settlers about 35,000 years ago, at a time when Neanderthals were the onlyEuropeans. By the time of the Neanderthals' extinction about 28,000 years ago, haplogroup U2e was probablydistributed across much of Europe. But today, thanks to the subsequent arrival of many other haplogroups, it hasbecome relatively rare. U2e reaches its highest levels in places like the town of Murlo, where many inhabitantsare thought to be descended from the pre-Roman Etruscan people. It is also relatively common among theUdmurts and Mordvinians, who live in the Volga River drainage and Ural Mountain regions.

Marion married Roland Edison RHOADES [PEAVEY], son of George Emery PEAVEYand Grace Emma FLAGG, 14 Dec 1929 in Hallowell, Kennebec, ME. Roland was born 21 Feb1912 in Pittsfield, Somerset, ME and died 23 Nov 1997 in Gardiner, Kennebec, ME.

Y-DNA testing at FTDNA, corroborated by testing a cousin's Y and autosomal, determines that Grace's husband Roland Rhoades was not the father, a Mr Peavey was.Family photo comparisons of facial features helps to confirm. Further research now takesthis line back, but still looking for dna matches and family photos from this family toconfirm the match. In the spring of 1954 the family, Roland, Marion, dau Lynda and son Roland and family allmoved to Phoenix AZ where Ed Boudway said there were jobs. They lasted 3 monthsbefore homesickness got them and they moved back to Maine where all their friends andfamily were. An old photo album says they left Maine April 5 and arrived in Phoenix April 11; they left PhoenixJuly 22 and got home July 28, 1954. They lived at 3112 E Diamond St. The address on Google Earth in 2012

She visited and agroup family photo is on my Rhoades family webpage. His father died when he was less than 2 years old. Rolandwas named after Thomas Edison because his father had worked with and thought highly of him. Roland wasalso a member of the Freemasons, though I don't recall him ever mentioning it; The Maine Mason magazine justkept coming in the mail. He loved to eat and would have spaghetti eating contests with the Boudway side of thefamily (Butch Nuzzo). My grandfather Roland in a 1990 tape said that he went back and forth from his mother's to his grandmother'sand Uncle John's homes. Quit school at 14 to work. Lots of different schools. Thatwas a major news attraction; each hole had a giant theme, like a flying saucer large enough to walk through, thatairplane pilots said they used as a bearing for landing at the Rochester airport. It also had space creatures andplanets made from steel, chicken wire and mortar. His children always had summer jobs! He was also an EagleBoy Scout, Order of the Arrow; Scoutmaster in Gardiner ME and Salmon Falls NH; Cubmaster in EastRochester; and served on the vestry as Jr and Sr Warden of the Episcopal Church in Rochester. This is one reason why they dropped the price to build theirdatabase to a million users. His father's story about his g-grandmother (Whalen) being an Indian princess is inquestion. This test also showed 2.7% Neanderthal dna.
