“We’d like to let you know how glad we are that you are here.”

Glenn + Kimberly GundersonSenior Pastor909-629-5277 [email protected]

I’m so glad you’ve chosen to spend part of your day with us! Please see the map on the back of your program to help you navigate our campus. A nursery and family room (with a live video feed of the service) are available for young children. If you are a visitor with children in the nursery, you are given a personal pager that is used to alert you if you are needed in our nursery. For regular nursery attenders and children in our early childhood rooms, we use the digital pager on the southwest wall of our Worship Center. We’d like to let you know how glad we are that you are here. If you would like to fill out one of the Connect cards in the bookrack in front of you, please take it to one of our Guest Centers after the service (located at the north and south entrances to the Worship Center). As our guest, you will receive a free, guest gift bag including free coffee and a Krispy Kreme donut. I usually remain at the front of the Worship Center after each service. Please come by and introduce yourself; I would love to meet you! We also have a Starting Point class that meets periodically to introduce you to our church. We have an assortment of Adult Bible Studies and Next-Gen Ministries opportunities available to you. If you have any questions, please feel free to stop by the Information Center in the lobby. We are here to serve you! Pastor Glenn

Acts 20:24 “However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace.”

2 Timothy 4:7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

1 Corinthians 10:6, 11 Now these things occurred as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did. 11These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the culmination of the ages has come.

Strong Start!1. He was __________________ and ___________________.

2 Chronicles 14:2-10 Asa did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord his God. 3 He removed the foreign altars and the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. 4 He commanded Judah to seek the Lord, the God of their ancestors, and to obey his laws and commands. 5

He removed the high places and incense altars in every town in Judah, and the kingdom was at peace under him. 6 He built up the fortified cities of Judah, since the land was at peace. No one was at war with him during those years, for the Lord gave him rest. 7 “Let us build up these towns,” he said to Judah, “and put walls around them, with towers, gates and bars. The land is still ours, because we have

sought the Lord our God; we sought him and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered. 8 Asa had an army of three hundred thousand men from Judah, equipped with large shields and with spears, and two hundred and eighty thousand from Benjamin, armed with small shields and with bows. All these were brave fighting men. 9 Zerah the Cushite marched out against them with an army of thousands upon thousands and three hundred chariots, and came as far as Mareshah. 10 Asa went out to meet him, and they took up battle positions in the Valley of Zephathah near Mareshah.

2. He was _________________________ on God.

2 Chronicles 14:11-15 Then Asa called to the Lord his God and said, “Lord, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, Lord our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. Lord, you are our God; do not let mere mortals prevail against you.” 12 The Lord struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah. The Cushites fled, 13 and Asa and his army pursued them as far as Gerar. Such a great number of Cushites fell that they could not recover; they were crushed before the Lord and his forces. The men of Judah carried off a large amount of plunder. 14 They destroyed all the villages around Gerar, for the terror of the Lord had fallen on them. They looted all these villages, since there was much plunder there. 15 They also attacked the camps of the herders and carried off droves of sheep and goats and camels. Then they returned to Jerusalem.

Jeremiah 9:23-24 This is what the Lord says: “Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom

or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, 24 but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord.

3. He went tHe ___________ ___________ in seekinG tHe Lord.

2 Chronicles 15:1-15 The Spirit of God came on Azariah son of Oded. 2 He went out to meet Asa and said to him, “Listen to me, Asa and all Judah and Benjamin. The Lord is with you when you are with him. If you seek him, he will be found by you, but if you forsake him, he will forsake you. 3 For a long time Israel was without the true God, without a priest to teach and without the law. 4 But in their distress they turned to the Lord, the God of Israel, and sought him, and he was found by them. 5 In those days it was not safe to travel about, for all the inhabitants of the lands were in great turmoil. 6 One nation was being crushed by another and one city by another, because God was troubling them with every kind of distress. 7 But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.” 8 When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Azariah son of Oded the prophet, he took courage. He removed the detestable idols from the whole land of Judah and Benjamin and from the towns he had captured in the hills of Ephraim. He repaired the altar of the Lord that was in front of the portico of the Lord’s temple. 9 Then he assembled all Judah and Benjamin and the people from Ephraim, Manasseh and Simeon who had settled among them, for large numbers had come over to him from Israel when they saw that the Lord his God was with him. 10 They assembled at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of Asa’s reign. 11 At that time they sacrificed to the Lord seven hundred head of cattle and seven thousand sheep and goats from the plunder they had brought back. 12 They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their ancestors, with all their heart and soul. 13 All who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, were to be put to death, whether small or great, man or woman. 14 They took an oath to the Lord with loud acclamation, with shouting and with trumpets and horns. 15 All Judah rejoiced about the oath because they had sworn it wholeheartedly. They sought God eagerly, and he was found by them. So the Lord gave them rest on every side.

2 Chronicles 15:16-19 King Asa also deposed his grandmother Maakah from her position as queen mother, because she had made a repulsive image for the worship of Asherah. Asa cut it down, broke it up and burned it in the Kidron Valley. 17 Although he did not remove the high places from Israel, Asa’s heart was fully committed to the Lord all his life. 18 He brought into the temple of God the silver and gold and the articles that he and his father had dedicated. 19 There was no more war until the thirty-fifth year of Asa’s reign.

WeaK FiniSh!“Asa’s Last Years”

1. He depended on _______________

_______________ instead of on God.

2 Chronicles 16:1-6 In the thirty-sixth year of Asa’s reign Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah and fortified Ramah to prevent anyone from leaving or entering the territory of Asa king of Judah. 2 Asa then took the silver and gold out of the treasuries of the Lord’s temple and of his own palace and sent it to Ben-Hadad king of Aram, who was ruling in Damascus. 3 “Let there be a treaty between me and you,” he said, “as there was between my father and your father. See, I am sending you silver and gold. Now break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel so he will withdraw from me.” 4 Ben-Hadad agreed with King Asa and sent the commanders of his forces against the towns of Israel. They conquered Ijon, Dan, Abel Maim and all the store cities of Naphtali. 5 When Baasha heard this, he stopped building Ramah and abandoned his work. 6 Then King Asa brought all the men of Judah, and they carried away from Ramah the stones and timber Baasha had been using. With them he built up Geba and Mizpah.

2. He ________ tHe messenGer wHen confronted.

2 Chronicles 16:7-10 At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah and said to him: “Because you relied on the king of Aram and not on the Lord your God, the army of the king of Aram has escaped from your hand. 8 Were not the Cushites and Libyans a mighty army with great numbers of chariots and horsemen? Yet when you relied on the Lord, he delivered them into your hand. 9 For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. You have done a foolish thing, and from now on you will be at war.” 10 Asa was angry with the seer because of this; he was so enraged that he put him in prison. Proverbs 27:6 Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.

3. He took out His ___________ feeLinGs on otHer peopLe.

2 Chronicles 16:10 At the same time Asa brutally oppressed some of the people.

4. He resisted tHe __________ and tHe __________!

2 Chronicles 16:11-14 The events of Asa’s reign, from beginning to end, are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. 12 In the thirty-ninth year of his reign Asa was afflicted with a disease in his feet. Though his disease was severe, even in his illness he did not seek help from the Lord, but only from the physicians. 13 Then in the forty-first year of his reign Asa died and rested with his ancestors. 14 They buried him in the tomb that he had cut out for himself in the City of David. They laid him on a bier covered with spices and various blended perfumes, and they made a huge fire in his honor.

Prayer for the Persecuted ChurchNancy x3014, [email protected] Today, we pray for 100 million Christians around the world who are persecuted, imprisoned, even killed for their faith in Jesus Christ. Since the day Jesus laid down His life for us, 43 million Christian have become martyrs. The witness of the persecuted church has a unique power to reach lives and communities that would otherwise never be open to the Gospel. Please pray that persecuted believers would:• Know how much God loves them• Know how to share the Gospel despite any fears• Have access to a Bible• Have courage to remain in their homeland • Be surrounded by a loving “family” of believers even as their own family rejects them• Have good jobs and safe places to live• Be encouraged knowing we are praying for them

Honoring our VeteransNancy x3014, [email protected] Tomorrow is a day set aside for us to honor and remember the veterans who have served so faithfully and courageously to protect the American people and the ideals and values that make us proud to live here. Thank you, veterans and soldiers, for dedicating a portion of your life to the protection of our country. Because of you, we continue to enjoy the freedom to: worship, speak, write, assemble and protest, defend ourselves, receive justice and fair trials, be secure in our homes, have equal protection of the law, vote, and choose our representatives. Please pray for those who presently serve in the military.

how to become a follower of Jesus > 3 simple steps

1. Admit your condition before God.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

2. Believe that Jesus Christ is God’s only solution to your condition.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

3. Choose to follow Christ as your Savior and Lord.

“I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged; but has crossed over from death to life.” John 5:24

Dear God, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to earth. I believe Jesus was who He said He was and proved it by rising from death. I want to discover and begin following Your plan and purpose for my life. I want to get to know You personally. Thank You, Jesus Christ, for dying for me and forgiving all my sins. I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for Your free gift of eternal life.

If you have chosen to become a follower of Jesus, today or many years ago, Jesus asks you to express your commitment to Him by being baptized. We would be excited to baptize you as soon as you are ready. If you would like to find out more about being baptized, just mark Baptism on a Connect card or let someone know at one of our Guest Centers in the lobby.
