Color Craze 5k Fun Run! Friday, August 23rd Kiefer Park

(The lawn next to Port Huron City Hall) Come join us in this family friendly run that will leave you with plenty of colorful memories! Be sure to wear your white & let your true colors shine!! Walk or run with us through our color trail! Get doused with color dust at different stations throughout the course! This run is fun for ALL ages & abilities! This 2 hours a day program is great for the novice performer, a student who has some experience in theatre and who is looking for more opportunities to be on stage. Every day will consist of working towards an overall production that they will perform on the Friday evening as a finale. Students will all be cast in a part to play, given lines to memorize, props to work with and have the opportunity to design their own costumes. This is a great chance for them to be in the spotlight and make some new friends along the way! Instructor Renee Barr.

Designed for the more experienced performer, who is looking for in depth character development, increased line memorization, work on improvisation and musical/theatre dance. The 2 hours per day will also be spent working on a final production to be performed at the conclusion of the class on Friday evening. GOTTA DANCE? Then come join the amazingly talented staff of Showcase America Unlimited for this 2-day dance convention spectacular for St. Clair County! All ages from 1st grade to college! You will get the chance to learn jazz routines, hip hop routines, contemporary/lyrical routines, pom routines and so much more. Learn the latest moves from professional dancers, college dancers, and the Midwest's best choreographers. Last summer's camps were met with rave reviews!

SOAR in Reading & Math Mondays & Wednesdays at Palmer Park Dates: July 8, 10, 15, 17, 22, 24, 29, 31 I: Grades Completed 1st & 2nd 9:00am – 10:15 am II: Grades Completed 3rd & 4th 10:30am – 11:45 am

Students will work with certified teachers utilizing online curriculum programs that are research based and aligned to the Common Core Standards, to build their reading and math skills. 'Read Live', the reading portion of the program, is designed to improve reading fluency and comprehension. The math portion, 'DreamBox', uses a game format, to foster success in mathematical concepts. *Sponsored by Foundations Literacy Project, a partnership between HIS Life Foundation and the Stebbins Family Foundation (Partial scholarships available) Must register by June 28th.

Kids Basic Drawing in the Park Tuesdays at Fort Gratiot Lighthouse (near Conger Beach) Grades: 1st – 5th 9:30am – 11:00am

Join us for this new drawing class where children will learn how to draw the Light Tower, buildings and nature around us “en plein aire”. Students will develop their observation and realistic drawing skills, learn about perspective, shading, shadowing and highlighting techniques. Students will be introduced to new tools and techniques with ordinary items. We will meet at the Fort Gratiot Light Station Park under the picnic shelter. In this fun & unique art class, children will learn how to handle brushes and paint, how to draw and then paint their subject “en plein aire” on the park grounds. We will meet at the Fort Gratiot Light Station under the picnic shelter (two blocks from Palmer Park). All painting supplies will be provided, students should wear “play clothes” as we will be sitting on the ground, working with real artist paints (sometimes they stain). Try this sampler out to find out what interests you the most! In this introductory class you will try five different media to discover what you like. This class gives students an opportunity to try drawing with graphite pencil in a realistic manner, to try drawing realistically with color pencil, to try a paper with sculpture with mobiles and stabiles, to work with ink and pencil to design patterns and our final media paper mosaic. Must register by June 26th.

Gears & Gadgets Monday – Thursday at Palmer Park 9:00am – 12:00pm Dates: July 8, 9, 10, 11

Students will build projects using gears and motors with unique LEGO kits through the All About Learning concepts of basic engineering principles, gears and gear ratios, simple machines, forces in motion, problem solving and communication skills.

Students will use the All About Learning unique LEGO kits to build a variety of battling machines. This is a class of exploration, problem solving, and risk taking with a goal of learning experimenting with how machines work and compete.

Grades Completed: 4th–8th Fee: Resident $95, Non-Resident $105 Genuine Beauty Workshop for Girls Thursdays at Palmer Park 9:15am – 11:30am Dates: July 18, 25, August 1, 8

This interactive, fun, workshop uses hands-on activities and music to strengthen each participant with the knowledge that we are all unique. 4-part workshop series to build the self-confidence in girls entering 4th-7th grades. Workshop includes workbook, activities, poster, and t-shirt. Must register by July 11th.

Learn how to communicate in a new way! By the end of this course students will be able to exchange basic information and engage in a basic conversation utilizing sign language. They will also be able to understand the principles of signing music! No transportation is provided to away meets, but car pools are organized with other parents. Home meets start at 1 pm. Away meets start at 9am. If you feel your child could use more one on one time with a swim instructor or coach, then private lessions are for you! All ages and abilities welcome, we will discuss personal goals you would like for your child and customize the lesson to their individual needs! Private sessions allow students to progress at their own pace and maximize their learning experience. All private sessions will take place during open swim hours from 1:00-6:00pm daily. Private lessons are offered at both Court Street and Sanborn Pools.

Fee per 30 minute session: Resident $10, Non-Resident $20

Snorkeling Sanborn Pool Friday, June 28th 5:30pm – 6:30pm

This snorkeling course is designed to give students the necessary skills to safely snorkel without the direction of an instructor. Learn proper breathing and clearing, BCD snorkel vest, surface dives, hand signals, entries and exits, and much more.

Ages: 7 & Older Fee: Resident $20, Non-Resident $30 Scuba Discovery Program Sanborn Pool Tuesday, July 9th 5:30pm – 6:30pm

TRY scuba!! Come see if scuba is for you. An instructor from DIVE INN Watersports will bring equipment and give prospective students an introduction to scuba diving in a controlled environment under the direct supervision of an insured instructor. Anyone wanting to take the Scuba Certification Course can apply the price of this class to the certification class.

Ages: 7 & Older Fee: Resident $30, Non-Resident $40 Open Water Scuba Diver Course Sanborn Pool Dates: July 16, 17, 18, 19 5:30pm – 7:30pm

DIVE INN Watersports offers the finest scuba course available anywhere. You’ll meet for approximately 20 hours of class and pool instruction before doing you open water dives needed for certification. You’ll receive a book package which includes your textbook, workbook, record folder, and video.

Students between the ages of 10 to 14 may obtain a Restricted Scuba Diver Certification which means they must dive under the direct supervision of a parent, guardian, or other active certified diver. Upon reaching the age of 15, a Restricted Scuba Diver can upgrade to an Open Water Scuba Diver certification and participate in all levels of training offered by SDI.

Students must complete 4 open water dives with an instructor demonstrating mature and sound judgment concerning dive planning and execution. Upon successful completion of both the classroom and open water training, you will receive your Open Water Certification card.

Ages: 10 & Older Fee: Resident $150, Non-Resident $175

Students must also purchase books at DIVE INN Watersports prior to class. Students must complete 4 open dives with instructor for $150.00 to receive their certifications.
