THE UNIVERSITY AT A GLANCE

The University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, an autonomous body came into existence

on 6-6-1963 and celebrated its Golden Jubilee during 2013-14. The mission of the University

is to achieve excellence in teaching, research and extension services related to agriculture

and allied sciences. The University endeavors to keep pace with new frontiers of science

and to be scientifically and technically competent. In this context, the University of Agricultural

Sciences Bangalore, is strongly committed to absorbing newer paradigms in science and

technology and ensure their dissemination to the farming community of the state and the

country.

The University, in addition to the main campus, GKVK at Bangalore, has colleges in three

teaching campuses at Chintamani, Mandya and Hassan, offering six degree programmes

and diplomas in five disciplines in agriculture and allied subjects, Postgraduate programmes

in 21 disciplines at Master’s level, including MBA (Agri-business Management) and in 14

disciplines at Ph.D. level. Research infrastructure consists of 11 Research Stations of which

two are Zonal Agricultural Research Stations (ZARS). The University provides extension

services through a range of extension education units such as Krishi Vignana Kendras,

Farmers Training Institute, Staff Training Unit, Agricultural Technology Information Centre

and Communication Centre.

UASB also offers several diploma courses viz., one year diploma in Baking Technology,

Diploma in Agricultural Extension Service for Input Dealers (DAESI), Diploma in Sericulture,

Post Graduate Certificate Course on Biosafety in plant Biotechnology and a two year Diploma

course in Agriculture.

UASB has been among the top universities in the country in agriculture; has been twice

recognized with the prestigious Sardar Patel Outstanding ICAR Institute Award; garnered

second position in ICAR-JRF Examination-2013. UASB students have excelled at all India

Inter Agri-University Sports and Games meet and Agri Uni Fest-2014.

UAS Bangalore has a student’s placement-cum-counseling cell since 2004-05 which has

facilitated jobs for over 750 graduates in leading public and private organizations/institutions/

companies and MNC’s.

1.1 ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO DOCTORAL DEGREE PROGRAMME

● A Master’s degree in the concerned subject or an equivalent qualification from Agricultural/Deemed Universities/Institutes recognized by ICAR, New Delhi in terms of equivalent course duration, with CGPA of 2.50/4.00 or OGPA of7.00/10.00 or its equivalent. In case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Cat-I, the minimum CGPA required is 2.00/4.00or OGPA of 6.00/10.00 to seek admission.

● Candidates who were admitted previously to doctoral degree programmes and have completed 75 per cent of theapproved course work and the qualifying examination in their previous admission and have secured a minimum CGPAof 7.00/10.00 are eligible for re-admission.

● The candidates who have studied under Trimester system and are seeking admission for PhD Programmes are requiredto compulsorily submit the equivalent percentage certificate (Masters degree) obtained from their respectiveUniversities/Institutions.

● Domicile requirement is not applicable for candidates of other states seeking admission to Ph.D. programmes.

● Provision is also made to admit teachers / officers / scientists of UAS(B) / other Universities / Institutions / State /Central Government and recognized autonomous institutions subject to conditions.

● All eligible candidates seeking admission to Ph.D. degree programme, including candidates with or without ICAR /CSIR/UGC/DBT or any other fellowships, and candidates from State/Central Government and autonomous institutionsshall apply for only one subject and are required to appear for written entrance examination of 90 marks in theconcerned subject and secure a minimum of 40 per cent ( 35 per cent in case of SC/ST & Cat-I ) to qualify in the entranceexamination.

● Those candidates who do not secure minimum qualifying marks would not be considered. Candidate seeking re-admission are also required to appear for written entrance examination. However, securing minimum marks prescribedis not applicable.

1.2 MODE OF ADMISSION

Merit will be determined by assigning weightage of 50% to academic performance, 45% to written entrance examinationand remaining 5% for sports / cultural / NSS / higher OGPA / Research publications / ICAR / CSIR / UGC / DBT fellowship. Outof these (as at Table 1 and Annexure - I) candidates should secure a minimum of 50% (35% in case of SC/ST & Cat-I) to beeligible for admission / re-admission.

There will be no counselling for Doctoral degree programme. However the P.G. Admission Committee, will allot seats as perseat matrix based on merit and reservation policy in force.

The seats unfilled if any under categories due to non-availability of eligible candidates will be filled by transfering suchseats to the General Merit category in the subject concerned and allotted based on the merit.

The list of selected candidates will be uploaded on to the university website for information of the applicants. The candidatesare advised to report and register for the course on or before the specified date along with the original documents andpaying the prescribed fee.

2.1 ELIGIBILITY CONDITIONS FOR ADMISSION TO MASTERS’ DEGREE PROGRAMMES

1. Candidates seeking admission to Masters’ degree programmes should possess eligible Bachelors’ degree from

Agriculture/Deemed Universities /Institutes recognized by ICAR in terms of equivalent course duration of four years

(10+2+4 year’s pattern) with a minimum CGPA of 2.25/4.00 or OGPA of 6.50/10.00 or its equivalent. In case of SC/ST/

Cat-I, the minimum CGPA required is 2.00/4.00 or OGPA of 6.00/10.00 to seek admission to Masters’ degree programmes.

2. Candidate should have studied for a minimum period of seven academic years in any educational institution in Karnataka

State any time up to bachelor degree as on 1 st July 2014 as domicile requirement.

3. Candidates who were admitted previously to Masters’ degree programmes and have completed 75 per cent of the

approved course work and the qualifying examination during the previous admission and who have obtained a minimum

OGPA of 7.00 are eligible for re-admission.

4. The candidates who have studied under Trimester system seeking admission to Master’s degree Programmes are

compulsorily required to submit certificate of equivalent percentage (for Bachelor’s degree) obtained from their

respective University / Institution.

5. Candidates who have qualified in ICAR (JRF) exam in a particular subject with or wihout fellowship shall apply for that

particular subject only and should invariably appear for entrance examination of that group.

6. Eligible candidate shall apply for only one Group of his/her choice from among Group-A to G for Master’s degree and is

required to appear for Written entrance examination of 180 marks covering all the subjects included in that group and

This is to computeweightage for activities at (iii) and to determine the merit of the eligible candidate for his/her claim to thecategory under 3(iii) .

minimum of 50% (35 per cent in case of SC/ST &Cat-I) to be eligible for admission / re-admission .

2.2 MODE OF ADMISSION

A common inter se merit list for each group of subjects will be prepared. The admission to Masters ‘Degree Programmes is

facilitated through counselling-cum-admission on specified dates (first round). The admission committee will allot seats

subject-wise in each group on the date of counselling, based on the merit and reservation policy of State Government

following the rotation system as per the details indicated in the matrix furnished in Annexure-III of this Prospectus. The

candidates are advised to attend the counselling-cum-admission with original documents and the requisite DD drawn in

favour of Comptroller, UAS, GKVK, Bangalore for the prescribed fee as applicable (refer fee structure).

Further, the unfilled seats if any will be filled through casual round counseling-cum-admission on specified dates (refer

schedule of events provided in this prospectus page 15)

2.4 SEAT MATRIX FOR MASTERS’ DEGREE PROGRAMME

The seat matrix for Masters Degree Programme subjectwise, categorywise and campuswise is provided in the annexure III

3.0. MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION (AGRI. BUSINESS MANAGEMENT) DEGREE PROGRAMMES

The University offers the Master of Business Administration (ABM) at GKVK, Bangalore only.

1. Candidates seeking admission for MBA(ABM) should apply separately in the prescribed application form only2. Candidate should have studied for a minimum period of seven academic years in any educational institution in Karnataka State

any time up to bachelor degree as on 1 st July 2014 as domicile requirement3. Candidates seeking admission to MBA (ABM) programme in the University shall possess eligible Bachelors degree (A Bachelor’s

degree in Agriculture/Horticulture/ Sericulture/ Forestry/ Agricultural Biotechnology/ B.Tech. (Food Science &Tech.)/B.Tech.(Agri.Engg.)/Veterinary & Animal Sciences from Agricultural/Horticultural/Veterinary Universities/Deemed University / Institutionrecognized by ICAR, New Delhi) with a minimum CGPA of 2.25 / 4.00 or OGPA of 6.50 /10.00. In case of SC/ST/Cat-I, the minimumCGPA required is 2.00/ 4.00 or OGPA of 6.00 /10.00 to seek admission to MBA (ABM).

4. The candidate who have studied under Trimester system seeking admission to MBA programme is required to compulsorilysubmit the certificate of equivalent percentage for Bachelor’s degree obtained from their respective University/Institution.

5. Eligible candidates are required to appear for a Written entrance examination for 100 marks, which includes knowledge onAgricultural Technology (KAT) & Management Aptitude Test (MAT) and secure a minimum of 40% ( 35 per cent in case of SC/ST/Cat-I) to qualify for Group Discussion & Interview.

6. Merit will be determined by assigning 50% weightage to academic performance, 50% to written entrance examination, groupdiscussion and Interview. In order to determine merit for sports & games /cultural/NSS, 5 marks is alloted by reducing the 150marks of 2,3 & 4 of table 3 to 45%. These, candidate should secure a minimum of 50% (35 per cent in case of SC/ST &Cat-I) tobe eligible for admission.

Merit will be determined by assigning 50% weightage to academic performance, 50% to written entrance examination, group discussion &Interview. In oder to determine merit for sports & games/cultural/NSS, 5 marks is alloted as in table-3. These, candidates should securea minimum of 50% (35 per cent incase of SC/ST & Cat-I) to become eligible for admission.There will be no counseling for MBA(ABM) Programme. A common merit list will be prepared and notified. The admission committee willallot the seats based on the merit and reservation policy in force. The unfilled seats if any will be allotted as per the merit list.The selection list will be uploaded on to the University Website for information of applicants. The candidates are advised to report andregister for the course on or before the specified date for the pupose along with the original documents and paying the prescribed fee.

4.0 DOMICILE REQUIREMENT (ONLY FOR ADMISSION TO MASTER’

In addition to the prescribed qualification, candidate seeking admission to Master’s degree should be a citizen of Indiaand must have studied in any educational institution in Karnataka state for a minimum period of seven academic yearsat any time upto Bachelor’s degree as on 1st July 2014.

Exceptions to domicle requirement for candidate seeking admission to Masters Degree Programmeincluding MBA (ABM)

The provision prescribed above shall not apply in case of candidates who fulfill any one of the following criteria, providedappropriate certificates of proof are furnished in support of their claim. In what follows, ‘children’ means only ‘naturalborn’ children and not ‘adopted’ children.

i. Children of Defence personnel, Central Government employees and employees of statutory Corporations set up,owned or controlled by the Central Government or Karnataka State Government serving in the state both on thedate of making the application and during the period of atleast 12 months, immediately before such date.

ii. Children of State Government employees including children of members of the All India Services borne on theKarnataka State Cadre who:

a) are serving or have served outside the State of Karnataka on deputation during the relevant period.

b) are in the service of the State of Karnataka on the date of making the application or have retired from theservice prior to the date of making the application.

iii. Children of working or retired employees of Central or State Government or joint-sector undertaking whereemployees:

a) had declared to the Central Government any place in Karnataka state as the home town.

b) had either studied in any educational institution in the state of Karnataka, run or recognised by the Governmentof Karnataka, for not less than seven years at any time prior to the last date fixed for receipt of application orhas passed Bachelor’s degree in Karnataka.

iv. Children of serving defence personnel or Ex-Servicemen whose home address at the time of joining the defenceservice was in Karnataka. Proof of such domicile should be produced either by obtaining the extract from theRecord Office of the Defence Units or a Certificate from Rajya Zilla Sainik Board.

Note : Candidates claiming seat under exception clause as above should produce relevant documents in support of theirclaim.

Doctoral Degree : A minimum period of three academic years (6 Semesters) shall be required for completion of the Ph.D.degree programme.

Master’s Degree including MBA(ABM) : A minimum of two academic years (4 Semesters) shall be required for thecompletion of course work, research, thesis / Project report preparation and examinations leading to the award ofMaster’s degree.

System of Education & Medium of Instruction : All the Masters & Doctoral degree Programmes are taught undersemester system in English medium only

1) Reservation of seats in favour of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other BackwardClasses will be in accordance with the reservation policy stipulated by the Government of Karnataka from time totime. (G.O. No. SWD 225 BCA 2000 dt. 30th March, 2002; new comprehensive creamy layer policy).

2) If seats belonging to any of the Categories referred to above are not filled due to non-availability of eligiblecandidates, the reservation to that extent shall stand reduced and shall be transferred to the General Meritcategory as per the G.O. No. ED/47/TEC/97 dated 3.5.97.

A provision has been made to admit ten candidates for Doctoral degree programmes, with a restriction of only oneseat per subject on merit basis i.e., on the total marks obtained as per the admission procedure. Out of ten seats, fiveseats are reserved for UAS (B) teachers and remaining five for candidates from other Universities/Institutes/Departments of Central /State Government. These candidates have to seek admission along with other candidates,but a separate merit list will be prepared for them and their admission will be considered over and above the seatmatrix. These candidates shall compulsorily forward their filled in application through their employer within the lastdate prescribed, failing which their application shall not be considered. Further, such candidates if admitted shallalso submit their deputation order/relieving order compulsorily at the time of reporting for the Ph.D. programme.

C. Reservation for Physically Challenged

Three per cent of the seats are reserved for physically challenged candidates over and above the prescribed seatmatrix for M.Sc. degree programmes including MBA (ABM) and Doctoral degree programme. A maximum of oneseat per subject in the degree programme will be considered for allotment. Applicant should enclose copy of themedical certificate issued by the competent authority and produce the original at the time of CCA / admission.

D. Sports and other activities

Five seats (2 for Sports and Games; 2 for Cultural activities; One for NSS for Masters Degree Programme includingMBA [ABM]) are reserved for students who have excelled in Sports / Games / Cultural and NSS activities during theirUndergraduate programme . A maximum of one seat per Degree Programme will be considered for allotment, ifeligible candidates are available. This shall be applicable only for Master’s degree programme including MBA (ABM).The seats reserved shall be over and above the approved intake.

1. Eight percent of the available seats in every course of study provided in a State-wide University or a statewideeducational Institution referred to in the Second Schedule be allocated among the local candidates of the Hyderabad-Karnataka region.

2. While determining under sub-paragraph (1) the number of seats to be reserved in favour of the local persons, anyfraction of a seat shall be counted as one. Provided that there shall be at least one unreserved seat.

3. While allocating under sub-paragraph (1) the reserved seats among the local persons in relation to the local area,fractions of a seat shall be adjusted by counting the greatest fractions as one and, if necessary, also the greater of theremaining fractions as another, and where the fraction to be so counted cannot be selected by reason of the fractionsbeing equal, the selection shall be by lot. Provided that there shall be at least one seat allocated for the local personsin respect of the local area.

Filling of reserved vacant seats : If a local person is not available to fill any seats reserved or allocated in favour oflocal person in respect of that local area, such seat shall be filled as if it has not been reserved.

Local Area : The part of the State called the Hyderabad-Karnataka Region comprising the districts of Bidar, Gulberga,Yadgir, Raichur, Koppal and Bellary shall be regarded as the local area for the purpose of admission to University andto any other educational institution including vocational training institutions (other than State wide University orState-wide educational institution), which is subject to the control of the State Government and is situated in thatRegion. Hyderabad – Karnataka region students should produce the relevant document from the competent authority.( vide GO Order No. DPAR 06 PLX 2012, Bangalore dated.06.11.2013)

Foreign nationals eligible to seek admission to PG programmes at UAS, GKVK, Bangalore are required to submit theApplication (CV/ Biodata & attested copies of educational documents & Passport) through Secretary, DARE, KrishiBhavan, New Delhi - 110 011, INDIA / Asst. Director General, HRD - I, ICAR, Krishi Anusandhan Bhavan, New Delhi - 110012, INDIA, through the respective Embassy or The Government concerned of the Country, to the Registrar, UAS,Bangalore. They are required to pay US Dollars ($) 4400 per annum as Institutional Economic Fees apart from theprescribed Fee for the semesters and group health insurance. However, candidates of SAARC countries are to pay USDollars ($) 2200 per annum as Institutional Economic fee besides prescribed fee.

Masters’ Degree: Applicant possessing Bachelor Degree in the concerned subject of Agricultural Sciences/ Technology iseligible to seek admission to M.Sc. degree with a minimum CGPA of 6.50 out of 10.00 or its equivalent in Bachelor’sdegree. Such candidates shall also enclose certificate of English language proficiency like ELTS/TOFEL.

Doctoral Degree: Applicant possessing Master’s Degree in the concerned subject of Agricultural Sciences/ Technology(with course work and Research at Master’s level) pattern is eligible to seek admission to Doctoral degree with aminimum CGPA of 7.00 out of 10.00 or its equivalent in Master’s Degree. Such candidates shall also enclose certificateof English language proficiency like ELTS/TOFEL.

✟✟✟✟✟ ADMISSION PROCEDURE: The admission committee so constituted will prepare the list of eligible candidates basedon merit considering the eligibility requirements prescribed for admission and recommend to the University fornecessary approval and upon approval the Registrar will notify the same and communicate to the concerned.

✟✟✟✟✟ RESERVATION OF SEATS: The seats shall be reserved in favour of NRI/Children’s of NRI/ NRI sponsored candidate wellwithin the existing 10% over and above the intake of the respective Degree programmes not exceeding two studentsper department. Admission will be made as per the recommendations of the Admission committee based on themerit of the candidate in the given discipline.

✟✟✟✟✟ UNDERTAKING

1. The sponsored candidate is required to give an undertaking to the effect that he or she would pay the fee regularly tothe University. In the event of non-payment of fee, the student shall be terminated from the studies.

2. In addition, the sponsorer shall also give an undertaking that, he/she has sponsored the candidate and will pay feeregularly till the candidate complete the course.

✟✟✟✟✟ FEE PAYABLE

1. NRI sponsored candidate shall pay US $ 8000 for Master’s Degree and US $10000 for Ph.D. Degree Programme peryear as Institutional Infrastructure fee along with regular semester fee prescribed by the University from time totime.

2. He / She shall pay Insurance premium as prescribed from time to time. If the candidate is required to stay for morethan the prescribed duration to complete the degree, he/she shall pay the Institutional Infrastructure fee and otherfee/charges as prescribed above in each year. The candidate will be exempted from payment of InstitutionalInfrastructure fee if he/she is expected to complete the degree programme within one semester after the prescribedduration to complete the degree, i.e. the first semester of the following Academic year.

The provisionally selected candidates for Doctoral Degree & MBA (ABM) Programme shall pay the prescribed fee on orbefore the last date specified and seek admission. Payment shall be made through Demand Draft (DD) Drawn in favourof Comptroller, UAS, Bangalore.

The candidates attending counseling-cum-admission for Masters’ degree programmes shall submit a demand draft (DD)drawn in favour of Comptroller, UAS, GKVK, Bangalore, for the prescribed fee as applicable for the programme and

category. All the candidates who have been allotted seats for masters degree programmes shall seek admission by payingthe prescribed fee immediately after the counseling-cum-admission.

The candidates admitted to Doctoral/Masters ‘degree and MBA (ABM) programme after paying the prescribed fee shall

report to the concerned Head of the Department for advice on the courses that are to be registered and complete the

process of registration on or before the date of commencement of the I Semester of 2013-14 so as to place them on the

rolls of the University.

1. University Resident Merit Scholarship (URMS) shall be awarded to candidates in each of the subjects under the

Master’s (Rs. 1,600/- per month) as well as Doctoral Degree Programmes (Rs. 2,400/- per month) during each

academic year, and will be restricted to those students who have graduated from the farm Universities in

Karnataka.One scholarship shall be awarded for every ten students or part thereof. Students from other state

agricultural universities / state departments and candidates who have been sponsored or drawing salary are not

eligible for URMS.

2. All eligible SC / ST students are required to compulsorily apply for Government of India scholarship and students

of other categories who are eligible are required to apply for fee concession.

The GKVK campus has separate hostels for Boys, Girls & Internatoinal Students. Hostel facilities shall be provided at

specified campuses to the extent available on first-cum-first served basis. The students who desire to reside in the hostel

shall obtain application form from the concerned hostel on the day of admission. Duly filled-in application form for

admission to the hostel, should be submitted to the concerned Hostel Warden well in advance for allotment of

accommodation. The hostel rooms are provided with a cot and a working table. Boarder should make arrangement for

bedding. On allotment of a room, candidate should pay the prescribed fee and seek admission.

1) At the time of admission each boarder shall have to pay one time mess deposit as indicated below

which shall be refunded to the boarder while leaving the Hostel subject to payment of the dues.

● The Written Test shall cover the syllabi of all subject(s) included in the respective subject - groups.

at their own cost.

● The candidates are required to be present at the venue of Written Entrance Examination / CCA / Group discussion

and Interview (MBA) one hour before the start.

● Admission to Written Entrance Examination is subject to fulfillment of eligibility conditions prescribed, and upon

● Separate intimation will not be sent for Written Entrance Examination / CCA (PG programmes) / Group Discussion

and interview (MBA).

● Production of all original transcripts or marks cards and all relevant certificates at the time of admission / group

discussion / interview (MBA) for verification is mandatory.

● Produce Demand Draft (D.D.) drawn in favour of the Comptroller, U.A.S., Bangalore, payable at Bangalore as

indicated in the fee structure as applicable to the candidate, besides Rs. 300/- payable in cash towards Group

Health Insurance, at the time of Counselling (for Master’s) and Admission (for Ph.D.) along with two latest passport

size photographs.

● Students belonging to SC/ST/ Category-I / IIA / IIB / IIIA / IIIB who are eligible for concession are required to pay fees

which are not reimbursable by the Government as per G.O. No. SWL 229 BCA 80 dated 16-12-1982 and as amended

from time to time. The details of the concession to various categories are mentioned in the ‘Instructions to

Candidates’. Candidates must produce two photocopies of caste certificate to claim concession of fees.

● All fees indicated in the prospectus are subject to change with the approval of the University.

Candidates may retain sufficient Photocopies of their category / income certificate since the originals will be

retained by the University at the time of admission.

● Fee received from a PG student choosing a subject shall be reappropriated in case the student is provided admission

to any other subject of his/her choice in the University in case of master degree programmes.

● Caution money is refundable only after successful completion of the Postgraduate degree programme for which a

candidate is admitted or on discontinuing the Postgraduate degree programme on his / her request. The student

● Fees once paid by the student is non-refundable except Caution money deposit.

● The selected candidates are required to join the course on the stipulated date for Masters’/ Ph.D. /MBA (ABM)

by paying the prescribed fees and submitting all original certificates and also register for the courses at the respective

Colleges.

● Failure to appear for Written Entrance Examination / Admission process and payment of prescribed fees will result

in forfeiting claim for admission.

● The admission is subject to fulfilment of all the eligibility conditions prescribed as per the UAS (B) rules / statutes /

Government orders.

● Any change in the schedule of events will be announced on the University website and in leading News papers as a

News Brief. No separate intimation will be sent to the candidates.
