Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management, Shillong (IIMS)
was established in the year 2007 by the Government of India,
Ministry of Human Resource Development, with the objective
of offering world class management education and research
in the country. The vision is to become an internationally
recognized management Institute with a global outlook
grounded in Indian values. Over the years, IIM Shillong has
made great strides towards fulfilling its vision. The Institute is
recognized as one of the premier management institutes in
India. As we move forward, our emphasis is to create young,
vibrant and dedicated managers and thought leaders,
intellectually and emotionally competent to meet the
challenges of the organization, both at national and
international level.
Keeping the above objective in mind, IIM Shillong and the
Ocean University of China (OUC) have joined hands to
design the first ever Sino-India 14 months full time Executive
Post Graduate Program (PGPEx) for executives to gain first-
hand knowledge of two emerging economies. PGPEx is an
International Program open to all students from across the
globe. The programme is designed for young executives
across areas and geographies. The objective of this
programme is to provide the students with an understanding
of the corporate business practices and equipping them with
necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude for decision making
in a complex business environment. The first batch of PGPEx
Program commenced on 15th June 2012 and the program
was successfully completed on 30th April 2013.

schools in India. The first ever Sino-
India management program for
executives, PGPEx was a step
addition in this direction that aims at
developing developing global leaders of the future. We feel proud to

participants of a program that stands committed to provide a

rapidly changing emerging economic landscapes. The
curriculum emphasizes on global diversity with a focus on Sino-
India business management to cater to the needs of today's
culturally sensitive business environment. By working closely
with the batch as a coordinator, I can assure you that the
current batch has come out with the right blend of business
acumen, leadership skills, and strong ethics to work in a
transcultural environment and to take their respective

The PGP for Executives-MBIC (Managing Business in India
and China) is designed with an emphasis on understanding the
culture and the way of doing business in China and India. The
participants have a balanced exposure to business cultures in
India for a fair amount of time, topped up with world class
academic and practical exposure in China. Through rigorous
study sessions, academic interactions, practical learnings from
internships and industrial visits in India and China, the
dreamers are transformed into global leaders well-equipped to
implement the best practices required for conducting trans-
national businesses in this ever-changing environment and I

IIM Shillong IIM Shillong has been set up with a vision of expansion and mobilization of facilities for offering good quality
management education and research in the North Eastern region of India. The decision of coming up with an Indian
Institute of Management in the North East was unanimously taken by the Union Minister of Human Resource
Development along with the Chief Ministers of the North Eastern States in the Review Meeting held at Shillong during
June 2004. Shillong was drafted as the permanent location for the institute after consultation between the Ministry of
Development of North Eastern Region (DONER) and the Chief Ministers of States of the region.
India's North East Region with a distinct geophysical
structure and an urgent requirement for socio-economic
development offers a challenging opportunity to set up
an institute for pursuing higher learning. Situated in the
gorgeous backdrop of hilly terrains and a persistent
agricultural economy, India's North Eastern Region
comprises of eight states.
The states of this region lies at the frontier of the Indian
Territory with considerable foreign interaction in trade,
economic, cultural and political matters. Resplendent
natural resources and cultural diversities call for special
attention and in-depth understanding of the socio-
political dynamics of the region. It is imperative to
acquire knowledge about the local people to facilitate
sustainable and equitable development of the region.

PGPExecutive The Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management (RGIIM) offers one year program Post Graduate Program for
Executives - Managing Business in India and China. The Executive Management Program aims at equipping the
participants with adequate knowledge and business skills for managing businesses in India and China, and also
enabling them to operate at strategic levels with a global outlook by synergizing all functional areas of Management.
Moreover the participants are trained in Chinese language, Chinese Culture and Chinese tradition understanding
which is important for doing business in China.

China Module Emergence of India and China as major forces in the contemporary global economy is one of the most significant
development of the past quarter century. Managers not only require the functional knowledge about management but
also need cross-cultural acumen to conduct business in a highly integrated world. In this endeavor the Rajiv Gandhi
Indian Institute of Management Shillong (IIMS), India and the Ocean University China(OUC), Qingdao have joined
hands to design the Post Graduate Program for Executives - Managing Business in India and China (PGPEx-MBIC).

This first ever Sino-Indian Executive Post Graduate Program is being conducted under the partnership and
stewardship of two institutes of academic excellence – the Indian Institute of Management Shillong, India and the
Ocean University of China, Qingdao, China; thereby bringing the true International flavor par excellence for this course.
Ocean University of China (OUC), formerly Ocean University of Qingdao, is a comprehensive university under the
direct administration of the Ministry of Education of China, offering coursework in the fields of Economics, Liberal Arts,
Medical Sciences (Pharmaceuticals), Management, Law, Sciences, Engineering and Agronomy. OUC is located in
Qingdao, a renowned summer resort and an attractive historic tourist city of scenic beauty and temperate climate,
convenient with an international airport with direct flights to Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, etc.
What is the total duration of the China module
and when does this start?
The China module is a part of the PGPEx program and is
for a period of 4 months. The module starts during the
month of March and the total duration is from March to
July.
What is the total cost of the China module?
The total cost of the China module is around 2-4 Lakhs
that includes Air Tickets, Travel, and Lodging.
What facilities are included or are part of the
fees for the China module?
As part of the fees for China Module, tuition fees and
lodging expenses are taken care of by OUC for the
entire duration of student’s stay in China. Food
expenses are separate and borne by the student.
Are there any other expenses other than the
China module fees?
Accommodation and tuition fees is covered. All food
expenses during the stay has to be borne by the
student. If internship is in Qingdao, then
accommodation is taken care by OUC. However, if
internship is in a different location, then the student
has to bear the expenses.

PGPExecutive 2015-16 The PGPEx - MBIC (Post Graduate Program for Executives - Managing Business in India and China) is a one year
intensive program offered by The Rajiv Gandhi Indian Institute of Management (RGIIM). The Executive Management
Program aims at equipping the participants with adequate knowledge and business skills for managing businesses in
India and China, and also enabling them to operate at strategic levels with a global outlook by synergizing all
functional areas of Management. Moreover the participants will be trained in Chinese language, Chinese Culture and

one of the most sought after batches for management education. Over the period of 14 months, the participants go
through rigorous academic process of IIM Shillong and spend about 4 months at The Ocean University of China,
understanding the culture and management principles of the country.
The diversity of the batch makes it one of the most special ones. With an average experience of 7 years, the batch
represents a strong team of professionals in the areas of Operations, Project Management, Customer Relationship
Management, Strategy, and others.

The institute is currently located in the Mayurbhanj
Complex (the erstwhile summer palace of
Mayurbhanj Kings). The Campus includes a main
building wherein the administrative office, faculty
offices, classrooms, library and conference halls
are housed. Apart from the main building, the
Institute also has an auditorium, guesthouse,
number of small syndicate rooms (separate) and
student dormitories within the campus. Faculty
residences are situated just adjacent to the
campus.
When it comes to stay at IIM Shillong, there is nothing so serene and
pleasant as it is to stay at “The Abode of Clouds” i.e. Shillong.
Shillong attracts not only students, but also tourists from around the
world.
The serene ambiance of IIM Shillong surrounded by pine trees, lush
green lawn and the kaleidoscopic mountains in the backdrop creates
an aura of stunned silence amidst nature. Within the heart of Shillong

All the class rooms are aesthetically
designed with high tech
infrastructure and are fully equipped
with modern facilities to help
participants in their learning
process. Each class room has a
smart board with Internet
connectivity. These relieve the
participants from jotting down class
notes, and instead concentrate on
the discussion. The class jotting on
the board can be mailed to the email
accounts of the participants after the
class. The classes are also provided
with high speed wireless internet
connectivity, so that necessary
literature from different databases
can be downloaded to enhance
classroom discussion. Most of the

The Institute has developed a
modern Knowledge Resource
Centre with interdisciplinary focus

The Institute has a state of art IT

to facilitate all its present and

faculty and students to assist in their

Dormitories
There are both single and double
occupancy rooms available for the
students. Besides the basic
amenities of a cot, mattress, room
heater, wardrobe, study table and a
chair, in every room, the dormitories
are connected with a state of the art
Wireless Mesh Network (WMN).
There is also a common reading
room, common recreation room
equipped with table-tennis, carom,
and television facilities. Within the
confines of the dormitories are a
gymnasium, basketball and
badminton court present inside the
campus.
Other Facilities
The Institute provides medical aid to
all resident students. An on-duty
doctor is available in the dispensary
of the campus.

The list of electives offered at IIM Shillong is a varied
bunch that focuses in providing the entire length and
breadth of business. Students can select list of
electives that interests them according to their area of
specialization and past experience.
The areas of electives are shown on the left. The list
of electives shown is presently for the PGPEx 2014
batch. The list of electives however changes every
year.
What are the total electives available and how
many can we choose?
The number of electives varies each year. For PGPEx
2014 batch, there were 13 electives to choose from.
A student may choose a minimum of 12 electives and
maximum of 16 electives. The electives chosen will
depend on the professional interests of the student.

What if a student does not like his/her elective
after studying for a certain period of
month/months?
Selection of an elective is student’s prerogative and
based upon his/her interests. Once an elective is
taken, there no choice but to complete the elective

Internship
Corporate Internships are an integral part of the IIM Shillong, PGPEx program. During this period, students select their
desired companies who they choose to work for and then apply all the knowledge gained over the course into practical
use. Internships allow students to get a firsthand experience on real corporate work, apply the business principles
learnt over the course, and innovate as much possible in the time of the internship program. It not only helps students
gain practical insight into corporate problems, but also helps them build the right contacts and create opportunities for
themselves
What is the total duration of the Internship?
There are 2 internships, one in India and another
in China, each of 2 months that a student needs to
do.
How do we select a company and apply for
an Internship?
The Placement Committee of the batch would
assist in Internship and Placement process.

Do students get paid during the Internship
period?
Any stipend paid during the Internship period depends
solely on the employer.
Bank Loan
Which are the banks that are affiliated with IIM
Shillong for bank loans?
There are many government and private banks tied up
with us and readily available for your education loan.
Some of them are SBI (State Bank of India), PNB
(Punjab National Bank), and ICICI.
What is the process to apply for a bank loan?
The process of applying for a bank loan at IIM Shillong
is a cake walk. The student will have to bring in all the
documents on the day of registration at the IIM Shillong
branch and the loan shall be processed instantly.
What is the interest rate offered by the banks?

What are the essential documents that are
required for the bank loan?
The student needs to bring original documents such as
education and experience certificates, identify proofs,
photo identity, and others.
What is the total amount of loan that can be
availed for education?
The banks shall offer the required education loan as per
student’s needs. If required, on a case by case basis,
the banks shall also offer the whole educational fees as
a loan.
Can the documents be sent through email/soft
copy?
No. The documents need to be carried in-person on
the registration date at the IIM Shillong campus.
Is there any collateral that needs to be shown to
apply for a bank loan?
There is no collateral that needs to be shown for IIM
Shillong students. It is a collateral free loan that covers
100% of the fee.
Will the bank disburse the education loan to the
university and is any other Standing Order that
needs to be given from the student?
Once the bank loan is sanctioned, the Bank will take
care of disbursing educational loan funds to the
university on a timely basis. The student need not
worry on this at all.
Who is the necessary contact for any bank loan
related information?
Student can meet the bank people during the time of
registration at IIM Shillong.

Nearest Airport / Nearest Railway
Station The nearest major airport and railway station is at Guwahati, which is about 120 km away from Shillong. Shillong can be
reached by taxi/car and the fare is about INR 1200. Guwahati Airport is well connected to many major cities in India including
Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Direct flights are also available to Bangkok. Delhi and Kolkata are the
international airports close to Guwahati.
International travelers can connect to Guwahati through Kolkata or Delhi. There are also helicopter services available from
Guwahati to Shillong. Indian Airlines also operates a direct flight from Kolkata to Shillong Airport.
