and indicated he will donate an excess panel he

has in storage at home.

Tractor. Thanks to Rick Moreland and

Rodger Binger, our tractor is back in operation.

The carburetor has been cleaned and rebuilt,

and the broken hitch bar has been repaired. A

new muffler and tail pipe have been received,

and will be installed as soon as weather

permits.

Show and Tell. Steve Baker brought in a

Horizon Hobby Havoc EDF jet. He has flown

the model and characterized its flying

characteristics as “a handful”. He indicated

that the model is easy to assemble but is a bit

heavy with a 6-cell LiPo. Steve’s intent is to

practice with the model in preparation for a

possible part-time job flying turbine jets for his

son Jonathan’s employer.

Ethan Gaskin showed the members his Hobby

King electric sail plane, and described how he

recently installed an LED lighting system.

Ethan soloed with the model this past spring,

and flew it frequently throughout the season.

Now he’ll be able to fly it in diminishing

daylight at the end of the day.

Raffle and 50/50. Alan Goodman won a kit

that can be assembled as either a quad copter or

a hovercraft. Alan’s grandson Georgie will

likely have a say regarding which option is

selected. John Creamer won a bonus raffle

prize: a never-flown 1/5-scale AT-6 that Alan

donated to the cause from an estate acquisition.

Tom Gurlacz won $102.50 in the 50-50

drawing. Tom’s wife, Mary, missed out on the

drawing twice this past year when her number

was drawn.

RIP ANDY KANE Andy Kane, noted modeler, and prime mover

of DCRC for many years, passed away

suddenly on 30 December at age 62. Andy was

well known to many of us at PGRC, and

frequently attended our Open House and Big

Bird / War Bird events. He will be missed. An

extract from his obituary

Kane) is provided below.

Andy was also an internationally-known,

respected, and beloved leader in the Radio

Control Model Aircraft Hobby. He volunteered

his time and knowledge since childhood to

furthering the hobby. Andy’s mission in life

was to better the sport of model aviation. For

nearly 40 years, he was a pivotal member of the

District of Columbia Radio Control Club

(DCRC), serving as a guiding officer for over

twenty years, including several terms as

President. Andy also served the Academy of

Model Aeronautics (AMA) as RC Contest

Coordinator, Turbine CD and Experimental

Aircraft Inspector and for the International

Miniature Aerobatic Club (IMAC), and he was

on the sequence committee and served as the

Unknown Sequence librarian. He was District

VP for Jet Pilots Organization (JPO) and the

International Miniature Aircraft Association

(IMAA). He was lovingly designated as the

President of Team Food by his fellow DCRC

Members. He devoted his life to the hobby,

loved every minute of it, and loved his many

flying “buddies” all over the world that he met

through the years.

TRACTOR STORAGE. A tractor belonging

to Mike, the contractor who Parks hired to mow

hay in the upper fields, is now in storage at the

field near our equipment shed. Mike is

allowing us use of the tractor, which has a

hydraulic front-end loader blade, in return for

the increased security of storing the tractor at

the lower field. The tractor will be very useful

to us for road maintenance and other chores

requiring movement of material.
