CATALYST Consortium, Pathfinder – Bolivia, Consultant in Community Mobilization for Post-‐Abortion Care, La Paz, Bolivia . March 2004 -‐ June 2005. Creation of a Community Participatory Investigation instrument (Autodiagnóstico) for use among community organizations in the cities of El Alto and Santa Cruz, Bolivia to explore issues of unwanted pregnancy, abortion, and post-‐abortion health care seeking. A series of workshops were implemented to develop the field teams, promote Action Research skills, carry out participatory evaluations, community results presentations and design Community Action Plans to respond to issues prioritized with regard to obstacles to Post-‐Abortion Care, USAID funded. Development of an interactive CD for adolescents designed to influence KAP (knowledge, attitudes and practices) in sexual and reproductive health and education; development and trials of a Facilitator’s Manual to guide the use of alternative education materials for child laborers on themes of sexual and reproductive health, gender, ecology, human rights and community participation, USAID funded. Mid-‐term Evaluation Team Member responsible for assessing the Community Participation components of the Behavior Change and Communications AED-‐based global project. Review of all project documents, interviews with persons affiliated with design and implementation, field visit to Dominican Republic to evaluate project effectiveness in context. Save the Children, Community Mobilization Specialist, Washington DC January – December 2001. Collaboration with Johns Hopkins University/Population Communication Services (Africa, Asia, Latin America, Middle East). Designed effective community participatory strategies, instruments and materials to motivate and guide communities and health workers to improve reproductive and sexual health by stimulating processes of social change. Conducted TOT (training of trainers) workshops in the Philippines and Indonesia. In Peru worked on the “Bridges for Quality” project with district health teams in Peru, that focuses on defining what constitutes quality services for both clients and providers. The positive project outcomes to date include increased use of family planning and child survival services, improved interpersonal relations between clients and health workers, and changes in service operations in response to community needs and suggestions. MISIUR (Misión Integral Urbano Rural), Project Coordinator, Peru, January-‐ December 2000. Community Needs Assessment Project in a post-‐conflict resettlement region. Design and implementation of a Community Participatory Investigation to provide information on the needs of women, youth and children in Huancavelica, Peru in preparation for a comprehensive development effort funded by the European Community. Creation of the curriculum, materials and training of a bilingual team (Spanish and Quechua) to facilitate the participatory process to elicit essential data. Monitoring and supervision of all phases of the research, data analyses, synthesis and presentation of final conclusions. Management of relations with government, civic, church and nongovernment organizations involved with the local population. Analysis of data collected from 1996 to 2000 from community-‐based organizations to reach conclusions about women’s practices, knowledge and perceptions of reproductive processes. Provision of recommendations to policy makers at Department, Provincial and District levels required to promote and ensure improved reproductive health in Puno, Ancash, San Martin, and Ucayali.
