Cruz Faces Opposition In 180th
by Rory McGlasson
State Rep. Angel Cruz (D-Kens-
ington) has a fight on his hands to
retain his office in the 180th Leg-
islative District.
Five days after the State Supreme
Court disapproved the State Redis-
tricting Commission map, a coali-
tion of North Philadelphia leaders
has united in a bid to unseat the
nine-year incumbent.
Quetcy Lozada, a former chief of
staff for Councilwoman Maria
Quiñones Sánchez, stepped out of
the race to support Jonathan
Ramos.
At a news conference held outside
the Shepard School, 1200 W. Cam-
bria Street, Tuesday, Lozada en-
couraged voters to support Ramos.
The 180th District encompasses
West Kensington, Eastern North
Philadelphia, Harrowgate and Ju-
niata. The District is known as a
crime hotspot in the Philadelphia,
and is one of the poorest sections
of the city.
Looking for a job? If so, you
should check out State Rep. W.
Curtis Thomas’ annual Public Sec-
tor Job Fair, being held 9:00AM to
2:00PM, Friday, February 10th at
800 N. Broad Street.
A wide range of public sector em-
ployers offering jobs and training
opportunities will attend. Some of
the participating agencies con-
firmed include PA CareerLink,
North Philadelphia Health Sys-
tems, Pennsylvania State Police,
Urban League, Temple University,
Temple University Health Sys-
tems, Education Works, Pennsyl-
vania State Police Bureau of
Liquor Control Enforcement and
Quality Community Health Care
among others.
“With double digit unemployment
in Philadelphia, it’s important to
provide opportunities for those in
need of family-sustaining jobs,”
said Thomas, who sponsors two
job fairs each year. “If you’re seri-
ous about job hunting, you will
take advantage of this opportu-
nity.”
The fair also will provide assis-
tance to those who need to im-
prove their job hunting skills. If
you need tips on writing your re-
sume you can attend workshops on
resume writing and interview
skills that will begin at 9:00AM
sharp.
Job seekers are urged to dress to
impress and bring plenty of re-
sumes. Free parking is available
adjacent to the building through
the Brown Street entrance. For

Davis at 215/560-3261.
