Philadelphia Union fell to Eastern Conference foe New England Revolution 3-0 in a physical contest at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The loss drops Philadelphia to 7-10-5 on the season. The Union will be back in action on Aug. 5, when they host FC Dallas at Talen Energy Stadium.

In a match played in the same venue as the

defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, this match had the feel of an American Football game due to the rough play that was allowed to go on throughout the evening. Both clubs recorded double digit fouls and the intensity started early.

New England was able to draw first blood

in the match, thanks to the extraordinary athleticism of forward Kei Kamara. In the 38th minute, New England’s Kelyn Rowe lofted a pass into the box that seemed destined for Union goalkeeper John McCarthy’s hands.

Kamara however leaped in the air and was able

to stretch his foot in a ridiculous motion above McCarthy’s head to connect with the pass and find the back of the net to give the Revs the 1-0 lead. Kamara’s goal was the difference maker in the first half with New England leading 1-0 after the first 45.

As the second half began, Rookie of the

Year candidate Jack Elliott added another sensational play to his resume. After the Revs pushed forward and had numbers on the Union

defense, New England’s Diego Fagundez was left all alone with McCarthy out from net.

Fagundez’s shot was denied by Elliott who came

running over to keep the deficit at 1-0. Elliott’s defensive play was a replica of his goal-saving effort from Wednesday against Columbus.

The Union had their best chance of the night

to get on the scoreboard later in the second half when defender Oguchi Onyewu connected off a corner with a header that was destined for the back of the net, but at the last moment Kamara leaped and sent the ball over the bar with his head to preserve the New England 1-0 lead.

The Revs busted the match open in the final

10 minutes of the match with two goals. Kamara recorded his second goal of the night in the 85th minute, while Juan Agudelo sealed the 3-0 victory with a goal in the 89th minute.

Philadelphia will return to the pitch on

Aug. 5 when they host FC Dallas at Talen Energy Stadium. The Union are 6-1-0 in their last seven home matches. Kick-off for that match is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be televised on The Comcast Network
