From the Principal … Walk-A-Thon – Next term the P&C are running a major fund raiser for our school. This year the students will be involved in a walk-a-thon. The funds raised will benefit our students through resources and improvements to our school. We are asking that all students and parents support this fund raiser and seek lots of sponsorship from their family and friends over the holidays. As an added incentive all students who gain sponsors and return their sponsorship forms and money by the due date will go into a draw to win an ipod touch . This prize will be drawn at the conclusion of the walk- a-thon on Thursday 20 October. Mini-Fete – Excitement is building as the mini-fete day has almost arrived. There are lots of exciting events and stalls planned for our students tomorrow. A huge thank you to our Stage Three students and teachers who have worked extremely hard to ensure mini-fete is a success. Holidays – It’s hard to believe that Term Three is almost over. This term has certainly flown. Just a reminder to our families that Term Three concludes this Friday 23 September and will resume for Term Four on Monday 10 October. Empathy is the ability to connect with others by understanding their feelings and needs. When we experience empathy we appreciate how others feel and are sensitive to their needs. When we respond with empathy our actions are caring and considerate. Empathy: Leads to better understanding of others Increases self-esteem Enables us to experience other peoples’ feelings and needs Allows for positive relationships and social interactions Fosters good friendships. Please have discussions with your children about why we all need to have empathy. Students have listened to stories and quotations about empathy and should be able to remember them. Mrs S Kumar. Multicultural Day 2011GPK is celebrating Multicultural Day on Thursday 13 October. The theme for thisday is One World Many Stories”.

This day aims to celebrate the combined achievement of all the peoples of Australiain creating a unique, cohesive society; a society that recognises the special place theFirst Peoples of Australia and their unique place in the history and ongoing development of Australia.

Multicultural Day offers a window through which we can better understand the common lives we share, while exploring the diversity of the lands and cultures that define us.

At the same time, promoting a culture of peace in schools teaches children the skills of living and working together in harmony. These skills equip young people for adult life in a culturally, linguistically and religiously diverse Australia as well as building resilience in dealing with the challenges of a global community.

Multicultural Day displays and activities are as follows:

* Each classroom will feature a country or nation and interactive activity.

* National Dress – students are encouraged to wear national dress or colours.

* Dance Performance – 5 dance groups will be performing in the hall.

* Multicultural Luncheon – will be at 1:00pm. Share food from around the world with your class or

grade.

* Class Entrance Door Display – classes will create an exciting doorway into their country or nation.

Parents are welcome to view the dancing in the hall and to share the luncheon with their children.
