Allow me to extend a warm welcome to all visitors, exhibitors and delegates to the 16th Southeast Asian Healthcare Show – a well-established event in the international calendar of exhibitions for the healthcare industry.

Healthcare is one of the key areas under the Malaysian Government’s Economic Transformation Programme - an ambitious and impressive effort to realize the objective of being an economic success as well as attain developed nation status by the year 2020. Thus, the Ministry of Health is working hard to strength its public healthcare system, further improve its performance capabilities as well as collaborate with the private sector to ensure that Malaysia will have an effective, safe and efficient health care system that any developed nation would be proud to have. We are indeed a nation working together for better health! “Prevention is better than cure” and in 2013, the Ministry of Health will give continued importance to preventive and promotive healthcare. These include areas such as medical screening as well as the prevention and management of the risk factors for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs). These risk factors include obesity, sedentary lifestyles, poor eating habits such as high salt and sugar intake as well as hypertension. NCDs such as cancers, cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory diseases and diabetes mellitus have become a serious threat to the health of the nation. We must act fast to stem this inexorable tide of NCDs, for the sake of our nation!

I am pleased that Malaysia is continuing to expand its healthcare manufacturing capacity and capabilities. We are amongst the world’s key suppliers of medical disposals and I am also pleased that we are successfully venturing into the laboratory, hospital furniture and high-end devices market.

I am also pleased to be informed that ABC Exhibitions has often received many international accolades and praises from both exhibitors and visitors. Do continue with this excellence because it is hard to reach the top but even harder to remain there! Thus, I am confident that the 16th edition of this exhibition will be a successful endeavor.

A very warm welcome to all attendees of the 16th Southeast Asian Healthcare Show which promises to be a total event for the healthcare industry.

I am very pleased that the SE-Asian Healthcare Show has developed even further and does not just concentrate on the ‘business end’ for the manufacturers and distributors of medical equipment but consistently combines an interesting range of seminars for the medical professionals. My sincere appreciation to the organisers for inviting me to write a few words in conjunction with this event.

Malaysia is not only in a position to deliver quality and affordable healthcare but is also powering ahead in Medical Tourism. Indeed Malaysia is one of the fastest emerging destinations for medical tourism in Asia with unmatched advantages such as World-class facilities, Professional and Multi-cultural and Multi-Lingual staff, low cost medical packages and special arrangements (such as accommodation and travel), low cost of procedures and last but not least a fantastic tourist destination to cater to foreign patients especially during the recuperation period. It is now the preferred destination for medical and wellness tourists globally.

Organising seminars and exhibitions such as this exhibition is indeed a good effort and very much appreciated by the Malaysian Ministry of Health. I have been informed by the organisers that this year in particular there will be a range of informative seminars such as ‘Collagen and Wound Healing by Dr. Larry G. Baratta from the USA and on a brand new front a discussion by international Surgeons on Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. I am sure that these seminars will be appreciated by the medical professionals who will be able to gain very informative information.

The Ministry of Health has been supporting this Show for the past 16 years. It has now developed into a major regional event for the healthcare industry. It is part of our effort to make Malaysia as a leader in healthcare for the region.

The Malaysian healthcare sector is expanding at a fast rate. The Government as the main healthcare provider in this country will continue to support its development from primary to tertiary care services.

And for our return exhibitors/visitors - there’s lots of new initiatives to make your participation even more effective and enjoyable.

This year we’ve worked around a 'More of Everything'. More exhibitors, pre-registered visitors, seminars/delegates, pre-planned business meetings and space taken up. With an overall increase in all areas - I’m sure our exhibitors and visitors will find even more opportunities to increase their success.

Inspired by our Scandinavian roots - we’ve increasingly strived to keep the entire process of organising the Show both green and environment friendly. Over the years, exhibitors have been benefiting from the Complete Package, Internet-based Planning and a reduction in paper based processes. This year it’s water-stations and re-usable table cloths... We plan to do more next year.

Visitors have also come to appreciate the exclusive and free Show Directory, Badge Delivery, Seminars and Advance Meetings Facility. We harnessed the power of Social Media, last year, and a natural extension this year has been the introduction of a Smart Phone Application. And it has already proved itself to be popular among our visitors.

SHOW OVERVIEWMore Than A Trade Show - this year will see a strengthening of the events

around the exhibition, which add more value to the participants.

The event has kicked off with a press conference and launch a week before the Show and moved into a final aggressive visitor promotion campaign that has utilized all the marketing channels from radio, print and social media.

We are also again welcoming exhibitors from a wide range of countries and some of them are in SE-Asia for the first time. Here, Kuala Lumpur’s natural advantages of location, fantastic infrastructure and the regions best prospects - were definitely the deciding factors.
