More people have more ways

to access collections

information

Collecting organisations get

more and different people

using their collections

information for more and

different things

Grid manages joined up UK collections

information and offers it (wholly

or partly) for different uses via open standards

and good practices for ‘open data’

Many services, e.g. Portals,

search engines, broadcasters get

single point access to lots of

collections information

• Cultural organisations have the same duty of care for both the physical and the digital material they hold

• Sustainability of digital material supports sustainability of the organisation and therefore should be embedded in all organisational strategies, policies, practices and roles

• Sustainability of digital material supports front line service delivery and offers opportunity for new services to be efficiently developed into the future

• Sustainability of digital material should be considered throughout the service delivery life-cycle

• Service delivery needs and priorities should inform choices about what digital material to sustain, and for how long

• Digital material should be created and managed in order to support many uses, to enhance long term viability.
