probably get it a p p r o v e d within

a

matter

of

weeks.

That is

a

blessing

to know,

as it will be necessary for her

to

have

her

r e s i d e n c y

so we

c a n s p e n d o u r f u r l o u g h y e a r i n the

states.

decide

when

that

twel ve month period will be.

So

what

are our present plans? Lord

willing, we

are going

to

get a little more

settled in. W e have b e e n t a k i n g

care

of

the

Stringer house while

they

a r e

away.

W e

are b e g i n n i n g a search

for

our o w n p l a c e

to

rent. Then w e w i l l n e e d

to buy

some

furniture, a n d appliances,

for

w h i c h w e h a v e b e e n

s a v i n g

o v e r t h e p a s t y e a r by p a y i n g

low rent in the Stringer

house.

Because

of

the distance from

Normandia

to Santa

Monica (minimum of 1/2 hour in public transportation) we

want to

live in the same

area

of where we are going to begin

the church.

We hope to be settled into

our

ow n

place

by

June.

This

the

of our

baby

3-14).

After months of prayer, plan

ning

and

pr e parat ion we finally

were

able to

begin

Sunday worship

services

in the

north

end of

Bogota. This brings us much joy,

and we are

sure it

delights

our

Lord, tool We thank

him

for

helping

us,

and we thank you for

praying.

It took a few months for us to

look around and find

a

place to

have our meetings. We were

blessed

to find a two story house with

a

lot

of

space on the first

floor

for

services. The house is also

well

located, about

a

block

and a half

from a

main street. The

neighborhood

is

v e r y

pretty and

in

front of the

house

is a park area

for

games

and

fellowship.

The Longest family has moved

into

the

second floor

of the

house

and

will

be able to attend those

who come to the door with questions

about

the church.

They

will also

take

care

of cleaning

for awhile.

They

pay

rent for

the second

floor

which allows the church to

afford

rent on the entire house.

Nancy and I are also

anxious

to move closer to the work. As

it

is, we spend much time and money

in

travelling to the north end for

meetings and teaching. Yet

we

feel

we must wait until the return of

the

Stringer

family,

as we

are

taking care of

their

house while

they

are on

furlough.

Lord

willing,

we

will

be

able to

move around late

may

or the

first

of June.

As

for

the meetings. Bill is

teaching the adults on

a

regular

basis,

and I am

teaching

the

children, ages 6-12. We plan

to

switch

places one Sunday

a

month so

as

to

have

a

break

from

routine.

POWER OUT

For

the past

few months

it

has

been very hot in Colombia.

Supposedly we

were

in for some

rain, as we are in the rainy

season.

However,

we

have been

without

rain except for

a

few brief

showers since the beginning

of the

year.

Due to

the

shortage

in

rain,

the water reserves are drying up.

The lakes were they have the

reserves were down

to 27 full last

week,

and

drying up

quickly, both

due

to

use and evaporation, contd)

Because

of the

lack

of water,

the

hydroelectric plants have not

been able

to

produce

enough

power

for

the

demand. As

a result,

we

have our power cut every day from

6a.m.

till 10a.m. and again from

5p.m.

till 9p.m. These hours vary

from barrio to barrio. However; the

other day all

of

Bogota was

blacked

out

from 4 till 8p.m.

Newspapers

say that

if there

isn't rain soon, and none is

expected

for the next

couple

of

months,

then

they will start

rationing

the water supply for

consumption, as well as

have

further cuts

in

power. That will

happen when

reserves reach 10%.

The

power

cuts have affected

the way we

work.

We must plan to

do

things

that require

electricity

when the

power is

available, not

when we would normally

do

them.

For

example, work on

newsletters,

wash

clothes, or clean

with

appliances that require

electricity. Fortunately, we

have

a

gas

range available for cooking.

We

are unsure of how

long

this

will go

on. We

are sure that it is

somewhat

of

an

inconvenience. Yet,

we

must

be

patient

and

continue

praying

for lots and lots of rain

to fall

in

the right

places. In

the meantime, we are

enjoying the

summer-like weather in Bogota.

After much prayer Sunday, we

had brief showers Sunday

and

Monday

nights, and

a

rain storm Tuesday.

Praise

the

Lord Yet, according to

the news,

the rationing will

go on

for another couple of months

until

reserves reach full capacity.

Please, continue to pray for rain.)

Nancy's doctor,

we can expect the arrival of our

little one around the

3rd of

July.

We are anxiously preparing

to bring

home Jessica's little brother or

sister.

Of

course, everyone asks

us

what

we want, a boy

or a

girl?

We respond

that

we

want

whatever

the

Lord

wants

to

bless

us

with.

Although

I usually

make strong

suggestions to Nancy that

Jr.

would

be a nice present (as if she had

some say

in the actual

decision).

We hope this Super Saturday

project will be a

way

to involve

many of

the

new members of the

church. We

want each of our

members

to be active in

some

sort

of ministry.

FIX-UPS in the

new

building

we

rented

for the

church.

We

need

more

appropriate

lighting in

our

worship area, and classroom space.

The

garage

is

serving

as a Sunday

school room

for the

kids,

but is

too big

and empty .

(We want

to

thank the Town and Country

Christian Church for already

donating

$200.00

towards fix-ups).

To—

date, -we have around

$800.00 saved toward the purchase

of

a

COMPUTER and

PRINTER.

We

sold

the

ones

we had in

the

states

for

fear of

them being damaged during

shipping,

and

for high

import

taxes. We need these

invaluable

pieces of

office

equipment for...

the States

via

FAX and modem

hook

ups, to reduce the costs

of phone

calls and the

14 day

delay in mail

when there is

important information

to

relay.

a

printing

ministry; Translations, Tracts,

flyers,

newsletters,

and

lesson

writing.

We would like to purchase

these

items around

mid-year, June

or July.

We have

found some

reasonably priced computers here,

yet it is obvious that we will

have

to pay more

here

than in

the

States

(about

25%

more).

THE

MINISTRY

We are seeing many blessings in our

new

work in the north.

The

biggest

one

we see

is

that

of new believers who are willing

to make Jesus

not

only their

Savior,

but

also

their

Lord.

We are

striving

to

teach

these new believers what the

Lord says

in

his word about

everyday living.

In a

home

Bible

study. Bill

has

touched on raising

kids

with Jorge and Cataryn

Enrique

(in-ree-kay), a Christian family. And we

have preached

the last few

months

on

what

the__Lord

expects

of his church, and on

what is an alive and active faith.

The Super Saturday

seems

to

have

gotten off to

a

good start also. We have

an average of

ids

per week ccMning frcan

one

barrio where

the Enrique

family lives.

We

also

passed

out, person-to-person,

nearly a thousand flyers announcing Super

Saturday,

the meetings of the church.

We pray this

will

have good results.

We

want to

tell

you about various

families

in

the

new

church so you can get

to

know

more

about who

we are

working

with. We also

want

you to pray specificly

about each of their

needs.

JORGE

AND

CATARYN

Jorge is

from

Bucaramanga

and

Cataryn

his

wife is from

France. They have two kids,

Natalia (9)

and

Danilo

(8). This family

came to the Lord about 5 years

ago

in

Germany,

but upon

returning

to

Colombia

they drifted from

the Lord.

Now, Praise

the

Lord, they are actively involved

in

the

church in

the north. They do,

however,

need

your prayers

as

they

are

struggling

with knowing how to discipline

their

children.

ANA MARIA

Ana

Maria is a neighbor

of

Jorge

Cataryn. She

has

given her

life

to the

Lord

just recently,

and is soon to

be

baptized. She has a

ten

year old

daughter,

Melissa,

and

a new-born

baby

daughter.

She

is learning to live without

her husband who

died

in an airplauie

accident

about seven months ago. Pray for

her as she begins

her

walk with the

Lord,

and as she learns to trust in

him.

AND LILIANA

This couple is also recently converted.

They

are doing that

which

many inmature

Christians

do: allowing

their problems to

get

them down,

instead

of seeking

the Lord

to

help

them

resolve

their

needs.

They

Lord, they have

faced

worse

financial

problems

emd may soon loose

their house

for

not

bieng able to make

a

couple

of

bank

payments. Pray the Lord

will

lead them

to

him in search

for a

solution; and that he will

act powerfully

and quickly, to his glory, helping them

solve their financial problems.

GUSTAVO

Gustavo is the only youth (19)

in

the

church. He and his

brother

were

baptized

a few months ago.

His

brother, Andres,

has

not been to

church

since.

Gustavo

also has some

problems

related to

lack

of

spiritual

growth.

Both

are

pressured

by

their non-believing mother into not

living

for the Lord. Pray the Lord

will

act in

this

family to bring the mother to come

to

him in repentsuice. Also pray

Gustavo and

Andres can experience Spiritual growth

ELOISA

Both have

a

few

years in the Lord's

family. Pray for Marco, who has possible

makings for being a

future

leader.

We were also blessed with being able

to save rent money last year, while

paying

a small

amount

to Mark Stringer. This

savings,

along

with

some other

money

we

had saved, allowed us

to

buy most of our

needed

furniture

and

appliances.

We

praise

the

Lord for blessing us

with a

nice

place to

live.

, and for

helping

us

move

in

before the arrival

of

Hannah.

After spending

nearly a

year

in

the

Stringer

house, we have finally found an

apartment to

call

home .

This

comes

after

a

couple of

hard

weeks

trying

to

find a place to live.

We had been asking for your

prayers, and the

Lord

has answered

We now live much closer

to

the church in

the north-end of Bogota. The rent is also

reasonable
