Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
IDEAS:
I will be creating a digital 4 page newsletter for 14-16 year olds about fashion, sport
and music. I am going to keep all my pages of my newsletter with a black
background because black it isn’t a colour associated with a specific gender. As
well as black being a mysterious colour, it is also very plain, so I chose it in order for
my choice of image and text to stand out, especially the title.
I am going to keep all my pages simple so it looks more proffesional and tidy,
although I am going to use a coloured text on my front cover and keep the titles on
my other pages the same. I’m going to do this to make it more interesting and
appealing. Fashion is associated with girls and sport is associated more to boys, so I
am going to use a masculine like colour on my fashion page and a feminine colour
on my sport page to make it more appealing for both genders.
On my front cover page, I am going to make the colour of my title blue because I
think a majority of 14-16 year old males like that colour, and I am going to use an
image of a female on my front cover, so by making my text blue; it will balance out
the feminine and masculine.
I am going to keep all my title fonts the same and all my text boxes the same. I am
going to lower the opacity of all my text boxes because it makes a good effect,
doesn’t block out the image, and is also a bit easier on the eye. By making the text
box a bit duller as well, it makes the text and image stand out even more, and as the
text box itself, it isn’t too important. For my titles I am going to keep a black text over
a white boxed background, I have chosen to do this because it will stand out
amongst my pages black background and the white and black juxtaposed goes
well.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I firstly opened Photoshop and put in the correct measurements for
an A4 page.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I then made my background black; I did this by using the 'Paint bucket tool' on the toolbar
and selecting a colour. I chose to make my background black because it is a colour that
is not associated with a specific gender. Black is a dark but neutral colour and it will make
any text or image I put on my page stand out as well as make the page look sleek and
stylish.
I got an image of Nicki Minaj from 'Google images'. I chose to use an image of her
because she is very current and she is also quite well known and popular. She is young,
fashionable and attractive and will catch both genders eye. Her fashion sense and
appearance make her stand out to young people because that is what most people like
and find ‘attractive’ and aspire to have when they’re older.
I wanted the black and white effect on the picture because it will make my title and text
stand out and makes the image as well as the page look professional.
I wanted to cut the background away so that the person in the image I used stands out. I
did this by using the ‘Magic Wand tool’ and clicking on the background behind, I then
clicked backspace. Once I had cut around the image and got the image I wanted left – I
pressed ‘Ctrl+T’ and edited the sizing and placement of my image.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I got my title text on 'dafont.com'. I chose the font called 'Bebas' because it is basic
but bold and will stand out. I made it blue because blue is a bright colour and is
associated with males. As I used an image of a female on my front cover I felt it was
necessary to use something masculine in order to entice both genders. I made the
word 'Redbridge' bigger than 'news' because Redbridge is the most important word in
the title because that is who this newsletter is aimed at, young people in Redbridge. I
put 'news' in line with 'Redbridge' underneath so it looks symmetrical and therefore
neat and professional.
I put a 3D effect on my title by right clicking on the layer and selecting 'blending
options'. I wanted to make the title look 3D like because it makes it stand out more
and a bit more appealing.
I then put a box ready for my text on the side of the page. I initially made the box
white and I lowered the opacity to 35%. I did this to make the box blend in with the
page and make my image and title stand out. I think it looks more tidy and
professional with an almost transparent box because you can see more of the image
and the box without it being too in your face.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I got a barcode off of Google images and I put it symmetrically with my title and
text box in order for it to look more professional.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
This is my finished front page. I inserted a price tag next to the barcode. I
made the price '20p' because as it is a first edition of my newsletter and it
needs to appeal, by making it 20p will attract the audience and give them
a decent first impression.
I put the issue number and date of release in line and underneath my title
because the audience need to know these details.
I put them under the title because that is where will be seen first and it will
therefore be noticed. I put the text in blue because it fits in with the colour
scheme, although I did make it a bit of a darker shade of blue to make it a
bit more interesting.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I then went on to make the second page of my newsletter, my 'Fashion'
page. I made the background black again by using the paint bucket tool
on the side toolbar. I decided to use black again because it is a neutral
colour and is not associated with either gender, and it will make whatever
text or image I use on my page stand out.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
For my title, I used the font 'Bebas' from dafont.com. I used this font on my title
page and I chose to use it for my music page because again it isn't girly or
masculine, it's bold and simple and will catch my audience’s eyes. I chose to
keep the white background behind my text because it makes it stand out
more and it juxtaposes. It also brings a bit more colour to the page.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I used an image of Nicki Minaj on my music page because I used her on my
front page and I chose to link the two by writing an article about her. I kept the
image in black and white because I think my audience will prefer it as it makes
the page look more intense and her fiercer.
I lowered the opacity of this image of Nicki Minaj to 63% because I am going to
put my text box on top of the images I use and by lowering the opacity will
make everything stand out more.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
As well as an image of Nicki Minaj, I used an image of Chris Brown because
they are friends and have made music together. I thought I could use this as
an opportunity to write my article for my music page about them. I put the
images at either side of the page so I can put the text box in the middle. As
well as lowering the opacity on the image of Nicki Minaj, I also lowered it on
my other image so one doesn't stand out more than the other.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I then put a white text box between both images. I lowered the opacity like I did
in my other pages because I like the effect and it helps the images stand out
too. It also looks more neat and professional.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I then started to layer up rectangle boxes in the corner of my page. I
did this because in these rectangles I am going to insert a quote from
the article I am going to write. By placing a quote at the top, it will
attract the readers into wanting to read the full article. I chose to make
the rectangles pink because it is quite a bright colour and will grab
attention, and because I am quoting something a female says so I
thought the colour pink would be appropriate in the audience
understanding who said what.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I chose to use this quote because I felt it was the most intense
and would grab my audience's attention because of the
tension.
I patterned the black and white text because I felt it made it
look more interesting because each line is different. I chose to
use black and white because they are neutral colours and
complement each other well.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I subtitled under my music title to entice my readers into
wanting to read more. I put it under my title and next to my
quote because all 3 will combine to grab attention.
I used white text over a pink box because I have used other
shades of pink on this page and thought it'd work well by using
another shade. I chose the white text because it was a colour
that is clear to read on top of the pink and is quite neutral.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I then started to write my article. I made the 'W' bigger than
all of the other letters because it is the first letter of the first
word I wrote and by making it bigger will entice the
audience because it makes the text look more interesting
because it isn't all just one size and all the same.
I aligned the text to be in the middle of the box because it
looks more professional and neat and tidy.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
Once I had finished my article for my music page, I moved
on to my fashion page. I made the black background
because I am going to do this for all my pages to make it
look more professional by keeping it all the same. I made
the background black by using the 'Paint bucket tool' in
the side tool bar.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I then got the same font off of the website 'dafont.com'
called 'Bebas'. I put a white box behind it like on my
music page because I felt it makes it look more
interesting and the colours complement each other
nicely.
I put the title in the corner because I want to put my
image on the side.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I used an image of Cara Delevinge for my fashion page.
I chose to use her because she is a very current, young
and popular model.
I chose this specific image because it is bright and
appropriate for the target audience.
I cut the background out of the image by using the
'Magnetic Lasso tool'.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I started to insert boxes onto my page so I could put my articles in. I
decided to put 3 separate boxes instead of 1 big box to make it a
little more interesting. And by using 3 boxes will allow me to write 3
different articles to make it more appealing for my audience
because if they don't like one article they may like another so they
won't be left bored.
I lowered the opacity of all my boxes to 32% because it makes my
title and image stand out and the effect it gives makes it look more
professional. I made sure they were all the same width so it looks
tidy and my first 2 boxes the same height as well as width to make it
look neat and therefore professional.
I made my third box a different height because I am going to not
put a lot of text in so it will look neat because there won't be empty
space.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I inserted my titles for my articles before my articles so I
could figure out what I would like to put where. I chose to
put bold black lines under each title to make the title clear
and so it doesn't get lost within the articles themselves.
I put the letters of the titles in capital letters to make them
catch my audiences’ eyes more and as my articles will be
in lower case letters mostly it will make it more interesting.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I got 3 images off of clothing websites such as topshop.com and
riverisland.com. I then saved images of 3 things and put them into
my first box which is 'This season’s trend'. I then got a template of a
price tag on Google images and pasted it onto my first box. I used
the magic wand tool to get rid of the bits I didn't want, I then used
the paint bucket tool to fill in the tags with black. I used the text tool
to put in the price tag where the item is from and how much it
costs.
I wanted to put images of clothes on my fashion page because
fashion is quite an important thing to a majority of girls and I feel I
chose 3 different items that all girls would like. By making one of my
boxes like this makes it more interesting and eye catching
because it isn't all just text.
I used the 'Rectangle tool' to make a white thin box under my
image and box because this is the page that I am going to do my
split page advert on. The white box/line will help separate the
article and advert. I chose to make it white because it is a neutral
colour and blends with the black and white well.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I chose to do my advert on my fashion page. I chose to advertise lipstick because a
majority of 14-16 year old females use the product. I chose to use a polka dot pattern
as a background for the product to make it stand out. I chose red and white polka
dots because the lipstick is red and I felt it helped the product stand out. It made it
look more interesting by having a background behind it instead of nothing at all so
therefore will appeal to the readers.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I got a circle outline off of Microsoft word to use in my advert. I
copied it into Photoshop and filled it in with a hot pink; I filled the
colour by using the 'Paint Bucket tool'. I then clicked the 'Text tool'
and wrote 'NEW' in the circle in capital letters. The capital letters and
the pink help this stand out and as well as the product being new;
will attract readers into buying it.
I then wrote again 'NEW' next to another persuasive phrase because
the product being new will attract readers even more. I put the
word 'NEW' in red to make it stand out more. Red is a bright colour
and is also quite seductive, and also happens to be the same
colour of the product so I thought it would be the best choice.
I put two different comments about the product being 'Long lasting'
because that is going to entice the readers. I put key words such as
'new' and 'red' in the colour red to help emphasise the product. I
also used a heart shape around my text because it makes it more
interesting that just putting a box, and lipstick is girly and so is hearts
so I thought it fitted in well with the theme.
Lastly, I put the price in a light pink colour because pink is bright
and girly, and most 14-16 year old girls like pink. And I put an
'exclusive to Superdrug' sign at the bottom to show the audience
where they can buy this product.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
Once I had finished my fashion page, I chose to delete my image that I had in my
background. I deleted it because I felt there was too much on one page and by
having all of them images would distract the readers. By having the image also
blocked out some of the text and made it very unclear.
I also increased the opacities of my text boxes because it made them look more visual
and made the text clearer to read.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
Once I had finished my articles for my fashion page, I
moved on to my sport page. I made the black background
because I am going to do this for all my pages to make it
look more professional by keeping it all the same. I made
the background black by using the 'Paint bucket tool' in
the side tool bar.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I used 'Bebas' font off of 'dafont.com' for my sport page
because I felt it looked more professional by using the same
font for every page. I also put the font in the same corner as
on my other pages for the same reason of it looking neater
and more professional.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I used an image of David Beckham for my sport page because he is
extremely well known and well liked by both genders. He is
fashionable and attractive and will catch both genders eye. His
tattoos make him stand out to young people because that is what
most people like and find ‘attractive’ and aspire to have when
they’re older. He is a sports icon and I thought he would attract
readers. I have chosen to do my half page advert on my sport page
so I made the image smaller.
I wrote one article about Football, one article about Tennis and
another about David Beckham's feature in Sport Relief. I felt it was
relevant to write about David Beckham as I used an image of him.
I lowered the opacity of my text box to make it more effective and
to make the image behind more visible too. I then put a subtitle
under the title to entice the readers of what the article will include. I
put the letters in white because it stood out the most without
clashing with the blue. I chose to use the colour blue for my box
because blue is liked by most 14-16 year old males and sport is
mainly liked by males too. I didn’t line this caption up fully with the
width of my title because it looks more interesting.
The nature of 14-16 year olds reflects this unfinished aesthetic. If it
was precise and neatly lined up it would no longer suit my target
customer.
Phoebe Joseph Unit 5 Task 6
I put an image of Serena Williams in the bottom corner next to my article not only
because I wrote the last paragraph of my article about her, but because images
will make my page more appealing to my audience - especially as their 14-16
year olds. As the page is quite masculine I thought it was important to put a female
or something feminine included attracting my female part of my target audience
and not just males.
I put a caption underneath to make it more interesting and to summarise the
picture because if my readers haven't read the article they won't understand, but it
will also entice them into reading the article because the caption is related with
the article itself.
I put the blue box behind the text because I did that on my subtitle as well and
thought it would look more professional by keeping the same colour scheme and
opacity percentage. I made the text white for that same reason, and because it
was the only colour that stood out the most, was clear to read and at the same
time didn't clash with any of the other colours, mainly the blue boxes.
I also lined up the caption box with the bottom of my article box to make it look
neat and tidy and therefore professional.
