There are three kinds of people…..
•Those who make things happen…
•Those who watch things happen
•And those who wonder what happened

Life is a Matter of Choices
•Or We can be a Victor…
08/05/11
What is a Victim?
• Values threatened• Always blames something or someone else• Sense of powerlessness• Withdraws or becomes passive• Needs lots of attention• Absolves self of responsibility• Justifies inaction• Snipes from a distance• Relinquishes control and influence over situation• Becomes resentful and frustrated• Trades personal power for sympathy• Has more stress and negativity as a result of all this
08/05/11
What is a Victor?
• Values are intact• Takes responsibility for outcome• Has empowerment• Becomes more involved in solutions• Requires little attention• Accepts blame where necessary• Works to improve the situation• Does not become involved in gossip• Retains control and influence over life• Avoids resentment and frustration• Needs no sympathy• Reduces stress and negativity as a result of all this

“Attitude is your paint brush, it colors your world.”

How do we change?
•Ignorance is not bliss….•Ignorance is just ignorance
Which leads to fewer choices in life

How do we change?
•How do we change our attitude?

The Model for Change
• There are Four Stages of Change:
3. Unconscious Incompetence4. Conscious Incompetence5. Conscious Competence6. Unconscious Competence
08/05/11
The Model for Change
• Stage One:Unconscious Incompetence (Pre-
Change)When we don’t know the cost of not doing
the things we don’t know we should be doing.
We think we know it all, not open to new ideas.Eventually stops the learning process all together. Both are the kiss of death in our careers.
08/05/11
The Model for Change
• Stage Two:Conscious Incompetence (waking up)When we do know the cost of not doing
what we now know we should have been doing.
Most important step to change; the broadening of our awareness. Once we get to this step we seldom go back to the first one.
Einstein once said, “The more I learn, the more I realize I don’t know.” Don’t dismiss a “new way” of doing things.
08/05/11
The Model for Change
• Stage Three:Conscious Competence (Choosing
change)Where we struggle to master what we now
know we should do. Most awkward of the four stages where we feel the
stiffness and strangeness of trying something new or different.
08/05/11
The Model for Change
• Stage Four:Unconscious Competence
(ownership)When the things we know we should do,
come naturally and become a habit. No longer struggle with a new skill. We own it.Where techniques become a part of us. Just the natural
thing for us to do. But without consistent practice and study we can still
fall back into stage three.
