FIRST IMPRESSIONS
Phone Etiquette
You are your own receptionist
How you answer the call of an unfamiliar number could be the first impression you give to a potential new customer.
Here are some tips to making that first impression professional.
Make the right impression
Smile and focus
Be remembered
Stay positive Concise
closure
Smile and focusBefore answering, SMILE and FOCUS on the call.
You will come across as warm and interested.
Being distracted will not give the impression that you are busy – just that you aren’t interested in the caller…
Be remembered
In your greeting, make your NAME the last thing you say – it will be the first thing the caller remembers.
“Hello. ABC Entrepreneurs. You’re speaking to Chris.”
Stay positiveKeep your replies POSITIVE, even when saying no.“I can see you on Tuesday” rather than “I can’t see you tomorrow”.“Let me call back with that information” rather than “I can’t talk now”.”I know someone who can do that for you” rather than “I can’t help you with that”.
Concise closureMake the end of the call clear and concise.
After confirming the next steps with your new client, end with a firm “GOOD-BYE”.
Keep “Cheers”, “See you” and “Bye” for more personal calls.
