We are very pleased to welcome the players, supporters and officials of FC Romania and of course our own supporters, any uncommitted visitors and those most important people the referee and assistants, without whom we would have no game. We run out -2-1 winners at Theobalds Lane in September thanks to goals from Abs Seymour and Michael Dixon For further information on our previous fixtures against FC Romania and other fixtures played on this day in previous years please visit page 14. NEWS ABOUT THE BLUES

ACADEMY RESULTS

-1 BARKING FC Saturday 25 January 2020 – BetVictor Isthmian League South Central – Report by Terry Gilbert

As to be expected when playing the league leaders there was early pressure from Westfield as

they were quick out of the blocks and on five a dangerous cross flashed across our goal. However, Barking responded well and in the next minute Junior Dadson takes ball off a defender and is through on goal only to be denied by the feet of Westfield’s man of the match Gary Ross and when the subsequent corner is scrambled towards goal Dadson is unable to get a final telling touch. A double setback for the home side on 15 when Max Blackmore is through on goal and

Montel Joseph is able to smother his attempt. However, Blackmore is subsequently subbed and taken to hospital, requiring stitches for a gashed shin. The home side push on and a corner is cleared to the edge of the box but the Westfield volley is straight at Joseph - at the other end

Dadson goes close again but his effort is blocked as is an acrobatic attempt by Sherri Artmeladze. A dangerous corner comes to our penalty but the turn and shot thankfully end up wide of the

Barking goal. Twelve minutes from the interval Barking have their own dangerous corner which Joe Bruce crosses back to the feet of Johnny Ashman but Ross is able to dig out his powerful effort near the post. On 38 Westfield go closer still when sub Tinashe Nkoma cuts in from the right wing, his shot is blocked by Ricky Tarbard and the on target follow up is blocked by Max Bradford. Two minutes from half-time Barking strike the decisive blow: Dumebi GB-Dumaka’s through ball puts Junior Dadson in on goal and he smacks the ball home from outside the box past the advancing Ross for one nil and makes it on a personal level 14 goals for the season. There was still time for

one last chance from the home team when two minutes into time added on Youssef Bamba sneaks in on goal, although Joseph saves the shot the ball is creeping in but Tarbard clears the danger.

In the opening ten minutes of the second period Westfield enjoy a lot of possession but fail to test Joseph in the Barking goal. On the hour he is called into action to save with his feet from a home striker and two minutes the dangerous Nkoma sprints down our left wing and his near post cross is prodded wide by stretching attacker. On 67 a swerving free kick is just headed away from a

close proximity to our goal and three minutes Joseph is cautioned and penalised for time wasting after holding on to the ball for too long. The indirect free kick inside the Barking penalty area is somehow scrambled to safety but not without some Westfield shouts for handball. Another free kick on 78: this time just outside of the area conceded for a foul by Jack Hayes hits the post, Joseph saves but the rebound is bundled home but thankfully the flag was up for offside. Two

minutes later Barking are denied a goal when Dee Dumaka passes across the goal to sub Giovanni Palmer who sneaks the ball home from close range but it is ruled out by the assistant’s flag. With

nine minutes remaining Nkoma again flashes a dangerous shot across our goal and with just minutes remaining a Westfield shot hits the woodwork: this time the crossbar and the rebound falls to a home player, but Sam Owusu puts his body on the line to block the shot and preserve

our clean sheet. There were six minutes of added time but as with the previous 90 the Blues stood firm and even home keeper Ross had a trip into the visiting half but it was to no avail and we will probably not have a harder fought three points all season and it was our first away win of 2020

and the new decade.

BARKING FC 1-2 UXBRIDGE Tuesday 21 January 2020 – BetVictor Isthmain League South Central – Report by Terry Gilbert

After looking set for a point Barking suffered injury time agony and a setback for the second game running: on Saturday a dramatic goal line clearance stopped a winning goal and tonight a 92nd

minute strike direct from a corner by Mahlondo Martin denied us a point and inflict our first league defeat since early December.

As in common to our previous match the first twenty minutes or so belonged to Barking with nothing hitting the back of the net to enforce the ascendancy they enjoyed. After three minutes Giovanni Palmer was set away down our left-hand side and his low cross was safely gathered in by Uxbridge keeper Paul McCarthy and two minutes later Johnny Ashman made progress down

the right and his cross found Ricky Tarbard but his diving header does not unduly trouble McCarthy. Just after the quarter hour a Michael Dixon cross finds Sherri Artmeladze who shoots and with McCarthy in no man's land a defender clears the danger, on 19 the roles are reversed with Artmeladze finding Dixon whose effort fizzes past the post. On 20 Mahlondo Martin who we

will hear more of later produces a shoot that only just clears the bar and from thereon was a danger to our goal until the end of the game. Ashman goes down the right again on 34 and again

he finds Tarbard but his shot like his header lacks power and is comfortably dealt with. Three minutes before the interval a dangerous Uxbridge cross flies across our goal but thankfully no

opposing player can take advantage and on the stroke of half time a Barking corner is flicked on by Jack Hayes to fellow central defender Joe Bruce who stretching cannot make any telling

contact and McCarthy collected the ball.

At the start of the second half Uxbridge were on the front foot and Martin was causing problems and after two minutes the Reds were in front when Montel Joseph saved a shot with his feet only for Joe Bruce to inadvertently turn the ball into the net for an own goal. Half time substitute Jack

Beadle was through on goal on 51 and looking set to double Uxbridge’s lead but the feet of Joseph denied him in what turned out to be a crucial save as in the next minute Barking were level. A ball forward by Tarbard finds Michael Dixon who strands McCarthy with a clever lob which finds the corner of the net. The game settles into a tit for tat period with neither keeper being seriously

challenged and no real chances being created. As the clock began to tick down there was a spell of “pinball football” with the ball flying around the Barking area but thankfully Montel Joseph was

on hand to settle our nerves. With five minutes remaining a good pass by Abs Seymour gives Dixon another opportunity to turn provider but Artmeladze can only fire over when well placed. Mark Bitmead for Uxbridge can only do the same when seemly in a good position. In the final minute Beadle fires wide as the Reds seem to be enjoying quite a bit more possession in the

closing stages and in added time only the combined efforts of Joseph and Tarbard stop a dangerous opposition attack at the cost of a corner and a fairly costly corner it turned out to be as

Martin’s flag kick eluded friend and foe alike to win the game for Uxbridge and leave Barking unable to produce any sort of reply in the short time remaining.

LAST TIME: -2 BARKING FC Saturday 21 September 2019 – BetVictor Isthmian League South Central – Report by Terry Gilbert

After seven winless league games Barking got off the mark with a hard fought win at Theobalds Lane and registered their first league win of

the season and the first since April 20th when we beat Basildon United also away by a single goal. After Tuesday’s odd goal in seven defeat to Waltham Abbey Justin Gardner made one change with Nana Boakye-Yiadom replacing Dumebi GB-Dumaka and we included striker Michael

Dixon signed from Corinthian-Casuals who came off the bench to net the winner with twenty minutes left.

It could have been a different early on when a Johnny Ashman cross was handled in the box and Ashman stepped up to take the spot kick but it was saved by home keeper Adrian Darabant and

the chance to take the lead was gone. The visitors were made to rue the miss on 16 when a corner wasn’t dealt with properly and it was played back to Dumitru Gritcan who stooped to head in to the net and put FCR in front. Picking the ball out of the net was as much as Montel Joseph had to do all

game as Darabant was the busier of the two keepers as the game progressed. We were only behind for eight minutes when Abs Seymour was fouled close to the edge of the penalty area, the Barking skipper got up and planted a low powerful free kick into the net via the hands of Darabant. A cleared corner was played back to Sam Owusu and Seymour met his cross but could only direct the ball into the keeper’s hands. Sheri Artmeladze warmed the hands of Darabant with a shot that was turned over the bar as the visitors looked increasingly dangerous from corners and FCR had

the last effort of the half but the shot was well wide of Joseph’s goal.

As with Tuesday night’s game not a bad first half at all - however, would there be any nasty surprises for us in the second half.

Barking started after the break on the front foot: Jack Roult played in Nana Boakye-Yiadom but Darabant was out to him quickly and smothered the effort, then a Seymour free kick freed the

striker again only for him to find the side netting as his efforts didn’t reap the rewards they deserved. FCR had one effort after a Ricky Tarbard slip but Daniel Flemming snuffed it out

efficiently and they followed it up with a shot that Joseph comfortably saved. On 57 Michael Dixon replacing Roult and he immediately set Boakye-Yiadom up with a smart one-two but again the legs

of Darabant denied him a goal. On 70 minutes the winner arrived and not unexpectedly it came from a corner, Ashman’s flag kick found the head of Michael Dixon who found the net through a

crowd of players.

We came close to a third goal when a defensive clearance cannoned off Ricky Tarbard and hit the foot of the post and as our luck has been this season bounced away to safety. The woodwork

saved FCR again when from a Jordan Peart throw Boakye-Yiadom unleashed a thunderbolt that crashed against the upright and yet again the rebound was nowhere near a blue shirt. A shot from distance by Tarbard was tipped over the bar by Darabant as we applied the pressure looking for

the third goal to make sure of the points. Good work by Peart winning the ball and charging forward set Boakye-Yiadom through again but off balance his shot just missed the goal as a

frustrating day for him continued. In the end Barking managed the game to the conclusion and claimed the three welcome points.
